- Although he was born in the inner London borough of the City of Westminster, Gabel spent many of his early years in Canada, before returning to the United Kingdom to live in both Bristol and Manchester in England, UK, where he attended secondary school (the UK equivalent of American middle school and high school).
- While living in Manchester, UK, Gabel attended St. Damian's RC Science College (the "RC" stands for Roman Catholic), a co-ed secondary school in Ashton-under-Lyne in the county of Greater Manchester, not far from his family's home in Manchester.
- As of April 2015, Gabel was romantically involved with his Scorpion (2014) co-star, Katharine McPhee, for several months. They broke up in June 2016 after nearly 2 years together.
- He has Algerian, French, Spanish, Dutch, Anglo-Indian, Irish, and Portuguese ancestry.
- His first major role was as Gurpreet "Guppy" Sandhu on Casualty (1986) from 2004-2007, airing on BBC One. From this role, Gabel was nominated for "Best Newcomer" at the 2005 National Television Awards (UK). He also portrayed at least two other characters on "Casualty", before being cast as Guppy: Jean-Claude Tournier in a 2001 episode, and Jude in a 2004 episode.
