Netflix has given a greenlight to “Famous Last Words,” a unique documentary series format that features the final major interview from cultural icons. Those subjects secretly film their conversations, which remain untouched and unseen — until they are aired posthumously.

Emmy winner Brad Falchuk will produce the show via his Teley-Vision banner, which has a multi-year deal with Netflix. Banijay Entertainment’s Bsna is also behind the show, along with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts — where the interviews will be preserved and housed in its library.

Falchuk and Mikkel Bondesen will executive produce with David Goldberg and showrunner David Friedman.

In recent years, Nicolas Winding Refn has become known to many domestic audiences for his neon-tinged, Los Angeles-set films such as “Drive” and “The Neon Demon.” But before that, the Danish director rose to prominence for documenting the criminal underbelly of Copenhagen in the “Pusher” trilogy. When the Covid-19 pandemic prevented him from traveling outside his home country to work, he set his sights on Copenhagen once again.

Refn’s latest project is “Copenhagen Cowboy,” a new six-episode Netflix series that he previously described as a “poetic neo-noir.” The project recently wrapped production and is set to premiere later this year on the streaming service, following its official debut at the Venice Film Festival. Nicolas Winding Refn is diving into the neon-tinted underbelly of Copenhagen in his latest neo-noir series.

The “Drive” and “Neon Demon” director is set to write and direct “Copenhagen Cowboy” for Netflix, the streamer confirmed. The “poetic neo-noir” six-episode series follows a young heroine, Miu (Angela Bundalovic), who travels through Copenhagen’s criminal underworld.

The drama is filmed in Denmark and production has wrapped as of July 2022. “Copenhagen Cowboy” will premiere globally on Netflix later this year.

Mind-bending Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, The Neon Demon) is returning to his roots for Copenhagen Cowboy, his first-ever series for Netflix.

Described as a “thrill-inducing, neon-drenched noir series,” the six-part show stars Angela Bundalovic, of Netflix’s Danish hit The Rain, as Miu, a young heroine who travels through Copenhagen’s criminal netherworld.

Refn made his name with his Pusher trilogy of Danish crime films, which introduced the world to future star Mads Mikkelsen.

Zlatko Buric, who plays Serbian local drug lord Milo in all three Pusher films, reteams with Refn for Copenhagen Cowboy. Refn’s daughter, actor Lola Corfixen, co-stars, alongside Andreas Lykke Jørgensen, Jason Hendil-Forssell, Li Ii Zhang, Dragana Milutinovic, Mikael Bertelsen and Mads Brügger.

Netflix has announced its collaboration with Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn’s on drama Copenhagen Cowboy, which marks his first production in his native Denmark in 15 years.

World premieres announced across the competitions include Bridgend director Jeppe Rønde’s The John Dalli Mystery [pictured], a Kafkaesque story with Mikael Bertelsen and Mads Brügger; Do Donkeys Act?, a film about unruly donkeys narrated by Willem Dafoe; Accidental Anarchist, about the British former diplomat Carne Ross who has transformed into an anarchist; Sigrid Dyekjær’s A Modern Man, about violinist and model Charlie Siem; and Ben Rivers’ Urth, about the failed ecosystem Biosphere 2.0 in Arizona.
