Warning: Spoilers ahead for Mayfair Witches season 2, episode 3!Mayfair Witches showrunner Esta Spalding has explained season 2's Interview with the Vampire cameo, and what it means for the wider Immortal Universe. At the beginning of Mayfair Witches season 2, episode 3, Lasher (Jack Huston) is approached by Felix (Gabriel Freilich), a vampire drawn to him because of his inhuman nature. The pair have a conversation where the vampire encourages the reborn entity, since he's a new creature in this world. Felix is also an unnamed vampire, credited as "pale young vamp," seen helping Lestat (Sam Reid) in Interview with the Vampire's season 2 finale.
Speaking with TV Insider, Spalding explained how the idea of a vampire in New Orleans came about, influenced by wanting to tie Mayfair Witches more concretely into the Immortal Universe. The showrunner worked with Interview with the Vampire showrunner Rolin Jones, naming the young vampire while giving him a purpose in the show.

This article contains spoilers for many major fantasy TV shows! For every unforgettable moment in a fantasy TV show, there are just as many controversial moments that push viewers to their breaking point. Even the most popular fantastical TV series in history have included scenes that were so polarizing that audiences stop watching the show altogether. Typically, these plot points revolve around the introduction or exit of characters, as this can dramatically alter the series' dynamic and be devastating to witness. TV deaths often spark outrage when viewers feel that the character didn't deserve to be killed off and still had more to contribute.
There are many fantasy TV scenes that make no sense, but this is more excusable, as the complex magic systems and world-building in speculative fiction shows can become confusing. However, when a series makes a concrete and avoidable choice that alienates audience members, it's much more difficult to accept this.

The second season of Mayfair Witches, based on Anne Rice's horror novels of the same name, is off and running on AMC. The network has a plan to build out an entire shared universe of spooky shows based on the work of Anne Rice. The excellent second season of Interview With The Vampire aired last year, and later this year we're getting The Talamasca, named for the supernatural in charge of keeping tabs on vampires, witches, and so forth.
Agents from The Talamasca have already shown up in both Interview and Mayfair Witches, laying the foundation. Tongayi Chirisa, who plays Talamasca agent Ciprien Grieve on Mayfair, teased more crossover action in the future. "Without saying too much, a lot of things go down in the season finale that definitely open Cip's world up in a way that he was not expecting," he told ScreenRant. Fantasy is a versatile genre since the creation of new worlds and magic systems allows writers and creators to establish new rules and logic that suit the storyline. However, this doesn't mean that fantasy TV shows are immune from adding plot points that make no sense and don't help further the overall narrative. Many of these choices have to do with the character's choices being inconsistent or the series breaking its own rules about how the fantastical elements work. Since speculative fiction fans are willing to suspend their disbelief, these shows sometimes push the boundaries of logic too far.
There are plenty of fantasy movie scenes that make no sense, and TV series are just as susceptible to these mistakes. Often, these confusing moments happen because there are so many contradicting storylines or there's an external element that's out of the writers' control. To compensate for actors suddenly leaving or...

There was a lot of good TV in 2024. It was an unusual year overall, the product of a post-strike Hollywood in the midst of a feverish industry-wide evolution from streaming to the cineplex, but plenty of great series still flowed throughout the year. Horror TV was no different: a slowdown in output didn’t mean a slowdown in quality, and there were a handful of outstanding horror shows in 2024 — a couple of them easily among the best shows of the year overall, and sadly, a couple of them also bowing out for their final seasons.
Here are our picks for the best of the best horror TV shows of 2024.
“Interview With the Vampire” Season 2 (AMC) ‘Interview With the Vampire’

Through strike delays and industry contraction, television still managed to provide audiences with plenty of worthy shows to delight on across broadcast, cable and streaming.
Netflix’s ambitious “3 Body Problem” turned physics theories into a sci-fi thriller, while Apple TV+’s “Palm Royale” showed us the hilarious — and deadly — inner workings of Palm Beach society. HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country” brought the celebrated anthology series into the endless darkness of the Alaskan winter, as Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” took over the cultural zeitgeist with its autobiographical stalker story and network shows like “9-1-1” and “Abbott Elementary” finally made their anticipated returns following the resolution of the Hollywood double strikes. New broadcast shows also made their mark after long gestating development, including CBS’ “Matlock” starring Kathy Bates, while streaming brought some new and surprising returning hits in Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This” and Peacock’s “Love Island USA” Season...

