It was George Lazenby who portrayed the role of James Bond in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Well, we guess that the new British actor who is reportedly in talks for the role of James Bond… might not like it too much.

Martin Campbell’s Dirty Angels opens in Afghanistan in 2021. Jake and her team are in a very bad spot. They’ve been captured and Isis leader Amir has offered them a choice. He’s going to have her men join in when he has her stoned her to death. If they don’t, he’ll shoot civilians until they do. Considering the civilians were there for the stoning, I’d have let him shoot them.
In any case, the stoning is interrupted by the arrival of a rescue team. They manage to get Jake, but then come under fire and are forced to leave the rest of the team behind. As they fly off, she watches as Amir personally executes them.

China has a long and proud history of banning anything that's even a little bit fun or cool. "Back to the Future," for instance, was banned in China. Why? Because time travel as a concept was deemed subversive enough that it might encourage citizens to reappraise the country's own history — I'm not kidding. China is so censorship happy that they even temporarily banned something as innocuous as "The Big Bang Theory," this time on the grounds that, well... the government never really clarified. Look, I'm not all that opposed to the idea of banning "The Big Bang Theory" outright, but it's the principle that matters here. China's government exerts control over art; you know, the thing that allows people to express their individuality and capture the imaginations of others, thereby bringing us all a little closer together? Yeah, China likes to ban that.

Dirty Angels (2024) Movie Ending Explained: Did Jake’s Resourcefulness Secure the Mission’s Success?
Directed by Martin Campbell and featuring Eva Green, the 2024 rescue thriller Dirty Angels had all the ingredients for greatness but fell short of its potential. Campbell, best known for helming the brilliant Casino Royale, one of the finest James Bond films ever made, makes the uneven action sequences in Dirty Angels even more perplexing.

However, her resolve is tested when a tragic shootout claims Travis’s life. With her mission now more daunting than ever, the question lingers: Can Jake save the girls and see the mission through? In the fragmented world of “Dirty Angels,” we encounter a narrative steeped in disturbing echoes of conflict, in which a group of female soldiers disguises themselves as physicians to navigate the difficult terrain between Isis and Taliban forces.
This idea unfolds against a backdrop of despair, a world in which the borders between savior and destroyer blur, prompting philosophical issues about the nature of courage and sacrifice. In this cruel theater of war, the troops must deal not just with external opponents but also with the specters of their pasts, haunted by the ghosts of colleagues fallen to violence.
The film’s essential events unfold with a grim determination: the kidnapping of schoolgirls serves as a catalyst, forcing our protagonists into a high-stakes rescue operation. Such episodes, in which the cold indifference breaks innocence of horror, create a dismal atmosphere.

From Martin Campbell, the director of Casino Royale and The Protege, comes a new tense action thriller from Lionsgate, Dirty Angels. The film is based on female soldiers going undercover as medics to rescue teenagers caught between Isis and the Taliban. It stars Eva Green and Academy Award nominee Maria Bakalova. We had the opportunity to sit down and talk with director Martin Campbell and the film’s star, Maria Bakalova, ahead of the film’s release.
Dirty Angels follows an American soldier, Jake, who joins an all-women commando unit to help rescue a group of schoolgirls taken in Afghanistan. The mission is to gain the terrorists’ trust by posing as members of a relief organization. This is the type of action thriller that I enjoy. It’s a nicely balanced story mixed with shootouts, explosions, and great hand-to-hand combat.
Ruby Rose as Medic and Jojo T. Gibbs as Geek in Dirty Angels.

Directed by Martin Campbell, Dirty Angels is an action thriller starring Eva Green, Ruby Rose, and Maria Bakalova. Jake, an Army Ranger, was brought onboard to carry out a rescue operation in Afghanistan in 2021, disguised as a member of a medical relief team along with other female American soldiers. A group of school students, all daughters of American ambassadors and foreign ministers, were abducted from a school in Pakistan. The kidnappers, headed by Isis leader Amir, demanded ten million dollars for each student, as well as the release of Sheik al-Shimali. While most of the students were American, the former Afghan Minister of Education’s daughter, Badia Durani, was also among those abducted. Badia’s mother was convinced that her daughter would be the first to be beheaded and that Isis would use her to force the Americans to come up with a way to pay for the release of their daughters.

