Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk was one of the most-anticipated shows of 2022. Revolving around Jennifer Walters, the show follows her court-battles representing superhuman cases, while dealing with her own challenges as the She-Hulk.

Now, most Marvel series have been underwhelming for the past few years. Similarly, when the show aired, it seemed to be following the same disastrous recipe Marvel has been cooking with for some time according to the majority of fans.
Some, though, maintained that She-Hulk seemed to be a better show among the unfortunate series of disastrous shows MCU has been producing. In any case, the debate is heating up the fan circles again after an intriguing poll divided the fandom in two factions.

Call it Chekhov’s editing win. When Anora filmmaker Sean Baker beat Conclave editor Nick Emerson at the Oscars on Sunday night, it all but confirmed the night’s final result would be Anora crowned as Best Picture. That’s because Baker’s upset win in the category ahead of Conclave — the favorite in the odds and the presumed alternate pick to Anora in the Best Picture race — exploded the Edward Berger film's potential win package. Most pundits agreed that Conclave could win Best Picture with Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing, just like Argo did in 2013. But without the editing win, Conclave would’ve had to be Spotlight and won Best Picture with just a screenplay Oscar. Well, Conclave was never as strong as Spotlight throughout the season (and Spotlight didn’t have to face off against an industry juggernaut like Anora). So, Baker’s editing triumph was the ballgame.

Anora scored five Oscars on Sunday, but one of its wins took many, including Jack Antonoff, by surprise. Demi Moore was the odds-on favorite to win Best Actress, but The Substance star fell to Anora star Mikey Madison. But Madison's victory is not very surprising when you get down to it. Here's how she pulled off the win.
1. The stronger movie prevails over narrative
Anora won five Oscars from six nominations, with four wins for Sean Baker: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. The Palme d'Or champ was the Oscar frontrunner for most of the season, with just a short blip after its Golden Globe shutout before it claimed the Producers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America Awards to reassert itself. The Substance had five nominations, a great haul for a body-horror film, and won one, Best Makeup and Hairstyling. It...

Anora had the greatest day at the Oscars. How did it do it? Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng broke down all the 2025 Oscars winners and losers live right after the ceremony.
Anora translated five of its six Oscar nominations into wins, including four personally for Sean Baker: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. He ties Walt Disney with a record four wins in one night, but Baker is the first to win four for the same film. Its fifth trophy was for Best Actress for Mikey Madison. After its wins at the Producers Guild of America, Directors Guild of America, and Writers Guild of America Awards, Anora reclaimed its Best Picture frontrunner status. However, it still wasn't expected to take home five Oscars, especially after getting shut out at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards. This is the third...

Netflix produced its first non-documentary feature in 2015. It was called Beasts of No Nation, and it was fine. However, the film did not get nominated for an Academy Award. Lots has changed in the last decade.
Your favorite streamer often gets nominated for major awards each year. 2025 is no different. Emilia Pérez has 13 nominations alone, including one for Best Picture. So far, Netflix has yet to get a win in that category, and Emilia Pérez is not the favorite this year, either.
In fact, Netflix has also almost been entirely shut out of wins in the acting categories. Only Laura Dern won, and that was for Best Supporting Actress in 2020. But the streamer does do well in some other categories. Those might not be part of the Big 6, but when it comes to documentaries, Netflix knows what it is doing. Just see below, and you'll know.

This year’s Academy Awards race has been one of the most unusually chaotic in recent memory, as controversies have seemingly touched all major contenders. Beyond the obvious crisis regarding the offensive nature of “Emilia Perez,” there has been discourse about the shocking ending of “Conclave,” the depiction of sex workers in “Anora,” the Israeli politics of “The Brutalist,” the subtle (or lack thereof) message of “The Substance,” the unusual filmmaking techniques in “Nickel Boys,” the bland visuals of “Wicked,” and the Best Picture snubs for “Sing Sing” and “A Real Pain.” Nonetheless, a strong crop of contenders means that this year’s ceremony won’t be dull. It’s also a strong sign that the Oscars have selected a great host in Conan O’Brien, a veteran of television and giant movie fan who is sure to remind audiences what they are celebrating.

Without a doubt, this year's Best Actress race is a nail-biter. With frontrunners Demi Moore (The Substance) and Mikey Madison (Anora) having split the major precursor awards, prognosticators are divided between who will take home the top prize. Which leaves room for dark horse contender Fernanda Torres (I'm Still Here) to potentially pull off an upset.
Here are five reasons why the Brazilian actress could surprise everyone and take home the Oscar for Best Actress this Sunday.
See Video Interview: Fernanda Torres
1. She seized her momentum at a key time with the Golden Globe win
Torres solidified her status as a serious Oscar contender back in January when she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Actress. The winner of (either) Best Actress awards at the Globes has gone on to win the Oscar for Best Actress four times in the last six years. While there's no substantive overlap...

