Miramax will go back to school with a new version of “The Faculty,” the 1998 sci-fi thriller that became a box office hit and cult favorite. Robert Rodriguez, who directed the original, will produce the film.
Breakout talent Drew Hancock is writing the remake’s script. Hancock’s debut feature, “Companion,” which he wrote and directed, hits theaters this weekend. It has earned rave reviews. BoulderLight, the production company behind “Barbarian” and Zach Cregger’s upcoming film “Weapons,” is producing the new picture.
The original version of “The Faculty” focused on a group of students who begin to suspect that the off-beat administrators and teachers at their high school are hiding a deadly secret. Amazon MGM has released the action-packed first trailer for A Working Man, which stars Jason Statham as a seemingly average, blue-collar construction site employee who happens to be a one-man wrecking crew himself.
Directed by David Ayer, A Working Man is based on the 2014 novel Levon's Trade (the film's original title) by Chuck Dixon, and follows Statham's former black ops agent attempting to lead a peaceful life working as his friend's foreman.
When his boss's teenage daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers, Levon - armed with a sledgehammer and an ear-shattering American accent - is forced to use his old set of skills to track her down while uncovering a criminal conspiracy.
Thunderbolts* star David Harbour also features as a blind archer (someone's read Mark Millar's Old Man Logan).
"Jason was amazing to work with," said Ayer of his leading man in a recent interview with Screen Rant. "It's interesting because he's an athlete,...

“Jason Statham Becomes One of the Most Reliable Action Stars of the 2020s” might not have been on anyone’s bingo card of film industry predictions at the end of 2019, but it appears to be shaping out that way.
The “Transporter” star has enjoyed a career renaissance in recent years, leading the 2023 shark sequel “Meg 2: The Trench” to nearly $400 million at the global box office before teaming up with David Ayer for the ridiculous (and ridiculously fun) action thriller “The Beekeeper.” Now, Amazon MGM hopes that the pairing of Ayer and Statham can produce even more box office gold after with reunion movie “A Working Man.”
Adapted from veteran comic book writer Chuck Dixon’s 2014 novel “Levon’s Trade,” “A Working Man” is co-written by Ayer and Sylvester Stallone. With those kinds of legacy connections to the action genre on both sides of the camera, it should come as a...

A Working Man Trailer Reunites Jason Statham With The Beekeeper Director For More High-Octane Action
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.
Jason Statham, not one to spend a lot of time not kicking ass, is back with another ass-kicking action flick. Amazon MGM has released the first trailer for "A Working Man," which was previously going under the title of "Levon's Trade." The big appeal here is that Statham has reunited with director David Ayer, who was at the helm of last year's actioner "The Beekeeper." Apparently, that collaboration went well, as evidenced by this reunion. Check out the trailer above.
"A Working Man" is based on the book "Levon's Trade" by author Chuck Dixon. Not to get too ahead of ourselves here, but this is also just the first book in a series of Levon Cade books, meaning we could be looking at a franchise here, if all goes well. It's not unlike Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" books, which...

A Working Man centers on Levon Cade (Statham), a former black ops agent who has turned to a simpler life of working construction. When his boss’ daughter goes missing, Levon’s mission to find her plunges him into a world of corruption.

Despite the nostalgia factor of Robert Zemeckis‘ Here, reuniting him with Forrest Gump stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright in a multi-generational tale, its use of AI bodes for a frightening future to some.
Lisa Kudrow recently criticized the film’s use of digital de-aging to depict the cast as their characters over several time periods as “an endorsement for AI” after the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes called for efforts to regulate the technology.
“They shot it, and they could actually shoot the scene and then look at the playback of them as younger, and it’s ready for them to see,” she explained on a recent episode of the Armchair Expert podcast.
“And all I got from that was, this is an endorsement for AI and oh, my God. It’s not like, ‘Oh, it’s going to ruin everything,’ but what will be left? Forget actors, what about up-and-coming actors?...

Just before Halloween back in 2022, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. The movie was given a theatrical release back in August, and JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols loved it; you can read his 9/10 review at This Link. It has since moved on to digital and physical media releases… but distributor Magenta Light Productions feels that it should have performed better at the box office, and believe it would have if the film had a better marketing campaign. So they have filed a lawsuit against their marketing partner, Spellbinder.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Magenta Light Productions, in a fraud and breach of contract lawsuit filed this week in Los Angeles Superior Court,...