Review: Martin Campbell is mostly known for being franchise Viagra for the 007 series but he’s been chugging away at action movies for decades. Outside of his Bond work, I’ve never really connected with any of his films but I appreciate how he shoots action. And I’m a sucker for creative re-team-ups, so it’s nice to see it’s nice to see him and Eva Green join forces again. Especially with Green taking on a role that is so different from her usual choices. But sadly nearly everything about Dirty Angels feels dated and uninspired.

Martin Campbell is an outstanding action orchestrator on the silver screen, having directed films like Goldeneye, Casino Royale, and Verticle Limit. He’s ready to cut to the quick with concise shooting and cuts that allow the impact on-screen to reverberate in your bones. His latest action-oriented feature for Lionsgate, Dirty Angels, takes a more grounded approach to the genre, with Eva Green, Maria Bakalova, and others fighting for the safe return of a group of women taken hostage by Isis.
We are delighted to be in Martin Campbell and Maria Bakalova’s company for this exclusive interview, which focuses on Dirty Angels and their excitement about working together on a gripping action blockbuster. During our conversation, Campbell talks about wanting to make a realistic female-led action movie that doesn’t have the group doing unconvincing feats. Campbell wants Dirty Angels to appear raw, grounded, and brutal.

Few masters can span six decades in the spotlight. Yet Ridley Scott has never been a normal filmmaker. A wunderkind and prodigy, Scott broke into the mainstream in the mid-1970s, coming out of the gate with some of the best films in history. Even his “failures” have been reworked, allowing Scott to rewrite his own history in the process. There may not be a better “Director’s cut” filmography around, and Scott’s legend only continues to grow with time. His return to the Colosseum in Gladiator II has rightfully caused a moment of retrospection for the icon. Below are ten of his best features, which becomes a difficult exercise with a filmography as deep as Scott’s.

Things were drastically different for Ana de Armas when she initially arrived in Hollywood. While she garnered popularity for her tenure in several Cuban and Spanish shows, she was far from the decorated Hollywood giant we know her as today. Moreover, the Knives Out star’s lack of expertise in English at the time also added to the challenge.

However, this didn’t hold her back for too long, as the Oscar-nominated star overcame the issue and learned English, at a surprisingly quick pace, to star in the Keanu Reeves-led erotic thriller, Knock Knock.

This is the seventh year that Armani has been the official beauty sponsor of the Venice International Film Festival, getting actresses from Cate Blanchett to Sydney Sweeney red carpet ready. The festival kicked off on Aug. 28 and will continue until Sept. 7, with stars including Blanchett, Clara Galle, Kaya Scodelario and Ncuti Gatwa — as well as some festival guests — touched up in the brand’s Luminous Silk line.
Armani is hoisted up with its own luxurious beauty suite at the Excelsior Hotel on the island of Lido. This year the brand’s beauty products on display are the Luminous Silk foundation and the Luminous Silk Acqua highlighter — which hasn’t launched yet but was a pre-launch just for the festival. It works to blend the complexion, giving it a glow, while the Prisma Glass lip gloss with its oil-in-glass technology gives the face multidimensional volume and shine.

At a Friday afternoon press conference, Nicole Kidman said that the anticipation of presenting the world premiere of her new erotic thriller Babygirl had her feeling “exposed and vulnerable and frightened.” But those emotions certainly were not on display as the Oscar-winning actress hit the red carpet at Palazzo del Cinema in Venice later that night.
Kidman looked every bit like the confident movie star as she faced the crush of photographers, press and adoring fans in an avant-garde couture creation by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli. Fans lining the barricade erupted with cheers as she made her entrance in a striking ensemble that featured a corset bustier in nude organza embroidered with black sequins that cascaded into black fringes. The look was paired with a long black velvet skirt and stilettos. Kidman greeted her director Halina Reijn, dressed in a white cape, and the two gathered for a warm embrace.

