Sitting alongside our list of upcoming DVD and Blu-ray releases (that you can find here), we’re also keeping a calendar for those who support the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc format. As we learn of new UK releases, we’ll add them to this list.

Francis Ford Coppola is responsible for half a century of onscreen leading men. The greatest Hollywood actors of the later 20th century, from Al Pacino to Robert De Niro to Robert Duvall? They also got their big break in one of the first two "Godfather" films. That's not to say these actors wouldn't have been stars without Coppola's movies (none of them are exactly one-hit wonders), but the New Hollywood truly put several artists in the right place at the right time to produce classic films.

In 1983, Coppola did it again with "The Outsiders," adapting S.E. Hinton's 1967 coming-of-age novel about several low-class teenage "Greasers" in 1960s Oklahoma. Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze are forever entrenched in the annals of romance cinema with their roles in Dirty Dancing. However, they would actually couple up a few years earlier in the action thriller Red Dawn in 1984. Grey would recently appear on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast and recount a time they were filming a scene where their characters were supposed to snuggle up in a sleeping bag and become intimate with each other. The chemistry between the two stars in their later provocative hit would resonate with audiences, but their first attempt to make love on screen became so anxiety-induced that Grey said Swayze had started the scene fairly inebriated.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Grey confessed, “We were in this, you know, sleeping bag and he, I guess, was nervous or whatever. And he came into the sleeping bag drunk, and he didn’t know his lines.

After initially starring alongside Patrick Swayze in the 1984 war drama Red Dawn, Jennifer Grey admitted to having no desire to work with Swayze ever again. Having the worst time of her life enduring his pranks and work ethic while sharing the screen for the John Milius’ movie, Grey recalled being hesitant to star alongside him in Dirty Dancing.

One iconic Marvel Comics villain has been wasted on-screen for almost three decades, so I would love to see Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men reboot finally do him justice in the MCU. 20th Century Fox made many mistakes with its X-Men franchise, which included misusing some of my favorite mutant characters, not introducing many others, and butchering some of Marvel Comics' best mutant-centric storylines. I have a huge amount of hope for the future of the X-Men, however, as I have faith that Marvel Studios will handle the McU's mutants with much more care.

"Star Trek: Lower Decks" season 5, episode 3, "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel," sees Lieutenant Boimler (Jack Quaid) assigned to a covert, potentially dangerous spy mission. He is to join Commander Ransom (Jerry O'Connell) and Lieutenant Commander Billups (Paul Scheer) on a mission to the Cosmic Duchess, an ultra-swanky, high-end resort-like cruise ship, floating gently through deep space. His assignment is to penetrate deep into the hotel to retrieve Admiral Milius (Toby Huss), a Starfleet officer who has gone Awol thanks to "a touch of vacation madness." The writers of "Lower Decks" missed an opportunity in not saying that he had been infected with Paradise Syndrome.

The Cosmic Duchess, however, is such a massive ship that it incorporates artificial recreations of every possible vacation-ready biome. There's a tropical beach biome, a skiing resort biome, and a water park biome.

Luca Guadagnino and Lionsgate announced that the “Call Me by Your Name” and “Queer” director is in final discussions to film a new version of Bret Eason Ellis’ dark horror novel “American Psycho,” nearly 25 years after the same company released Mary Harron’s satirical adaptation. The creation of a monster In July, 1984 the Motion Picture Association of America created a beast which would destroy the quality of films for decades to come. The beast was a new rating, called PG-13. But before I get into my hatred for this rating, let me explain some history behind the rating as a whole. Before July, 1984, the MPAA had been having problems with their overly broad ratings scale and determining which movies should be rated PG or R. This is illustrated by Stephen Spielberg’s horrifying blockbuster ‘Jaws’ receiving a PG rating when there are quite a few brutal death scenes and brutal shots throughout the film. The MPAA needed some kind of middle ground between what was rated R and what was rated PG. They were receiving too much criticism from parents and others all over the globe who were unhappy with the movie that was shown...

The lineup of new movies and TV shows on Max in October 2024 is just as packed with known Warner Bros. and HBO classics as ever, alongside a steady stream of slick recent releases. After launching in 2020 as HBO Max, the primary streaming home for Warner Bros. titles, Max changed its name and rebranded in 2023. While the name change also comes with some changes to subscription tiers, Max will still release new hit titles every month, which in October includes yet more highly acclaimed movies and the most anticipated TV shows.

Max’s October 2024 lineup includes a new adaptation of Stephen King’s bestselling vampire novel Salem’s Lot and the premiere of the eight-episode comedy series The Franchise starring Himesh Patel. Jordin Sparks hosts and Johnny Weir and Terrell Ferguson judge the new competition series Roller Jam debuting on October 10th. And Dylan O’Brien stars in Caddo Lake, a mystery thriller premiering on October 10th.