It’s always exciting when a TV show takes a massive risk that really pays off, but it can be insanely frustrating when these surprising writing decisions fall flat on their face. While huge twists, impulsive character decisions, or unusual storytelling choices can keep things interesting, they also have the potential to alienate audiences and lead to storylines that the writers opt to quietly discard rather than continue telling an unpopular plot. This has been a problem across comedy, drama, and even fantasy series that have tried something new with their storyline, only to have viewers flat-out reject the risk.
Many of the best TV shows of all time have taken massive risks, only for them to not work out and have to backtrack on their storylines. This has seen previously deceased characters inexplicably return to life, established backstories being badly rewritten, or even final seasons that ruined the legacy...

The Golden Globes nominations have hit, and there are some surprising and frustrating snubs among them.
Whenever the Golden Globes are announced, the talk is less about who got nominated than who didn’t. The sad truth is that with so many shows competing, there are only so many slots, and the Globes should be commended for recognizing more streaming shows than the Emmys do.
This year had a few nice surprises, like Kate Winslet forThe Regime. A few snubs aren’t too shocking. Palm Royale wasn’t exactly a great show. However, others seem to be the thing Golden Globes voters would go for. They were critically acclaimed, had big buzz, and seemed set for a nomination but didn’t get it. While there are many contenders, these rank as the 10 surprising TV snubs of the 2025 Golden Globes, which may confuse their fans.

Interview with the Vampire is the AMC+ show that took horror fantasy by storm in 2022, but it isn't always true to the books. Run by Rolin Jones, the show is based on Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles. Seasons 1 and 2 adapted book one, Interview with the Vampire. Season 3 will adapt The Vampire Lestat and parts of the next book, The Queen of the Damned. Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid are flawlessly cast as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Lestat de Lioncourt, respectively, and they successfully carry the show through all its deviances from the books.
While Reid and Anderson's performances are astonishing, it is Jones' contemporary and humane approach that makes the show what it is. It is not just entertaining, hilarious, and dramatic, but educational and kind, making powerful points about human nature and strength. Interview with the Vampire's characters and plot diverge heavily from the books...

AMC+'s excellent Interview with the Vampire has bloody moments to rival the goriest horror movies. The gothic horror drama was released in 2022 and is in the middle of adapting Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles. This pioneering creator of gothic horror and fantasy novels popularized the vampire as an antihero, stepping away from the vampire as a villain. These complex works contain some of the most impressive character studies in the genre. It is good to see that the show is embracing this while welcoming full-blown horror.

Major television deaths are almost always sad, but they're especially devastating when viewers barely get to spend time with the character in question. While the death of a longtime favorite dramatically impacts the show and its audience, the demise of smaller players can hit just as hard.
This is especially true when they've made a good impression, igniting hopes that they'll take on a more prominent role in the story. In some cases, they're met with an early end instead, leaving viewers to wonder what their character arc could have looked like if they'd lasted longer than a handful of episodes.
Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou) Game of Thrones (2011-2019)
Game of Thrones' Syrio Forel is the perfect example of a fan-favorite character who makes an impression in just a few episodes. Syrio is introduced in season 1's "Lord Snow," when Ned tasks him with training Arya in the art of swordplay.

The fantasy genre shines on television, as the episodic nature of TV shows allows for plenty of time to focus on world-building and magic systems while still providing character development. However, all the moving parts and expectations surrounding fantasy TV series make it difficult for a show to hit the mark in every aspect of the story. Common issues arise with fantasy TV shows that continue for too long, running out of ideas and growing repetitive before the finale. In a perfect show, there can't be any major problems or too many moments that make viewers quit the series.
Many of the best fantasy TV shows of the 2020s are almost perfect and could prove themselves to be the best of the 21st century before their stories end. More often than not, great fantasy shows are based on books, giving the seasons structure and providing a strong storyline for the script.