Oscars cannot go without some of the most shocking upsets each year. And while the ceremony and the eventual winners are somehow becoming more and more predictable, each year, there are a few winners that either come out of the blue or are given the golden statuette instead of the much more deserving candidate. The unpredictability of the Academy Awards is part of what makes them so fascinating; whether it’s a surprise acting win, an underdog taking home Best Picture, or a perceived front-runner losing at the last moment, these moments ignite debate and fuel passionate discussions among film lovers and critics alike.
Over the years, the Oscars have been known to deliver results that defy conventional wisdom, often influenced by industry politics, sentimental favoritism, or last-minute campaign pushes. While some upsets are celebrated as victories for diversity and innovation in cinema, others leave audiences frustrated, feeling that a more deserving nominee was overlooked.

The most eventual Oscar season in years will end on Sunday night with the 97th annual Academy Awards. According to the Gold Derby odds, several nominees should have their speeches prepared, including stars like Demi Moore (The Substance) and Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain). But who will win at the 2025 Oscars — and who could win? Ahead, the final 2025 Oscar predictions in all categories.
Best Picture
Anora
The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown
Conclave
Dune: Part Two
Emilia Pérez
I’m Still Here
Nickel Boys
The Substance
Wicked
Who will win: Anora
Despite the late push from Conclave, with its key wins at the BAFTA Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards, it would be an overwhelming upset if Anora lost Best Picture on Sunday. Since 2000, only three movies have won top honors from the Producers Guild and Directors Guild and subsequently lost at the Oscars: Brokeback Mountain, La La Land, and 1917.

We have ourselves a race! The Oscar contests for Best Actor and Best Actress got especially interesting at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday because the winners disagreed with another industry peer group honor, the BAFTA Awards. But who tends to win the Oscar under those circumstances, the SAG winner, the BAFTA winner, or someone else entirely?

Let's start with Best Actress, where Demi Moore (The Substance) won the SAG Award while Mikey Madison (Anora) won BAFTA. This is the fifth year in a row that the two awards diverged. Let's break down all those disagreements year by year.

The actor’s insistence on scripting his own scenes in Paddington 3 and Bridget Jones 4 are proof of his talents. So why on earth hasn’t he written his own film yet?
We can all agree that Paddington in Peru was, well, fine. Compared to the previous Paddington films it was a bit of a damp squib, but Olivia Colman got a few chances to be decently silly and it was leagues better than any of the recent live-action Disney remakes.
However, there was one moment where Paddington in Peru touched greatness. And this was the mid-credit sequence. For those who haven’t seen it, it’s a nod to the Paddington 2 scene in which a huge number of prisoners introduce themselves, only this time it’s a huge number of bears. And the person they’re introducing themselves to is Phoenix Buchanan, played by Hugh Grant.

Demi Moore won Best Actress for The Substance at Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards, adding another wrinkle to the Oscar race.
Moore, who was in first place in the Gold Derby odds, beat Mikey Madison (Anora), Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), and Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez).
Still in first place in the Oscar odds, Moore dethroned Madison as the Oscar frontrunner following her Golden Globe victory and inspirational speech, and became the favorite to win SAG, a group that loves a narrative. She also collected the Critics Choice Award and numerous regional critics prizes in the past month — all non-industry awards — but when it was time for the industry to weigh in, BAFTA crowned Madison Best Actress last week. Anora has also shown to be strong with the industry, taking the Producers Guild, Directors Guild, and Writers Guild of America Awards, reestablishing itself as the Best Picture frontrunner.

David Tennant is a good choice for most of the roles that he is chosen for, be it the malicious dragon knight in Critical Role’s The Legend of Vox Machina, The Doctor, or a muted detective in the British version of Broadchurch. However, the American remake of the show sort of made things worse by keeping Tennant as the lead, just expecting him to change his accent.

This was the case with David Tennant reprising his role in the remake as Di Alec Hardy, named Detective Emmet Carver in Gracepoint, which was something that failed to resonate with fans horribly.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of star-power. It's true; all the big stars find their way there eventually. Look no further than the recent Captain America: Brave New World, which has brought Harrison Ford into the MCU franchise and will reportedly bring Liv Tyler back after nearly two decades. Marvel knows the stars.
The Multiverse Saga has seen the additions of some more big names, including Olivia Colman, Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Debra Jo Rupp, Emma Caulfield, Angelina Jolie, Barry Keoghan, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, and so many more. And with Robert Downey Jr. set to return to the franchise in a brand new role, the star-power is clearly still alive and well in the MCU.
That being said, rumor has it that Marvel Studios is particularly interested in adding two more major stars to the franchise - both of whom have made it big on Netflix in recent years.

