It's no secret that video game movies have been risky propositions for most of their history, though that's changed in more recent years with successful adaptations of big properties like Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. But back in the mid-2010s, the genre was still mostly wildcards bending toward box office bombs. Unperturbed by this, Sony decided to get in on the business with a handful of movies adapting major PlayStation properties. Specifically, two hit action-platformer franchises from the PS2 era -- "Ratchet & Clank" and "Sly Cooper" -- were put in development as animated films.
The "Ratchet" adaptation was announced in 2013, and the "Sly" movie got a full teaser trailer a year later. Blockade Entertainment, animation studio Rainmaker Entertainment, and director Kevin Munroe and animation studio were attached to both. The projects even had some video game pedigree in the form of Blockade producer Brad Foxhoven, who previously worked...

Chris Evans Was Perfectly Cast As Casey Jones In This 17-Year-Old Tmnt Movie That Never Got A Sequel

Although Tmnt is one of the more forgotten Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle adaptations, it features a perfectly cast Chris Evans as Casey Jones, which makes it worth a watch. Released in 2007, Tmnt follows the turtles shortly after the defeat of the Shredder, the main antagonist to the turtles in the franchise. In the animated movie, Chris Evans voices Casey Jones, April's boyfriend and an ally to the turtles.
Even though Tmnt never got the sequel it deserved, it is a great standalone movie that features aspects of previous Tmnt adaptations. Evans' Casey Jones, in particular, is heavily inspired by the Casey voiced by Marc Thompson in the 2003 animated series and Pat Fraley in the 1987 Tmnt movie. Chris Evans' history in the superhero genre especially adds to the significance of his casting in the 2007 version.

There are no capes and there is no spandex in Dampyr, the fantasy horror film by Italian director Riccardo Chemello. But the English-language feature, which has been a surprise hit on Netflix, is the first entry in what you could call the Bonelli Cinematic Universe.
The vampire-hunter tale, starring Wade Briggs, Stuart Martin, Frida Gustavsson, Sebastian Croft, David Morrissey and Luke Roberts, is the first of a new wave of comic-book adaptations from Bonelli Entertainment, the Italian publisher billed as Italy’s answer to Marvel.
The film, which cracked the top 3 on Netflix’s US service, is the origin story of Harlan Draka, a Serbian dampyr, or half-breed offspring of a vampire dad and human mother, whose blood has the power to kill the undead. Draka was first introduced to Italian comic fans 20 years ago — the collapse of the former Yugoslavia and the 1990s Balkan war is the comic’s...

Last weekend's box office top five was hotly-contested, with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," "Meg 2: The Trench," and "Oppenheimer" all vying for second place. "Meg 2" ultimately landed the No. 2 spot, with "Mutant Mayhem" settling at No. 4. It's worth noting that "The Trench" owed its victory to $3.2 million in Thursday previews that, per box office tradition, were counted as part of its Friday total. "Mutant Mayhem" released earlier in the week, and therefore only Friday-to-Sunday ticket sales were included in its weekend gross. But either way, it was a very tight race with only a $2 million difference in the three movies' totals.
Now in their second weekend of release, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" and "Meg 2: The Trench" have swapped places and are starting to separate. "Tmnt" is on track to drop just 48 percent this weekend, adding $14.6 million to its domestic gross and rising to third place on the charts,...

After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them. We've not kept up to date with the animated world of Tmnt. The last animated movie we remember was Kevin Munroe's ill-fated feature length outing from 2007, which pretty much sank Imagi Animation Studios. We thought it was pretty good at the time, at the very least the action was pretty good. Alas, here we are some 15 years later and a new, much...

The heroes in a half-shell are back.
The first trailer for Paramount Pictures’ and Seth Rogen’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” reboot has been released. It’s the latest iteration of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello after several TV shows and film runs, and this is the second fully animated version to hit the big screen. This version of “Tmnt” has a distinctly colorful, comic-book animation style, reminiscent of 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”
Revealed on Saturday, the voice cast includes Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon as the roles of Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael, respectively. The A-list cast has Jackie Chan as Master Splinter, Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neil, Rogen as Bebop, John Cena as Rocksteady, Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog, Rose Byrne as Leatherhead, Ice Cube as Superfly, Natasia Demetriou as Wingnut, Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman, Post Malone as Ray Fillet,...