In 1994, audiences were treated to Interview With The Vampire, an adaptation of Anne Rice's classic horror novel about melancholic vampires spending eternity in the throes of enuii, homoerotic longing, or both. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, who were movie stars then and now, played the roles of Lestat and Louis, giving meaty performances that endure in the public imagination to this day.
Despite Rice writing many more Vampire Chronicles books after Interview, the movie never did get a sequel, despite what fellow movie star George Clooney would have his colleagues believe. Recasts on television shows and movies happen all the time for various reasons, but the explanation behind Bailey Bass' exit from her role as Claudia in Interview with the Vampire season 2 is a bit unclear. The AMC gothic horror television series, created by Rolin Jones, is based on Anne Rice's 1976 book of the same name. Interview with the Vampire season 1 introduced viewers to Louis de Pointe du Lac, a vampire recounting his life story to a journalist in 2022, including his time in New Orleans in the 1910s and his encounter with Claudia, a teenage vampire.
Bass originated the role of Claudia in season 1, and Delainey Hayles took over for the actress in season 2. Aside from Hayles, the cast of Interview with the Vampire season 2 includes Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac, Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt, Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy, Assad Zaman as Armand, and Ben Daniels as Santiago.

Fantasy TV shows can change quickly, and when big plot twists and narrative changes are written into the story, they have a major impact. The magic systems and rules of the realities that these fantastical worlds exist in allow the writers and creators to experiment with story and character dynamics, leading to episodes that change everything for the series. These episodes typically incorporate a tone shift and switch the show's focus to a new set of character dynamics. Altering a series so drastically can either save and prolong its run or be the beginning of the end for the show.
The fantasy TV shows that deserved more seasons rarely get the chance to reinvent themselves and adapt to significant change. However, a long-running series must quickly adjust when actors decide to leave the show or a detailed story arc has reached its end. While it can be daunting to take...

Spoiler Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Interview with the Vampire season 2.
Delainey Hayles is an up-and-coming actress who earned herself an important role in the AMC series Interview with the Vampire. Based on the Interview with the Vampire books by Anne Rice, the show premiered in 2022 as the third adaptation of the series after the 1994 movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt and the 2002 film, Queen of the Damned, starring Stuart Townsend and Aaliyah. Unlike those first two films, Interview with the Vampire the series more readily embraces the queer ideas present in Rice's original texts and makes them a core part of the show.
Arriving in the cast in season 2 is Delainey Hayles, a British actress born on March 10, 1999. Hayles replaced Bailey Bass as Claudia in season 2 after a scheduling issue (via Variety). This is Hayles' first major acting role, coming after some small but notable...

Alice Lowe’s second film as director is time travel comedy Timestalker, and the trailer for it has now landed.
Alice Lowe is not only a brilliant actor, but she’s also been behind the camera on some of the most esoteric, original British films of the last few years. From co-writing the screenplay of Sightseers with co-star Steve Oram, which was directed by Ben Wheatley and released in 2012, to her terrific 2016 directorial debut Prevenge, which she also wrote and starred as a pregnant woman who believes her unborn baby is telling her to murder all the men involved in her husband’s death.
Her next film is even more ambitious. Timestalker is a science fiction comedy romance, with a dash of time travel thrown into the mix. The synopsis reads as follows:

Nicholas Denton (Dangerous Liaisons) has been cast in a starring role in AMC’s Anne Rice’s The Talamasca (the working title). According to the announcement, Denton will star as Guy Anatole in the six-episode season set to begin filming in Manchester, England in October 2024.
AMC offered this description of the series and Denton’s character: “[Guy] is brilliant, handsome and sharp on the surface, but he’s always known his mind works a little differently. On the cusp of graduating law school, he is approached by a representative of the Talamasca, a secretive agency that monitors and protects us from the supernatural world. When Guy learns that the Talamasca has been tracking him since his childhood, he falls headlong into a world of secret agents and immortal beings who, up to now, have maintained a fragile balance with the mortal world.

AMC's Immortal Universe is expanding with new shows, with two already airing Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches and another Anne Rice spinoff in development: The Talamasca. Interview with the Vampire is the second time adapting one of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles book series after the classic 1994 movie adaptation starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. The TV series sees Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt and Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac in the roles Cruise and Pitt originated. In it, Louis tells investigative journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) the story of his life, both before and after becoming a vampire.
The 2002 Interview sequel Queen of the Damned replaced Tom Cruise with Stuart Townsend and removed the character of Louis entirely. It got overwhelmingly negative reviews and flopped at the box office.
Mayfair Witches, meanwhile, follows neurosurgeon Dr. Rowan Fielding who, after a series of troubling events at work,...