The streamer’s October calendar of new series and films also includes the documentaries I Am Not A Monster: The Lois Riess Murders, Louder: The Soundtrack of Change, and Breath of Fire. Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap starring Josh Hartnett makes its streaming premiere on October 25th, and Maxxxine with Mia Goth debuts on October 18th.

The Friends TV show was perhaps NBC’s one of the most successful series, which went on from 1994 to 2004. The sitcom starred Hollywood’s finest actors as the main cast, but the guest roles also included some big names from the industry. Surprisingly a renowned movie star once freaked out while filming a guest appearance on the show.

Before he landed his role of Charlie Harper on the CBS sitcom, Two and a Half Men in 2003, the actor had a successful career in the movies. Charlie Sheen was well-versed in acting, but in front of a rolling camera, not a live audience. The difference was so huge that when he appeared for a cameo on Friends, he initially could not perform.

Patrick Swayze was one of a kind. He’s the only actor I can think of who was as comfortable cutting a rug on the dance floor as demolishing a room full of bad guys with his fists of fury. When he passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2009, we lost an icon who was never really recognized as the legend he is in his time. John Millius’s cold war “what if” thriller goes down in the history books as the first-ever PG-13 movie. It was also Patrick Swayze’s first major leading role, with him best known up to this point for a supporting role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders.

Charlie Sheen rose to prominence in the 80s with successful films such as Platoon, Red Dawn, Wall Street, and Eight Men Out. The actor proved that he had the dramatic chops that elevated the material he was given. By the time the 2000s rolled in, he started appearing in comedic roles, replacing Michael J. Douglass Fake, founder of leading movie soundtrack label Intrada and producer of more than 700 albums of movie and TV music, died Saturday at a Richmond, Calif., hospital after a long illness. He was 72.

Fake’s many credits include the first complete restoration of Leonard Bernstein’s “On the Waterfront,” a lavish 5-cd release of Elmer Bernstein’s “The Ten Commandments” and the debut of several Henry Mancini scores including “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” previously only available in abridged pop recordings.

Among the label’s best sellers were expansions of previously incomplete recordings of such classics as John Williams’ “Jaws,” Alan Silvestri’s “Back to the Future” and Jerry Goldsmith’s “Alien.” Fake also supervised the re-recording of a dozen albums of classic film music including Bernard Herrmann’s “The Man Who Knew Too Much” and Miklos Rozsa’s “Ivanhoe,” “Spellbound” and “Julius Caesar.”

LG Channels, the free, ad-supported streaming television (Fast) platform built in to the electronic maker’s smart TVs, has launched a new content stream that curates a selection of shows and movies that are exclusive to the service.

The portal, called LG Channels Showcase, will feature a rotating catalog of titles from Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Shout! Studios, Lionsgate and others, the company said in a statement this week.

In July, LG Channels Showcase will offer free access to blockbuster movies like “Tomb Raider,” “Hercules” (Paramount Pictures version), “Red Dawn,” “Big Eyes,” “Thelma & Louise,” “The Terminator,” “Pompeii,” “Mystic Pizza,” “The Lucky Ones,” “Windtalkers,” “But I’m A Cheerleader” and “Sophie’s Choice.”

Exclusive: C. Thomas Howell (Seal Team) and Michelle Hurd (Star Trek: Picard) have signed on to star alongside Trevor Donovan and Ashley Elaine in Where the Wind Blows, a romantic Western based on the USA Today bestselling novel by Caroline Fyffe.

Shooting this summer in Montana, the film follows Chase (Donovan), a rugged cowboy and solitary drifter who closed off his heart long ago — until the day he impulsively does a kindness for a beautiful young woman (Elaine), and everything changes in three days.

If you’re going to set your movie somewhere in the intersection of two worlds fraught with danger — say, bull-riding competitions and hardcore crime — it’s always a good idea to cast actors who look and sound comfortable, and credible, in both places. There are quite a few things to admire in “Ride,” director Jake Allyn’s suspenseful drama about a rodeo family driven to extremes while trying to pay their young daughter’s medical bills. But the first thing that sticks out is how much verisimilitude lead players C. Thomas Howell and Forrie J. Smith bring to the table. If you look at their backgrounds, that shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Since the mid-80s, the PG rating has been mostly exclusive to films aimed at kids, and even though there have been releases that pushed its boundaries, they’re few and far between. However, for a long time, this wasn’t the case, as before the PG-13 rating was introduced, films were either rated PG or R, with the latter only being reserved for extreme cases, such as Evil Dead.

This flawed system would finally undergo a massive change, thanks to Steven Spielberg and his blockbusters, especially Gremlins, which too earned a PG rating upon its release. But had the creators stuck to the initial draft of Chris Columbus, the horror would’ve definitely been given the same treatment as that of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead.