Tom Hanks‘ new film, Here, only made $5 million at the box office during its opening weekend.
Hanks teamed up with Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis and co-star Robin Wright for the film, which follows multiple couples and families who inhabit the same home over the course of a century. Despite the all-star team and its $50 million production value, Here has failed to deliver in revenue.
According to Deadline, multiple studios originally passed on the film due to it being “a risky and difficult movie for broad audiences.” Zemeckis said former Miramax head Bill Block is to thank for Here making it to the big screen.

“I have to give all the credit to Bill Block who had the courage and had the vision to understand the movie and make it,” he said on Deadline‘s “Crew Call” podcast.

Robert Zemeckis has always been about a great technological or storytelling conceit in his movies whether it’s the live-action animated hybrid of the 3x Oscar winning Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, the insertion of Tom Hanks in famed historical footage in Oscar Best Picture Forrest Gump or the motion capture of The Polar Express.
However, his latest movie, the $50M Miramax financed and Sony released Here, which brings back together the Gump gang of Tom Hanks, Robin Wright and scribe Eric Roth, was a situation of technology outshining the story. Critics deep sixed the multi-generation family drama which takes place in one location throughout time at a fixed angle with 36% Rotten while audiences weren’t any better with a B- CinemaScore, 57% Rt audience score and 69% positive on PostTrak.

First Weekend Of November Belongs To Sony With ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ & ‘Here’ – Box Office Preview
Sony will own the first weekend of November at the box office, with the second frame of the Culver City lot’s Venom: The Last Dance down around 60%, or $20 million, for No. 1, followed by the studio’s release of Miramax’s adult drama Here.
Here, which reps the Forrest Gump reteam of filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, scribe Eric Roth and stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, is expected to do around $7M with an eye on hopefully pulling older adults out again this weekend after they made a date for Focus Features’ Conclave last weekend ($6.6M opening).
It remains to be seen whether Here slots in second place, giving Sony the frame’s 1-2 punch.
The question is whether audiences will go along with watching a generations drama story about various families on the same property/house at a skewed-degree angle. Hanks and Wright are technologically de-aged to their former 1980s/1990s selves,...

During the Robert Zemeckis film’s Friday premiere at AFI Fest in Los Angeles, Hanks opened up about reuniting with Wright for the century-spanning epic drama after starring together in Zemeckis’ Oscar-winning Forrest Gump (1994).
“Everybody was [saying], ‘Oh, what was it like, the reunion?’ You know what it was? It was like, ‘Hey, how you doing?'” Hanks told People.
“We just picked up right where we left off. I’m going to say we love each other because we’re so easy with each other,” he continued. “It was a luxury to be able to come in and get the same conversations we’ve been having for the last 30 years after a moment of, ‘Hey, this kooky look, do you believe this? Can you believe this? Look at this, look at this.'”

Tom Hanks and Robin Wright star in the movie, which is “about multiple families and the special place they inhabit — the story travels through generations, capturing the human experience.” Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly and Michelle Dockery also star.

Spoilers for "Strange Darling" follow.
Jt Mollner's "Strange Darling" lives up to its title as dolled-up sleaze (the make-up being 35mm film). Half-erotic thriller and half slasher, it's a 21st century "Texas Chain Saw Massacre" structured like "Pulp Fiction." The film plays with you by taking a cut-and-dry premise and experimenting with how far it can twist. The result, which never breaks, is one of 2024's best horror films. (Read /Film's "Strange Darling" review here.)
What will keep you especially glued to the screen is Willa Fitzgerald's performance as "The Lady," a bleeding and terrified woman seemingly in need of help. Fitzgerald (who has been acting since 2008) has earned fans for her parts in the MTV "Scream" series and "Reacher" season 1 as Roscoe Conklin. She was also in Mike Flanagan's "The Fall of the House of the Usher," where she played the young Madeline Usher. Even in that series' huge ensemble,...

Strange Darling is now set to receive a digital release next week, on October 1st, and as we approach that date, writer/director J.T. Mollner and producer Roy Lee have revealed that the film had a bumpy production and almost lost Fitzgerald at the demand of the studio!
Speaking on the podcast The Business with Kim Masters, Mollner revealed that Miramax shut down the production after just two days of filming! Mollner said (with...