Today, several AMC TV shows appeared on Netflix including:
Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire season 1Anne Rice’s Mayfair WitchesA Discovery of WitchesDark WindsFear the Walking DeadGangs of LondonInto the BadlandsKevin can F*** HimselfMonsieur SpadePreacherThat Dirty Black BagThe Terror season 1The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
Previously, all of these shows were available to stream at AMC+, but let's be real: Netflix is the biggest name in streaming by a mile, and if you want people to watch your shows, it pays to be available there. That's good news for several of these series — I've been meaning to check out Dark Winds for a while and might do it now that it's easily accessible — but I'm especially happy for Interview With The Vampire, the network's sumptuous adaptation of Anne Rice's 1976 horror classic.
A lot of people have heard of the book or the 1994 movie with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.

It's a new week and a ton of AMC shows are coming to Netflix! It's like they took all their most popular shows and threw them at Netflix. But with the chance to rewatch some of my faves, I am definitely not complaining. There are also a few non-amc movies and shows coming to the streaming service.
First up this week is A Discovery of Witches seasons 1-3! The series based on the popular book series by Deborah Harkness first hit TV screens in 2019 and became just as popular as the books. It hits Netflix on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024.
The series stars Teresa Palmer, Matthew Goode, Alex Kingston, Adelle Leonce, and Edward Blumel. It follows historian and witch Diana Bishop as she comes into her powers solving the mysteries of the Ashmole 782. But she also happens to fall in love with the witch's worst enemy: a vampire.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Interview With the Vampire Season 2.] Any “Best Episodes of 2024” list will be incomplete without Interview With the Vampire‘s Season 2 Episode 5. “Don’t Be Afraid, Just Start the Tape” is a standout among the AMC drama’s widely acclaimed second season. It’s the first and only episode in the entire series not to involve a New Orleans or Europe flashback, instead focusing on the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac’s (Jacob Anderson) interviews with journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian and Luke Brandon Field) in 1973 San Francisco and 2022 Dubai. Assad Zaman‘s Armand was there too, and he’s the only one of those three who remembers all the details of that fateful week in California — a problem that the subsequent episode addresses head-on. Before the Season 2 premiere, I asked Zaman about his favorite part of “Don’t Be Afraid, Just Start the Tape,” ...

To date, there's no such thing as a bad episode of "Interview with the Vampire." Rolin Jones' AMC adaptation of Anne Rice's famed vampire novels has so far pulled off an astonishing balancing act for 15 episodes and counting. The show is a beautiful collision of modes of drama that shouldn't work on TV, including but not limited to rich, ornate dialogue, dark humor and camp, and painfully poignant tragedy. It's decadent, gothic, and melodramatic, yet it constantly presents deep-seated, timeless truths about family, identity, and the search for self.
The show also works with human memory in a way few others have before it, building its first two seasons out of a house of the flimsiest of paper cards –- the biased, editorialized, corrupted memories of Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), his dead daughter Claudia (Bailey Bass and Delainey Hayles), and his enigmatic boyfriend Armand (Assad Zaman...

Netflix has a lot of offerings this month but a huge one is that the streamer will be taking on a score of programs from AMC all releasing on Aug. 19. So which are the best to check out?
For years, AMC has been known for its terrific original series, from Mad Men to Breaking Bad, many of which are Emmy-winning hits. The network runs a nice gamut from drama to more action-oriented and thanks to a new deal with Netflix, nearly a dozen of their shows are hitting the streamer. Some may be good watches if a bit uneven (Mayfair Witches) and others not quite as well known.
However, there are some great shows to check out, and these half-dozen series are all worth checking out to show how this AMC roster on Netflix enhances the streamer.

The second season of Interview With The Vampire may well have been the best TV I've seen all year. Dark, funny and dripping in bloody atmosphere, it was an undead romance for the ages, buttressed by great performances from the likes of Jacob Anderson, Delainey Hayles and Sam Reid as the vampire Lestat, the most famous figure from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles books.
If the second season had a weakness, it's that it didn't have enough of Lestat in it, although he made up for lost time by stealing the show when he returned near the end. And he will dominate the third season, which will adapt Rice's 1985 book The Vampire Lestat. AMC surprised fans at San Diego Comic-Con the other weekend with an early teaser showing Lestat, who becomes a world-famous rock star who sings about the deepest of vampire secrets, toying with interviewers. We even got an original song!