Some things in life are simply too wholesome to disparage. Mr. Rogers is one, “Wallace & Gromit” is another, and if one were to pick a third example, it would be all too easy to turn towards just one of Britain’s seemingly abundant animated bears. For our purposes, the bear in question is none other than Paddington Brown, whose status as a symbol of friendliness par excellence had been firmly cemented into the new millennium thanks to Paul King’s duology of live-action films.
Naturally, any filmmaker scaling such unparalleled heights as “Paddington 2” would see fit to close the chapter on this pop-up book and leave things on the highest of notes, and technically speaking, King has; now, it’s first-time director Dougal Wilson who’s been selected to close out this trilogy with “Paddington in Peru.” As you’ve probably surmised from the title, this newest film promises...

Many may complain that the third installment of the Paddington franchise, Paddington in Peru, pulls at the heartstrings so blatantly that it feels manipulative. However, I contend that this is precisely why we love this Andean Spectacled Bear so much. Our affection has only grown from these moments and is in full bloom.
This franchise is so positive that one might argue it’s stickier and sweeter than a citrus preserve. Yet, Paddington in Peru maintains the love and levity that has become the trilogy’s signature. It’s a fun family film that knows its audience and keeps them coming back for more.
Paddington in Peru Review and Synopsis
Paddington in Peru’s story is relatable, as Paddington (Skyfall’s Ben Whishaw) receives word that his relative is acting strangely. That relative is his Aunt Lucy (Vera Drake’s Imelda Staunton), the sweet woman who raised him in the Peruvian Amazon.

Channel 4 is bringing back its big guns with a Russell T. Davies drama and the return of a David Mitchell and Robert Webb sketch comedy after 15 years.
It’s a Sin creator Davies is making Tip Toe for Channel 4, which the network describes as “exploring the most corrosive forces facing the LGBTQ+ community today.” The show follows Leo and Clive who live next door to each other in Manchester. Leo runs a bar, Clive’s an electrician, with two teenage sons. But just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense.
Speaking at a Channel 4 showcase this afternoon in London, Davies said the two leads, who he described as “big names,” are “lined up just not quite signed yet.”

Paddington in Paddington In Peru.
Although there are still a few weeks before most kids get their much anticipated Spring breaks, another “family-friendly” franchise flick arrives which hopes to give a bit of warmth to the chilly last weeks of Winter. Now December, and 2024, finished up with two such films, Mufasa: The Lion King which is a rare sequel/prequel in Disney’s series, and another adventure of the video game superstar, Sonic The Hedgehog 3. Like the latter, this new release is the third outing, and it also mixes a CGI-animated character in a live-action world. However, it also shares its origins with the current (for the last two weeks) box office champ Dog Man, which is based on a beloved series of children’s books. Now can the filmmakers score a rare “hat trick’ as the first sequel is so admired that it was ‘name-checked” at the end...

HBO is zeroing in on a key castmember for its Harry Potter series.
The premium cabler is in talks with John Lithgow to play Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. News of Lithgow’s potential involvement follows THR’s reporting that British actor Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) is in discussions to play Professor Severus Snape.
HBO declined comment.
The Harry Potter show is described as a “faithful” adaptation of author J.K. Rowling’s seven-book series chronicling the young wizards years at Hogwarts and his eventual face-off with the evil Lord Voldemort. Warner Bros. Television Group chairman and CEO said in November that “as somebody who is a huge fan of books, the opportunity to get to explore them in maybe a little bit more in-depth than you can in just a two-hour film, that’s the whole reason we’re on this journey.

The "Harry Potter" TV series still needs to cast most of its major characters, but news just broke that Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor John Lithgow is circling the role of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
This was exclusively reported by Deadline, although HBO — the network behind this upcoming series based on the hit novels by Joanne Kathleen Rowling, aka "J.K. Rowling," as well as the massively successful film franchise — did give the outlet a terse, non-committal statement. "We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation," HBO said. "As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals."
If Lithgow does end up playing the mysterious, wry, and extraordinarily brilliant Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore — a legendary wizard who once defended the magical world against the evil wizard Grindelwald — he'll be in good company. Richard Harris originated the...

Sometimes, the British Film Academy paves the road to the Oscars. Sometimes, it doesn’t. Last year, the BAFTA Awards crowned the eventual Oscar winners in the top eight categories, with wins for Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone, Robert Downey Jr., and Da’Vine Joy Randolph and screenplay victories for American Fiction and Anatomy of a Fall. However, BAFTA and the Oscars split on all eight above-the-line categories two years ago. British voters embraced All Quiet on the Western Front that year over the eventual Oscars juggernaut, Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The expectation at the moment — mainly because the race was so crowded before Anora won at the Producers Guild Awards and Directors Guild Awards — is that this year might offer something in the middle. Ahead are three key BAFTA Awards categories whose results might significantly impact the Oscars.

