Exclusive: A buzzy new UK production company is officially launching today in the shape of Unified, which is headed by Amy Jackson, producer of Aftersun and The Nest, and former Film4 exec Lauren Dark, producer of Michael Pearce’s Beast and upcoming Vanessa Kirby pic Night Always Comes.

With bases in Edinburgh and London, the company is currently developing a slate of film and TV projects and will have an emphasis on international collaboration, global co-productions and support in creative development, financing, and physical production.

Dark spent four years as an executive producer at Film4 and while there commissioned Molly Manning Walker’s Cannes winner How To Have Sex, and was an exec producer on Florian Zeller’s Oscar winner The Father starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman, Rebecca Hall’s BAFTA nominee Passing, and Mark Jenkin’s Enys Men, which premiered in Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes 2022.

Call it Chekhov’s editing win. When Anora filmmaker Sean Baker beat Conclave editor Nick Emerson at the Oscars on Sunday night, it all but confirmed the night’s final result would be Anora crowned as Best Picture. That’s because Baker’s upset win in the category ahead of Conclave — the favorite in the odds and the presumed alternate pick to Anora in the Best Picture race — exploded the Edward Berger film's potential win package. Most pundits agreed that Conclave could win Best Picture with Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing, just like Argo did in 2013. But without the editing win, Conclave would’ve had to be Spotlight and won Best Picture with just a screenplay Oscar. Well, Conclave was never as strong as Spotlight throughout the season (and Spotlight didn’t have to face off against an industry juggernaut like Anora). So, Baker’s editing triumph was the ballgame.

Anora scored five Oscars on Sunday, but one of its wins took many, including Jack Antonoff, by surprise. Demi Moore was the odds-on favorite to win Best Actress, but The Substance star fell to Anora star Mikey Madison. But Madison's victory is not very surprising when you get down to it. Netflix produced its first non-documentary feature in 2015. It was called Beasts of No Nation, and it was fine. However, the film did not get nominated for an Academy Award. Lots has changed in the last decade.

We can all agree that Paddington in Peru was, well, fine. Compared to the previous Paddington films it was a bit of a damp squib, but Olivia Colman got a few chances to be decently silly and it was leagues better than any of the recent live-action Disney remakes.

However, there was one moment where Paddington in Peru touched greatness. And this was the mid-credit sequence. For those who haven’t seen it, it’s a nod to the Paddington 2 scene in which a huge number of prisoners introduce themselves, only this time it’s a huge number of bears. And the person they’re introducing themselves to is Phoenix Buchanan, played by Hugh Grant.

Demi Moore won Best Actress for The Substance at Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards, adding another wrinkle to the Oscar race.

Moore, who was in first place in the Gold Derby odds, beat Mikey Madison (Anora), Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), and Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez).

Still in first place in the Oscar odds, Moore dethroned Madison as the Oscar frontrunner following her Golden Globe victory and inspirational speech, and became the favorite to win SAG, a group that loves a narrative. She also collected the Critics Choice Award and numerous regional critics prizes in the past month — all non-industry awards — but when it was time for the industry to weigh in, BAFTA crowned Madison Best Actress last week. Anora has also shown to be strong with the industry, taking the Producers Guild, Directors Guild, and Writers Guild of America Awards, reestablishing itself as the Best Picture frontrunner.

David Tennant is a good choice for most of the roles that he is chosen for, be it the malicious dragon knight in Critical Role’s The Legend of Vox Machina, The Doctor, or a muted detective in the British version of Broadchurch. However, the American remake of the show sort of made things worse by keeping Tennant as the lead, just expecting him to change his accent.

Exclusive: Oscar and Emmy winner Olivia Colman is set to star in and executive produce a drama created, executive produced and showrun by The Affair co-creator Sarah Treem, sources tell Deadline. The project, which is in development at FX, is inspired by the Danish format Ulven Kommer (Cry Wolf), I hear.

The untitled one-hour is described as a sweeping family drama that is both a mystery and thriller. Further details are being kept under wraps. The 2020 Danish series Cry Wolf follows a social worker who tries to find out who is telling the truth in a family with a teen daughter which may be plagued by domestic violence.

Sony Music Entertainment and No Mystery confirmed that the latest installment of David Tennant Does a Podcast With… will launch Feb. 25, with new guests including Stanley Tucci, Russell T Davies, Ben Schwartz and Jameela Jamil.

