DC has an interesting slate of movies and shows coming in 2025 to kick off a new period for the franchise!
2024 was, in many ways, the end of an era for DC Comics. The Dceu, with its tortured history, ended with the year prior with Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom sinking fast, so there weren't any new films from that franchise this year. The CW's Arroweverse also closed out after 12 years with Superman and Lois, while their animated film universe also ended with the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy.
It's a new day for DC Comics on TV and film, with James Gunn and Peter Safran crafting a new DC Universe. There have been shifts as The Batman II is now delayed until 2026, and other projects are in the works. So DC's 2025 slate isn't as huge as Marvel's, but there are new notable entries coming, so here's a calendar of...

The Max animated series "Harley Quinn" is an irreverent, raunchy comedy that takes the worlds and characters of DC Comics and runs with them in new and unexpected ways. Since the series debuted in 2019, it's given us the love story between Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) that comic fans have always wanted and deserved, helped Harley fully evolve from the Joker's sidekick to a kind of hero in her own right, and has even delivered a Joker (Alan Tudyk) that feels new and refreshing despite the fact that Jokers are currently a dime a dozen. Now, in the new trailer for season 5, it looks like the show is about to run wild with one of the biggest "Teen Titans" mysteries.
It appears that Red X, the character created for the 2004 "Teen Titans" animated series who has also shown up in the "Titans Go!" comic books, is going...

Suits is one of the best legal shows out there, but there are more to enjoy for fans of the series!
Suits has been one of the bigger TV success stories of the last few years. The original series ran on USA Network from 2011 to 2019, a great run that made it a huge rating smash. In 2023, the series hit Netflix and soon rocketed to the top of the viewing charts. That’s led to plans for a new revival series on NBC.
The show rests on the fun of the legal antics combined with great character work, such as the romances and fun banter of the characters. It joins a long list of legal dramas, many of them classic stuff like Law & Order centering on major cases. Yet others are fun in how they have a mix of great characters, sometimes offbeat cases and even some humor. If you’re a fan of Suits,...

Diagnosed with epilepsy, director Miles Levin refused to hide. Instead, he took an “emotional leap” with the upcoming feature “Under the Lights.”
“The best movies come from journal entries you wouldn’t want anyone to read,” he says.
“If you have a story that comes out of you with no risk whatsoever, it’s less likely to be honest. But if it’s something you’d rather hide under your bed… It can be relatable to other people. These are things I’ve never told anyone, but I made a bet they would understand. So far, the answer has been a resounding ‘yes.’”
Awarded at Poland’s American Film Festival, where it picked up four prizes at its industry sidebar U.S. in Progress, Levin’s drama – currently in post-production – focuses on Sam, who doesn’t want to be defined by his affliction. He strives to experience normal teenage life...

An upsurge in directors starring in their own movies has seen mixed results. Lake Bell, Elia Suleiman and Viggo Mortensen explain the perks and pitfalls of being on both sides of the camera
Since the very first directorial cameos – George Méliès’ sorcerer-like appearances in The Vanishing Lady and Playing Cards in the 1890s – directors have often been unable to resist being in front of, as well as behind, the camera.” M Night Shyamalan, a film-maker notoriously eager to appear in his own work speaks for all these frustrated thespians: “It’s important for me to be a part of the film in some way […] I would love to play the lead role, but it’s physically impossible.”
An ever-growing league of multi-hyphenate actor-directors have, however, been proving Shyamalan wrong. Aside from the obvious heavyweights in 20th-century cinema who juggled on and off-camera personae, the past decade has seen a staggering...

The Story: After causing a deadly accident while driving drunk, a family man (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is sent to a maximum security penitentiary. There, he’s recruited by the Aryan Brotherhood, and coerced into acts of violence that threaten to erase any trace of the man he once was.
The Players: Starring: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Omari Hardwick, Lake Bell, Jon Bernthal, Emory Cohen & Jeffrey Donovan. Written and directed by Ric Roman Waugh.
The History: Shot Caller was released with very little fanfare last summer. A low-key VOD release from Saban, which nonetheless received some pretty good reviews when it played the festival circuit, it forms a loose trilogy for director Ric Roman Waugh, following his earlier Felon and Snitch. Originally a Relativity production, that company’s bankruptcy sent the finished film into a tailspin, hence the limited release. Nobody thinks they’ve got an accent, which means they really notice when someone is imitating their accent so badly that it borders on mockery. For instance, most Americans would describe their own speech as “normal,” but have you ever heard a foreign actor just completely bomb it? If not, go watch Iwan Rheon pretend to be an American rock star in The Dirt, Just his scenes, though. That movie is a lot.
That’s why it’s all the more impressive when they get it right, even if, by the nature of getting it right, you never even notice. “In high school, I remember people being shocked to learn Hugh Laurie was English when House was huge,” Redditor homeMalone89 told r/Movies. “I think Daniel Kaluuya’s American accent work is the best there currently is.”