The witty and quirky Fleabag, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, said goodbye to her delightful fans about 6 years ago. Nevertheless, the chant to get another season full of her dry remarks, insightful observations, and insanely relatable antics is louder than ever. Fleabag’s character made many women in their mid-life years feel seen and heard.
In the two seasons it premiered on television, Fleabag couldn’t manage to garner as much popularity as it did when it landed on streaming platforms. Adult women across generations resonated with Fleabag’s life and her reactions to its tragedies.
Particularly when she falls for a man she cannot have, we see a representation of forbidden love like never before. If fans are heard and the actress returns for another season, we would love for her to include the following aspects that can add more value to the story.
1. Fleabag being able to love again...

Paging Sam Wilson! “Captain America: Brave New World” flies to cinemas over the weekend, and Marvel’s latest adventure hopes to thaw an icy box office.
“Captain America: Brave New World,” in which Anthony Mackie’s Avenger takes over the star-spangled shield from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, is targeting $80 million to $85 million over the traditional weekend and $90 million to $95 million through the Presidents Day holiday. The tentpole, which cost north of $180 million before marketing, is landing in roughly 4,100 North American theaters.
The film is expected to add another $110 million at the international box office, though it’ll contend in China with “Ne Zha 2,” which has become the highest-grossing release in the country’s history with $1.1 billion and counting, and “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” which is going straight to Peacock in the U.S. but playing theatrically in the rest of the world.

Paddington in Peru Review: Antonio Banderas and Olivia Colman are fantastic in this family adventure

Plot: When Paddington discovers his beloved aunt has gone missing from the Home for Retired Bears, he and the Brown family head to the jungles of Peru to find her. Determined to solve the mystery, they soon stumble across a legendary treasure as they make their way through the rainforests of the Amazon.
Review: There is no way that any person can dislike the Paddington films. Beautifully made and whimsically appealing for all ages, the first Paddington was a treat when it hit screens a decade ago, and the sequel was a nearly perfect movie in every way. Seven years have passed since Paddington 2 was released, and the world has survived a pandemic and societal shifts aplenty. Having a rousing adventure that the whole family can enjoy together is a welcome respite from all the other things going on, and Paddington in Peru is up to the challenge. With...

After a two-year wait, The Recruit season 2 just premiered on Netflix on Jan. 30. I binge-watched the new season in just a few days, and now, I'm ready for the next spy show to check out next. I bet you are, too!
If you're looking for a new show like The Recruit to watch right now, you're in luck. I shared a list of four good spy shows to watch while we wait to find out if The Recruit is renewed for season 3. The good news is that Netflix has a bunch of new spy and political thrillers to watch right now. We've seen at least four released on Netflix in as many months, not including The Recruit. That streak of new thrillers continues in February with Zero Day starring Robert De Niro coming to Netflix on Feb. 20.

Every awards season, movie fans and aspiring pundits across the country become obsessed with the ever-coveted Academy Awards. The longstanding awards show has long been considered the holy grail of the film industry and can often feel like an all-encompassing part of the discourse, particularly around the four acting categories. In the lead-up to Oscar Sunday, many of us debate who will win, and once the ceremony comes and goes, there are still debates over who should have won.
Amidst this hubbub, it's important to remember that the Oscars are but a modicum of what represents the best performances in film. In fact, several of the best actors working today have never been given the honor of an Oscar despite years of treasured performances. The disparity between what Oscar voters love and what history remembers has always been a widening gap, but we can guarantee these 15 omissions from the winner's circle are particularly egregious.

The beloved Paddington Bear franchise continues its international success with the third installment, “Paddington in Peru,” approaching the $100 million mark in overseas ticket sales. The film has already earned $93.2 million across 51 international territories, even before its North American release on February 14.
Despite currently tracking below the previous films’ $249 million international revenues, industry analysts see significant potential. Several major markets, including France, South Korea, Italy, Spain, and Japan, are yet to premiere the film.
Directed by Dougal Wilson, the new adventure follows Paddington’s journey to visit his Aunt Lucy at the Home for Retired Bears. The plot takes an unexpected turn when the Brown family becomes entangled in a mystery through the Amazon rainforest and Peruvian mountains.
The film features returning voice talents Ben Whishaw as Paddington and Imelda Staunton as Aunt Lucy, alongside live-action stars Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Antonio Banderas, and Olivia Colman.
The weekend also saw interesting developments for other new releases.

“Paddington in Peru,” the third tale about the marmalade-loving bear, is nearing the $100 million milestone at the international box office.
The film, which doesn’t open in the U.S. and Canada until Feb. 14, has collected $93.2 million from 51 overseas territories. Those are promising ticket sales for the family film, though the two prior “Paddington” adventures each earned $249 million in their international runs.