Tennant, Scottish star of Doctor Who, Good Omens and more recently, Rivals, saw chart-topping success with the podcast in both the U.K. and the U.S. It first launched in 2019.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of star-power. It's true; all the big stars find their way there eventually. Look no further than the recent Captain America: Brave New World, which has brought Harrison Ford into the MCU franchise and will reportedly bring Liv Tyler back after nearly two decades. Marvel knows the stars.

The Multiverse Saga has seen the additions of some more big names, including Olivia Colman, Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Debra Jo Rupp, Emma Caulfield, Angelina Jolie, Barry Keoghan, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, and so many more. And with Robert Downey Jr. set to return to the franchise in a brand new role, the star-power is clearly still alive and well in the MCU.

That being said, rumor has it that Marvel Studios is particularly interested in adding two more major stars to the franchise - both of whom have made it big on Netflix in recent years.

Some things in life are simply too wholesome to disparage. Mr. Rogers is one, “Wallace & Gromit” is another, and if one were to pick a third example, it would be all too easy to turn towards just one of Britain’s seemingly abundant animated bears. For our purposes, the bear in question is none other than Paddington Brown, whose status as a symbol of friendliness par excellence had been firmly cemented into the new millennium thanks to Paul King’s duology of live-action films.

Naturally, any filmmaker scaling such unparalleled heights as “Paddington 2” would see fit to close the chapter on this pop-up book and leave things on the highest of notes, and technically speaking, King has; now, it’s first-time director Dougal Wilson who’s been selected to close out this trilogy with “Paddington in Peru.” As you’ve probably surmised from the title, this newest film promises...

Many may complain that the third installment of the Paddington franchise, Paddington in Peru, pulls at the heartstrings so blatantly that it feels manipulative. However, I contend that this is precisely why we love this Andean Spectacled Bear so much. Our affection has only grown from these moments and is in full bloom.

This franchise is so positive that one might argue it’s stickier and sweeter than a citrus preserve. Yet, Paddington in Peru maintains the love and levity that has become the trilogy’s signature. It’s a fun family film that knows its audience and keeps them coming back for more.

Paddington in Peru Review and Synopsis

Paddington in Peru’s story is relatable, as Paddington (Skyfall’s Ben Whishaw) receives word that his relative is acting strangely. That relative is his Aunt Lucy (Vera Drake’s Imelda Staunton), the sweet woman who raised him in the Peruvian Amazon.

Channel 4 is bringing back its big guns with a Russell T. Davies drama and the return of a David Mitchell and Robert Webb sketch comedy after 15 years.

It’s a Sin creator Davies is making Tip Toe for Channel 4, which the network describes as “exploring the most corrosive forces facing the LGBTQ+ community today.” The show follows Leo and Clive who live next door to each other in Manchester. Leo runs a bar, Clive’s an electrician, with two teenage sons. But just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense.

Speaking at a Channel 4 showcase this afternoon in London, Davies said the two leads, who he described as “big names,” are “lined up just not quite signed yet.”

Now December, and 2024, finished up with two such films, Mufasa: The Lion King which is a rare sequel/prequel in Disney’s series, and another adventure of the video game superstar, Sonic The Hedgehog 3. Like the latter, this new release is the third outing, and it also mixes a CGI-animated character in a live-action world. However, it also shares its origins with the current (for the last two weeks) box office champ Dog Man, which is based on a beloved series of children’s books. The premium cabler is in talks with John Lithgow to play Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. News of Lithgow’s potential involvement follows THR’s reporting that British actor Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) is in discussions to play Professor Severus Snape.

A queer trans nonbinary actor from Australia, Mason-Hyde stars opposite Olivia Colman and John Lithgow in Jimpa, a semi-autobiographical family drama from returning Sundance filmmaker Sophie Hyde. While the Sundance Film Festival mulls a big move for 2027, the 2025 program, its 41st edition, kicked off January 23 in Utah, and you can look below for all of Deadline’s reviews from the fest.

Veteran agent Hildy Gottlieb is set to retire this month, Creative Artists Agency announced on Monday.

Gottlieb, who joined CAA in 2022 following its acquisition of ICM Partners, has represented a diverse range of Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award-winning artists throughout her 48-year career.

She moved to ICM’s Los Angeles office in 1980 following three years at J. Michael Bloom Ltd. in New York.

“Throughout her career, Hildy has been instrumental in cultivating the careers of remarkable artists,” Franklin Latt and Rachel Rusch, co-heads of CAA’s Motion Picture Talent department, said in a joint statement on Monday. “Her superb taste, relationships and passion served her clients and colleagues well. We wish her all the best as she begins this next chapter.”