HBO has picked up to series The Chair Company, its half-hour comedy pilot starring Tim Robinson who co-wrote it with his writing partner Zach Kanin.
The pickup for The Chair Company, which Robinson and Kanin executive produce with Adam McKay and Todd Schulman, follows the series order earlier this week for HBO’s other 2024 comedy pilot, an untitled ensemble half-hour written, executive produced by and starring Rachel Sennott, making for a 2-for-2 pilot-to-series batting average.
With HBO also recently handing a straight-to-series order to a Bill Lawrence-Matt Tarses comedy starring Steve Carell, this marks the largest contingent of new comedy series at the premium network in years as it has ramped up half-hour development in light of stalwarts Curb Your Enthusiasm and Barry coming to an end and the pending departure of Somebody, Somewhere.

Whether it’s DC’s animated comedy “Harley Quinn” or its spinoff series, “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!,” vulgar language and bloody violence are center stage for every episode. Katie Rich, a writer and executive producer on both, relishes that the shows’ villainous protagonists allow her and her team to crank up the “naughtiness” a few notches.

Mother, Couch is the type of movie with a jaw-dropping cast that you keep hoping and praying gets better but never turns that corner. And that’s saying something for a film that mercifully ends around the 90-minute mark. The film has worthy performances, particularly from its star, Ewan McGregor, who does what he can to elevate the material.
However, Mother, Couch is more interested in its existential mood than in what will draw the audience in. The story is not engaging or interesting, and, for that matter, entertaining is the story. That’s the one thing about some first-time directors—they forget their audience.

“I’ve been bleeding my whole life.”
Mother, Couch is a boiling point of a picture. Written and directed by Niclas Larsson (and based on Jerker Virdborg’s novel Mamma i soffa), this is an edgy story about small discourtesies and how they sometimes build into something big, nasty, and violent. Three half-siblings are forced back together when their mother (Ellen Burstyn) refuses to move from a couch in a big, dilapidated furniture store. The daughter (Taylor Russell) of the store owner appears very unworried by the dilemma. She even invites them to stay the night if it’s helpful.
For a debut feature, Larsson is incredibly confident in his cast and aesthetic. This is essentially a one-location narrative with a handful of sojourns to a beach, a house. McGregor leads as David, the unsure, thin-skinned of the three children. As he negotiates with their mother to get off the couch,...

Fourteen years following the premiere of HBO’s How to Make It In America stars Bryan Greenberg and Victor Rasuk have reteamed on a podcast.
“We (Almost) Made It” focuses on all things hustle and features interviews with people working hard and making moves—And the guys will share memories from the show and their reactions to their current rewatch. Guest on released episodes include How To Make It In America creator Ian Edelman and their co-star Luis Guzman, which are available now via your favorite podcast network.
While the series was short-lived—it ran for two seasons on HBO before it was prematurely canceled—both Greenberg and Rasuk are asked repeatedly about putting the gang back together. “The point of this podcast series is not to campaign for that,” they told Deadline. However, if something was offered, they would be down to revisit this universe in a New York minute.

"You didn't have to go all crazy just to get the three of us together!" Film Movement has revealed an official trailer for Mother, Couch, a very strange dark comedy from filmmaker Niclas Larsson making his feature directorial debut. This premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last fall to plenty of mixed reviews, one of the big discoveries from last year's fest even though critics are divided on it. Three children are brought together when their mother refuses to move from a display couch in a furniture store. Which sends them all on an existential odyssey. TIFF intro adds: Ewan McGregor, Rhys Ifans, Lara Flynn Boyle, and Ellen Burstyn star in this sublime and eccentric story about the grand expanse that parents occupy within our lives and the family that has to come together to help you find your way. The cast also includes F. Murray Abraham, Lake Bell, and Taylor Russell.