One of this year’s most acclaimed genre movies, director J.T. Mollner’s Strange Darling is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% score from critics and an 85% score from audiences, the film making over $3 million in relatively limited release across the past month. Even Stephen King called the thriller from Magenta Light Studios “a clever masterpiece.”
But there was a time when Strange Darling almost didn’t even get finished. After just two days of filming, production company Miramax shut down the production of the genre film!
Thankfully, Spooky Pictures producer Roy Lee stepped in to fight for the film and get it back on track, and both Lee and writer/director J.T. Moller detail those early production woes in a new chat with the podcast The Business with Kim Masters.
“It was very traumatic for me,” Mollner explains. “It took almost six years to get [Strange Darling] off the ground.

Get ready for another go-around with the Guy Ritchie series, The Gentlemen. Variety has reported that the Netflix series has been renewed for season 2. In his review for season one, our own Alex Maidy said, “The Gentlemen series feels like a reimagining of the film. The story hits some vaguely similar notes but the vast majority is completely different. […] This is a unique reimagining of a successful story that takes it in a different direction and sets up future seasons.”
Netflix U.K.’s VP spoke ecstatically about the show’s successful first season, “With its gun-toting chickens and drug-dealing Dukes, The Gentlemen was a huge hit with audiences in 2024. Not really a surprise as Guy Ritchie remains one of the industry’s most iconic creators telling authentically British stories with his signature swagger, grit and wit. “My comedy is too dry and unsentimental for the new masters,” says Greg Mottola of his cancelled Confess, Fletch sequel.
A planned sequel to the 2022 comedy Confess, Fletch is no longer happening, its director and co-writer Greg Mottola has confirmed. Jon Hamm, who played the title role of Irwin ‘Fletch’ Fletcher, was keen to return for at least one further film, and a script had been written, but a changing of executives at Miramax appears to have ended the chances of it getting made.
“Alas, the new head of Miramax, who controls the rights to all the books, shot down my sequel project,” Mottola wrote in response to a post written by critic Bilge Ebiri on Twitter/X/Muskbook. “The Fletch curse got me.”
With that response triggering messages from other users who expressed their affection for the comedy thriller, Mottola responded with some surprisingly candid insights into the sequel’s cancellation.

Fans of the Fletch franchise might need to console themselves with a steak sandwich or two.
Greg Mottola, who directed the 2022 feature Confess, Fletch, took to social media to give an update about his planned sequel to the film that starred Jon Hamm as Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher. Hailing from Miramax, Mottola’s movie rebooted the character that originated in author Gregory Mcdonald’s novel series and was memorably played by Chevy Chase in the 1985 comedy Fletch and its sequel four years later.
After film critic Bilge Ebiri posted this week on X (formerly Twitter) that Hollywood should make more Fletch movies, Mottola pointed out that his sequel to Confess, Fletch was no longer in development, with the director attributing the setback to a change of leadership at Miramax. At the time of the Confess, Fletch release, Mottola said in an interview that he had already been hired to write a...

Sony Pictures has moved up the release of TriStar’s “Here,” the upcoming drama that reunites “Forrest Gump” trio Robert Zemeckis, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, to Nov. 1.
Also starring Michelle Dockery and Paul Bettany, the film focuses on a single spot of land from the creation of Earth to the present day, eventually focusing on a couple that gets married and moves into the house that is built on that land.
“Here” was previously set for release on Nov. 15, but now has some space from two major tentpole films: Universal’s “Wicked” and Paramount’s “Gladiator II.”
The movie will now be released alongside a pair of specialty titles with Oscar potential: Focus Features’ Vatican thriller “Conclave” starring Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci, and Searchlight’s Sundance acquisition “A Real Pain” starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin. Unlike those films, “Here” will be a wide release.

