Some of the best crime TV shows were canceled early, leaving fans frustrated with the lack of character and story development. Titles like Prodigal Son, The Enemy Within, Limitless, Jett, and Magic City had potential but fell short due to network issues or audience ratings. Critically acclaimed performances, dynamic relationships, and compelling storylines were cut short, leaving viewers disappointed with the abrupt endings.
Unfortunately, multiple crime TV shows were canceled far too soon. Some of the best TV shows of all time were included in the crime genre and were remembered for engaging viewers in stories about the dark underbelly of the criminal world, the law enforcement officers who strove to bring them to justice, and the loved ones who were dragged into the chaos. The best crime procedural TV shows typically ran for several seasons, but some titles werent lucky enough to achieve the same stretch. Despite being cut short,...

Secret Agents. We love them. What’s not to love? They go to exotic locations, seduce beautiful women, use insanely cool gadgets, drive awesome cars, and just kick ass. I don’t know about you, but I wanted to be one when I was growing up. But the thought of doing a push-up at the time was as hard as skydiving. So I grew up, and the closest I ever got was asking for a vodka martini shaken, not stirred, at a bar once….which I immediately spit out on the floor. So yeah, I was never going to be James Bond.
But then I found a show that made me believe that in another world, a schlubby loser like me could be a superspy. What was the show? Well, it was Chuck, of course.

Zachary Levi opens up about his long-awaited desire to develop a feature-length Chuck movie. The NBC comedy series ran for five seasons from 2007 to 2012, chronicling the misadventures of Levi's electronics store employee. His life is turned upside down when a complex program is embedded into his mind, making him an unlikely asset for the CIA and Nsa. Chuck was not only critically acclaimed but received impressive fanbase support that allowed the series to continue despite facing cancellation multiple times.
While Levi is currently promoting Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the star opened up to SiriusXM about the current status of a potential Chuck movie, a production that he has long campaigned for. After initiating the Chuck reboot possibility last year, Levi is optimistic that the series could return, with creators Chris Fedak, Josh Schwartz, and his fellow castmates being open to returning. Zachary Levi isn’t giving up on the movie followup to his NBC series Chuck, and he says creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak are on board.
Levi starred in the spy dramedy from 2007 to 2012 as Chuck Bartowski, an average guy who was dragged into the world of the the CIA and Nsa to take on dangerous criminals and other threats. He’s been campaigning for an expansion of the Chuck universe since the show ended, but he recently said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show that it might actually be coming to fruition.
“I’ve been trying to make a Chuck movie since before we even finished the show. I saw the writing on the wall, I saw a lot of the streaming stuff starting to pop up. I saw a lot of like, well, people are doing, you know, like, you know, Zach Braff, I think was crowdfunding.

Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Eiza González, Garret Dillahunt, Jackson White, Moses Ingram, Keir O’Donnell | Written by Chris Fedak | Directed by Michael Bay
Remaking a foreign language movie might seem like an unusual step for master-of-mayhem Michael Bay, but that’s what’s happened with his latest movie Ambulance, which is based on the 2005 Danish thriller Ambulancen. In fairness, Bay’s idea of a remake is basically just to make it an hour longer and add explosions, so it’s pretty much business as usual, comprising 136 minutes of action and chaos.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays former soldier Will Sharp, who’s struggling to pay the mounting medical bills for his wife’s (Moses Ingram) upcoming operation. In desperation, he turns to his ne’er-do-well brother, Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal), who somewhat implausibly recruits him for a 32 million heist that’s happening in about thirty minutes’ time.
Will reluctantly agrees, but the heist goes sideways,...

Rating: 3.0/5.0
How will Michael Bay use an ambulance, you may ask? Turns out it is hi-jacked, by a couple of bank robbers (Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateeen), whose multi million dollar heist gets busted by the LAPD. This begins a frantic car chase all through LA-la land, with the ambulance also containing Paramedic Cam (Eiza Gonzalez) and a cop who’s been shot (Jackson White).

Human society can be seen as one big extension of the internal systems keeping every one of us alive: an intricate, interwoven series of organisms with specialized functions that need to work in concert with each other to serve the whole. The big difference is that white blood cells and proteins and the like don't have individual sentience, whereas every living person keeping a place running — like, say, a major city — is faced with the problem of choice each day.

So, from this film’s title, you’re thinking it’s a “fly on the wall” documentary with the filmmakers doing a “ride-along” with EMTs on a typical day, full of drama and danger, right? Or maybe it’s a docudrama following a young emergency worker going from their training and studies right up to the first week of their hospital assignment (with maybe a romance with another “lifesaver”). Well, I can give a big “nope” to both presumptions. Sure, the title vehicle is the main focus of this film, but it’s the kind of loud, noisy, frenetic action thriller that we usually get sometime in the Summer. And was a multiplex staple of the 90s. Well just coincidentally this flick is directed by the “unofficial kingpin” of those blockbusters from that era. So clear the aisle in the theatre and make room for a very fast Ambulance.
But...