Trailblazer. Icon. Turtle. These are just a few of the words one could use to describe Venus de Milo, a character largely forgotten by pop culture despite being entirely unforgettable.

It producer Roy Lee, is developing a very cool new live-action film project based on the classic 1980s Japanese battle mech sci-fi property Ma.K. If you're not familiar with the property, it involved giant robots, two-legged tanks, and an epic battle for survival.
Ma.K was created by artist and sculptor Kow Yokoyama and was introduced in the early 80s in Hobby Japan magazine. It was a monthly comic that was also tied into customizable model kits. They ended up finding a strong and large cult following. Yokoyama is also known for working on films such as Star Wars and Blade Runner.
This could seriously end up being an incredibly epic movie! I just hope that Lee ends up bringing on a talented team of individuals to bring it to life. Here are the story details:
The story is set far, far into the future after a nuclear war caused survivors to flee Earth.

Dave Green’s first film, Earth To Echo, had some mighty familiar DNA. You could tell that he was a fan of ‘80s Amblin’ films and that he’d absorbed the lessons of the film on a nearly molecular level like many of the film nerd kids who grew up on those movies. More than anything, he got the relationships between the kids right in that film, and it appears he carried that skill set over to a franchise that I have very little personal fondness for, resulting in what may well be the most consistently fun live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie ever made. It’s easy to dismiss someone’s fondness for something as pure nostalgia, but it’s also reductive and, in many cases, not why someone loves something. I may not personally be a Turtles fan, but I know enough of them (and have fathered a...

The Ratchet & Clank movie opens on Friday, April 29 and fans of the video game franchise and newcomers alike will be introduced to a brand new adventure. We had James Arnold Taylor and David Kaye, the the voices of Ratchet and Clank, respectively, in to tell us what to expect from the adaptation of the popular game, teach us to be famous voiceover actors, and do some iconic movie moments as some of their most famous characters. Example: Marvel's J.A.R.V.I.S does the Inigo Montoya speech from Princes Bride. Take a look in the player above or below! I also hosted an event at Google for the movie recently for kids participating in the Project Lead the Way (a non-profit organization that develops Stem curricula for use by elementary, middle, and high schools) and a 'Femineers' program to encourage girls to learn and interact more with engineering and science.

Busy, loud and fast-paced, the animated video-game adaptation “Ratchet & Clank” — based on the Insomniac Games series pitting a crafty cat-like mechanic and a diminutive robot against a megalomaniacal villain — takes the PlayStation controls out of the gamer’s hands in search of all-scripted, feature-sized pizzazz for an interactive title that’s been around since the start of this century. As second-tier CG-styled animations go, this origin-retelling diversion from director Kevin Munroe (“Dylan Dog: Dead of Night”) is a serviceable action-and-humor-crammed space hero saga for kids. But as is usually the case with carefully engineered franchise movies with a reputation...

I’m “biast” (con): never hopeful about based-on-videogame movies

Ah, so there’s my answer, once again.
I was wondering how that standard movie philosophy still applied to me. You know, that standard movie philosophy that is not only the stuff but the actual stuffing of 99 percent of wish-fulfillment genre fantasy movies for decades now. I approached Ratchet & Clank with great anticipation. Can I do anything? Can I be anything I want to be? Am I destined for greatness, to save the world or even the whole galaxy even if I am a foolhardy, thoughtless, unfocused screwup with almost nothing to my name but maybe some undisciplined smarts and outsized aspirations to grandeur?...

Children can often times find inspiration from the most surprising and unexpected sources, especially those places that are usually believed to cause them the most intellectual harm. The new CG-animated movie, ‘Ratchet & Clank,’ which is based on the iconic 2002 PlayStation video game of the same name, is a gripping reminder of the importance of accepting yourself in a society that largely emphasizes the most superficial aspects of life. If we haven’t heard anything about a certain videogame movie in two years or more, it seems safe to assume that it’s quietly been binned. That’s why you won’t find the likes of BioShock, Devil May Cry, Far Cry, Gears Of War, Halo, Heavy Rain and Rollercoaster Tycoon on this list. If we get proven wrong on any of those, we’ll update this article as more information comes to light.