Michael Keaton has worked with director Tim Burton on a handful of movies, including the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but he told The New York Times that he thought he “sucked” in one particular Burton film.
The film in question: Dumbo. The 2019 live-action adaptation of the classic Disney movie featured an all-star cast including Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Alan Arkin, and Danny DeVito. Keaton played V.A. Nineties New Queer Cinema icon Gregg Araki has not directed a feature since leaving Eva Green’s body frozen in the suburban snow globe of “White Bird in a Blizzard” in 2014. Since then, the DIY taboo buster has gone the way so many indie directors have to: by applying their personality to TV shows. In Araki’s case, that includes directing episodes of “Dahmer” and “American Gigolo.”
The iconoclastic Southern California filmmaker — known for “The Doom Generation” and “Mysterious Skin” and celebrated for his stylishly drawn stories of youthful sexual identity coming to bloom — also wrote and directed the 2019 series “Now Apocalypse.” Now, he’s teaming up with Karley Sciortino, the co-writer on that Starz show about sex and aliens in LA, for a new movie titled “I Want Your Sex.”

Ridley Scott has made some of the greatest films that have stood the test of time and are celebrated today. The filmmaker is behind classics such as Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Thelma & Louise, etc, and at 86, he continues to churn out epic films mounted on a huge scale. The director is also known for being a perfectionist and is very particular about the look of his films.
A still from Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven | 20th Century Fox
One of his most divisive films was the theatrical version of Kingdom of Heaven. Audiences expected the historical epic to be on the level of Gladiator but it lacked depth and characterization. Several crucial scenes that the director wanted to put were cut from the theatrical version. However, the director’s cut version of the film became a significant improvement over it.

“Bold, beautifully bonkers.” These are the words Cannes 2024 Jury member and actress Eva Green used when describing French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance” and awarding the film the Best Screenplay Prize at the illustrious film festival. Fargeat is known for her 2017 French rape and revenge action thriller “Revenge,” and her latest film, “The Substance,” was not only acclaimed at Cannes but evidently just as audacious.

While Hollywood has been exploiting comic books and YA novels as intellectual property for a long time, French cinema has only recently begun to feed its wealth of 19th century novels into the content machine, churning big-budget epics out of classic books in the public domain.
Last year, a two-part version of Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers hit local screens, raking in $45 million off a combined $80 million budget for both films. Directed by Martin Bourboulon and featuring a who’s who of Gallic stars, including Vincent Cassel, Eva Green, Romain Duris and Louis Garrel, the Musketeers movies were marked by nonstop action and relentless storytelling tailor-made for the streaming age.
Both films were written by the duo of Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière, who previously helmed a series of hit comedies (Daddy or Mommy, Divorce French Style, What’s in a Name?) with a fast-paced Hollywood edge to them.

Last year, in bold defiance of post-pandemic doomsayers, French distributor Pathé doubled down on its commitment to the big-screen experience with its extravagant, no-expense-spared adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ “The Three Musketeers” — a starry two-part tentpole that featured dynamic single-take swashbuckling sequences and a delectably wicked turn from Eva Green. As theatrical events go, it was fun, if not especially faithful to the book, demonstrating that the French could rival the Americans in showmanship.
This year, by way of an encore, Pathé delivered a sweeping three-hour retelling of Dumas’ crowning achievement, “The Count of Monte Cristo,” at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Whereas “Megalopolis” and “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” swallowed up much of the oxygen at Cannes, “Count” premiered with far less fanfare but felt like a genuine triumph: a stunning, emotionally satisfying adventure tale, built on rock-solid source material. Earlier this week, social media scooper @MyTimeToShineH claimed that a 300 TV series is in development. Now, the news has been confirmed by Variety, with the trade explaining that it's still in the "early" stages right now.
It sounds like Warner Bros. Television is still figuring out the creative direction of the show as no writer or platform is currently attached (Max is surely the most likely destination). However, the plan is for this to be a prequel to the 2006 movie directed by Zack Snyder.
Talking of the Man of Steel and Rebel Moon filmmaker, Snyder is said to be in talks to direct and executive produce the 300 prequel, marking his first return to the world of comic books since 2021's Justice League Snyder Cut.

According to sources, a 300 TV series is developing at Warner Bros. TV. It’s early days for what Deadline says could be a prequel to the 2006 film, and fans are already theorizing about the plot, which is unknown. While deals are not in place, we hear Zack and Deborah Snyder could reunite with Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Bernie Goldmann, and Wesley Coller of Stone Quarry for the newly announced project.