The new action film (at least it is supposed to be) from Michael Bay, simply titled Ambulance, unfortunately turns out to be a long, boring slog of a ride instead of the edge-of-your-seat thriller it was more than likely intended to be.
Times have gotten hard for veteran Will Sharp (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). He cannot cover his mounting family medical bills and looks to the one person he believes can help him out – his adoptive brother Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal). Danny’s help comes in the form of the largest bank robbery in the history of Los Angeles, which leaves Will wondering whether he’s made the correct decision.
During the heist, things go from bad to worse as Danny and Will must flee the scene of the crime in an ambulance transporting a cop wounded during the robbery. Now, with the officer and an Emt named Cam (Eiza González) in tow,...

During the heist, things go from bad to worse as Danny and Will must flee the scene of the crime in an ambulance transporting a cop wounded during the robbery. Now, with the officer and an Emt named Cam (Eiza González) in tow,...

Yes, it’s true (and we still can’t believe we wrote that headline above): Ambulance, the new action thriller from none other than director Michael Bay, might just be the divisive filmmaker’s best effort in this century.
After spending a decade in the cinematic hell that was his Transformers series, where he churned out one unwatchable, incoherent, headache-inducing pile of crap after another—with a couple of breaks for the modestly better Pain and Gain in 2013, the politically dumbed-down 13 Hours in 2016, and the tediously awful 6 Underground in 2019—Bay has produced his most consistently enjoyable movie since 1996’s The Rock.
Now, make no mistake, this is still a Michael Bay movie; a lot of the action is still edited as if he threw the footage in a blender and put it on high, and the pile-up of plot turns and over-the-top acting in the third act...

The Marvel machine may be the most fortuitous development for Michael Bay. Though the director hasn’t dabbled in the world of superheroes—despite a fondness for a cinematic universe of the robot variety—the homogenized, green-screen wasteland of today’s box-office behemoths has indirectly led to a reappreciation of the director’s schoolboy giddiness for practical effects and continually upping the ante for where he can place a camera. As bombastic and occasionally mind-numbing as his approach may be, there’s distinct poetry to the momentum of a maximalist vision where previs filmmaking vis-a-vis a committee is not only missing from his vocabulary, but a kinetic approach makes such a proposition nigh impossible. With Ambulance, a streamlined spectacle that borrows liberally from Heat, Speed, and John Q, Bay seems to be at his most comfortable and invigorated in years, milking the ridiculously heightened premise for all its worth while...

In desperation, he turns to his ne’er-do-well brother, Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal), who somewhat implausibly recruits him for a $32 million heist that’s happening in about thirty minutes’ time.
Will reluctantly agrees, but the heist goes sideways,...

At a time of strife, division, anxiety, and war, you might think the moment would be right for a nostalgic escape to the retro-excessive trash-movie mystique of the ’90s — an age when action thrillers were big, loud, decadent, “rebellious” and, as often as not, ripped off from “Die Hard.” “Ambulance,” however, could make you rethink that impulse. It’s directed by Michael Bay, who over the years has trafficked in a great many varieties of excess: massively scaled kiddie gizmo excess (the “Transformers” films), apocalyptic sci-fi excess (“Armageddon”), fake-authentic historical excess (“Pearl Harbor”), and good old buddy-movie excess (“The Rock” and “Bad Boys”). “Ambulance,” a propulsively violent and in-your-face chase thriller, stakes out a genre we might simply call ’90s excess.

Loud macho bravado oozes from each explosion-laden, mind-numbing, testosterone-overdosing shot in the grossly expensive — and often quite lucrative — filmography of primo bro director Michael Bay. While his previous empty-headed action debacle, “6 Underground,” debuted on Netflix to little fanfare in 2019, Bay’s newest big-screen entry into his pro-military, pro-police, and pro-outdated masculinity oeuvre, “Ambulance,” comes as
“Nobody gets to kill a cop,” earnestly proclaims camo-pants-wearing Captain Monroe (Garret Dillahunt), about the core reason for the bombastic chase in and around downtown Los Angeles at the center of this heroes-and-robbers movie. This is the man behind the terrible “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,” so that the entire plot of this one hinges on the city moving heaven and earth to rescue a naïve policeman seems on brand.

With the LA-set robbery-gone-wrong spectacle “Ambulance,” Michael Bay returns to his mayhem roots – that part of his career when he didn’t need a lot of CGI, but still didn’t know how to shoot action cohesively.
Can one be nostalgic for a filmmaker villain’s destructive origins? It might not matter if what you’re really pining for is the authentic gnarl of actual vehicles moving at top speeds on real streets, for multiple genuine collisions and true explosions, in an age when the common fare for thrill-seekers is digitized superheroes and green-screened action.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing when directors can’t help themselves; fetishes can be fun! But even if you’ve been longing for a more grounded, gritty car-chase movie since the “Fast” franchise left physics behind ages ago, Bay’s addiction to confusion and pointlessness as operating visual/narrative principles keeps even this...