Updated with new release date: Sony said Tuesday that it will now open Miramax’s Here, the reteam of Forrest Gump filmmaker Robert Zemeckis and its stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, on November 1. It’s the only studio theatrical release going wide on that day after Samuel Goldwyn’s Liam Neeson title Absolution, Viva’s animated Hitpig and the George Huang-directed Luke Evans movie Weekend in Taipei. There’s been no buzz that Here will land a place at the fall’s film festival troika of Toronto, Venice and Telluride.
Previously, June 21: Sony said Friday that its new film Here, reuniting the director, writer, and stars of the classic Forrest Gump, will open wide via TriStar Pictures on November 15.
Previously, the film had been scheduled for an exclusive run in Los Angeles in New York on that date, with a limited and wide release to follow on November 22 and November 27, respectively.

Tom Hanks and Robin Wright experience pivotal moments at one very important place in the trailer for Here.
Sony’s TriStar Pictures is set to release director Robert Zemeckis’ drama feature in theaters on Nov. 15. Here tells the story of multiple families over the course of generations, with the entire film taking place in a single location, which becomes the home where Hanks’ and Wright’s characters reside. The trailer shows an early exchange between the characters, along with glimpses at their future ups and downs.
“Time sure does fly, doesn’t it?” Hanks tells Wright in the trailer, leading her to reply, “It sure does.”
Later in the footage, Hanks invites Wright to stay over at his home: “You know, if you like, you could spend the rest of the night here.” She responds, “I could spend the rest of my life here.”
Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly and Michelle Dockery round out the cast.

The Exorcist directed by William Friedkin and written by William Peter Blatty is considered, still, perhaps the greatest horror film of all time, certainly the most popular. The 1973 movie was even nominated for 10 Oscars and won two, unheard of in the genre at that time. It has been endlessly imitated for the past half century right up to now, recently and notably David Gordon Green’s critically reviled 2023 reboot The Exorcist: Believer, which even brought original Exorcist star Ellen Burstyn back into the fold after all these decades. But the Og is impossible to touch, so what was going through Joshua John Miller’s mind when he decided to take on a new film so closely linked to it?
Director and co-writer (with M.A. Fortin) of The Exorcism, Miller has the 1973 film in his family bones, even if he wasn’t born until a year after its release. His father is Jason Miller,...

Hallowed: Chapter 1 — A Fantasy Horror Comic: "Civil war has ravaged the country of Metazoa as two opposing faiths crusade for the holy city of Bilateria. Broken, beaten, and starving, a band of deserters make a desperate trek across their war-torn homeland in an attempt to escape their sins and the religious zealots pursuing them. Leading them is "Knight Tearer" Flagg, a killing machine as disillusioned as he is deadly. His goal? A ship—then Terroir, a land across the sea supposedly free of war and prejudice. He just needs to get his men there, no easy task considering the miles of frozen wasteland ahead of him and the Apostles behind, a ruthless group of soldiers tasked with snuffing out heresy and executing deserters. The situation is grim, almost hopeless, when out of nowhere...a forest appears. And in the center? A curious and ancient tower. Regardless of "how" or "why,...

The horror film The Exorcism, which was formerly known as The Georgetown Project and stars Russell Crowe, was once set to receive a North American theatrical release on June 7th, but you may have noticed that it’s not currently in theatres. That’s because it was pushed back to June 21st – and with that date one week away, a pair of clips from the film have arrived online. You can watch one in the embed above, and the other can be found at the bottom of this article.
Crowe recently played real-life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth in the supernatural horror film The Pope’s Exorcist, which could turn out to be a franchise starter. He actually worked on this movie before making The Pope’s Exorcist – in fact, The Exorcism was first announced four and a half years ago. So it’s good to see that it’s finally making its way out into the world.

We have good news to share, horror fans. There's another new horror movie you should be on the lookout for this August, and it's the film Strange Darling, starring Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. This movie joins other theatrical horror flicks slated to be released in August, such as Cuckoo starring Hunter Schafer and M. Night Shyamalan's Trap.
Strange Darling is a horror-thriller written and helmed by indie American genre filmmaker Jt Mollner. This is his second feature. He's best known for writing the script for and directing the Western film Outlaws and Angels, which stars Chad Michael Murray, Francesca Eastwood, Teri Polo, Frances Fisher, Luke Wilson, Madisen Beaty, and Ben Browder. Joining Mollner in the crew is Giovanni Ribisi, who not only produced the horror-thriller flick but also served as Director of Photography. Other producers of the film include Bill Block, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Chris Ivan Cevic.