Lou Diamond Phillips was finding his seat on a layover flight, in early May of 2021, when he noticed Prodigal Son co-creator Chris Fedak was calling his cell phone. The Fox drama had already wrapped production on Season 2, and Phillips was confident he’d pick up the phone to hear that Prodigal Son had scored a third season.
“One hundred percent, I thought it was the call to say, ‘Hey, buddy, we’re going back to work in July,'” Phillips recalls to TVLine. “I had every reason, as did the cast and crew, to believe that this was going to be the case.

Universal Pictures has released the first official trailer for “Ambulance,” the latest action thriller from “Transformers” helmer Michael Bay. A remake of a 2005 Danish film of the same name directed by Laurits Munch-Petersen, Bay’s movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The two actors play a pair of bank robbers who hijack an ambulance, operated by a paramedic (Mexican actress Eiza González) and carrying a patient in critical condition. The big-budget action title wrapped shooting in March 2021 and is slated for a theatrical release on February 18, 2022.
Set in Los Angeles over the course of a single day, the film stars Mateen as a hardworking guy with a wife and a kid. With his wife facing serious illness, he desperately needs $231,000 for her surgery. When he reaches out to a criminal friend (Gyllenhaal), he gets talked into taking part in a major bank heist that could net $32 million. Naturally,...

Jake Gyllenhaal hangs out of a moving ambulance and shoots at a police helicopter in the explosive first trailer for Michael Bay’s action-thriller “Ambulance.”
Based on the 2005 Danish film of the same name, Universal’s “Ambulance” stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as an army veteran down on his luck who turns to “brother” Gyllenhaal for help when he needs $231,000 to pay for his wife’s surgery. Gyllenhaal’s solution? A $32 million bank robbery.
Things get complicated when Gyllenhaal, who has a checkered past, mistakenly lets a cop, who ultimately gets shot, into the bank during the robbery. They steal an ambulance to use as a getaway vehicle when the heist goes awry. Of course, it turns out to be carrying said police officer and an Emt, turning the already-complicated ordeal into a hostage situation.

A major option for cancelled Fox drama series Prodigal Son is no longer on the table. I hear HBO Max has passed on the opportunity to pick up the series killer drama starring Michael Sheen and Tom Payne.
HBO Max, whose sibling Warner Bros. TV is the lead studio on Prodigal Son and spearheading the effort to find a new home for it, was considered a logical destination as it already has streaming rights to the two existing seasons of the show. But I hear the streamer didn’t have space, and opted not to pick up a third season of Prodigal Son.
Despite the setback, I hear the studio remains hopeful as they are pursuing other potential buyers. “Wbtv is shopping it as we speak,” Prodigal Son creators Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver told Deadline two days ago in an interview, in which they talked about the Season 2 finale...

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the series finale of Prodigal Son.
On Monday, Fox/Wbtv’s procedural drama Prodigal Son came to an abrupt end, offering resolution as to the fate of Malcolm (Tom Payne), his serial killer father Martin (Michael Sheen), and Martin’s psychotic one-time paramour, Vivian Capshaw (Catherine Zeta-Jones).
The series finale, titled “The Last Weekend,” honed in on questions that have been at the heart of the drama all along: Is Martin truly irredeemable? Is it possible for “The Surgeon” to salvage his relationship with his son? And will Malcolm triumph over the darkness that he’s inherited?
At the beginning of the episode, Martin teams with Malcolm to help him take down a serial killer known as The Woodsman and the pair share a couple of heart-to-heart moments, with Martin hoping to regain his son’s trust, and show, once and for...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the series finale of “Prodigal Son.”)
“Prodigal Son” ended its two-season run on Fox Tuesday night with a very abrupt series finale that the team behind the psychological drama intended only as a season finale. Unfortunately, the show was canceled by its broadcast home just two weeks before tonight’s second-season closer, titled “The Last Weekend,” leaving “Prodigal Son” with a gut-wrenching cliffhanger to end on.
However, creators and showrunners Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver told TheWrap they are working with studio Warner Bros. TV to find a new home for “Prodigal Son,” so their “Prodigies” can find out what happens to Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) and Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen) after the son stabbed his father in a bloody twist of fate in the Season 2 finale.

Fox has canceled “Prodigal Son” after two seasons, Variety has learned.
The news comes ahead of the second season finale, which is scheduled to air on May 18. That episode will now serve as the series finale. An insider with knowledge of the situation characterized the move to cancel the series as a difficult one, but went on to say that the show’s ratings did not justify a third season.

Fox has started making decisions about its bubble dramas.
The network has canceled sophomore drama Prodigal Son. The series was a co-production between Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment and hailed from super-producer Greg Berlanti.
Sources tell THR that the network was a fan of the show’s creative but ultimately the drama starring Michael Sheen, Tom Payne and Bellamy Young never caught on with viewers. The network attempted to court eyeballs with stunt casting this season, enlisting Catherine Zeta-Jones for a heavily recurring role that did little to move Prodigal Son‘s ratings needle.