"When a galactic force threatens the world...! Test your gear, find your courage..." Focus has debuted a trailer for the CG animated Ratchet and Clank movie, adapted from the very popular and very amusing video game series of the same name. It's not exactly the most innovative video game adaptation, but I have to say, this looks crazy fun. James Arnold Taylor voices Ratchet, David Kaye voices Clank, and Jim Ward voices Captain Qwark, along with Bella Thorne, Sylvester Stallone, Rosario Dawson, John Goodman and Paul Giamatti all lending their voices to this, too. This is co-directed by the guy who made the Tmnt animated movie as well. Even if you're not a fan of the video game series, give this a quick watch. As we still wait and see if a great videogame-to-movie adaptation can exist, 2016 will be the true test. Before Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed arrive, Ratchet & Clank — a franchise that has been going strong in the video game world since the first game’s release in 2002, selling over 27 million copies worldwide and spawning a whole host of sequels and spin-offs — is getting the animated feature film treatment.

Ratchet and Clank The Movie got a whole bunch of celebrities to voice some new characters in the upcoming movie.
The cool thing behind the movie was that the original voice actors from the game are also doing the movie. James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet and David Kaye as Clank for example, but being honest they are not really big name brands. If it's one thing Hollywood knows, it's that if you attach a popular name to a movie it then creates easy marketing. Those celebrities then do interviews etc... and promote the movie.
Well that is what happened today as the studio behind the film has announced Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, Sylvester Stallone, and Rosario Dawson have all joined the cast of the movie for additional characters. The film is being directed by Kevin Munroe (Tmnt) and written by Tj Fixman, who wrote the series for Insomniac.

Sly Cooper is a CG animated feature film adaption of of PlayStation's video game of the same name. The story revolves around three friends led by the “gentleman thief” named Sly Cooper. It's being developed by Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment. It will be directed by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles director Kevin Munroe. Here's the official synopsis:

Now this looks awesome. Earlier today, screens from the upcoming Sly Cooper film adaptation landed on Facebook, and sent the internet a-twitter discussing its look and general art style. Though I don’t necessarily promote thoughtless conversion of source material to Dreamworks-like visual tomfoolery, a quick glance at the above teaser affirms that we probably don’t have too much to worry about in the looks department. Such fur shading!
The film will be penned by Tmnt writer Kevin Munroe, who also happens to be handling the upcoming Ratchet and Clank film adaptation. Both films are a collaboration between Blockade Entertainment and Rainmaker Entertainment, the latter of which is responsible for such classics as Barbie in the Nutcracker and Tony Hawk in Boom Boom Sabotage. Let’s just hope they know what they’re doing.
Will slick CG translate to a charming film that captures the spirit of the games?...

Director: Kevin Munroe. Writers: Thomas Dean Donnelly Joshua Oppenheimer, and Tiziano Sclavi. Cast: Brandon Routh, Anita Briem and Sam Huntington. Brandon Routh is one of those actors who shot up the ladder of fame thanks to Superman Returns. In Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, he's a sleuth, another comic-book hero, who tries to be slicker than oil. But he is hardly Dick Tracy as far as how this movie goes. Some fun can be found with this product, especially with the effects work, but these monsters do not try to stand out. The movie is just as good as The Spirit, and both are catering to a very select market. The colours used on the hero's costume makes for some simple motifs, but unlike previous films, it is not used to great effect. Instead, it is just a schtick, like how Clark Kent wore his clothes in "Smallville." At the same time,...

A new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan film has surfaced online, and it's a fairly impressive piece of work telling the origin story of Casey Jones, with some iconic comic book shots and homages to the franchise, and featuring good cinematography on what’s probably a relatively low budget.
Those involved, such as director Polarion Banks and star Hilarion Banks, have talent, though the specific storyline chosen, while well-told, holds the film back. Specifically, Casey Jones’ moral flaws undermine it.
Basically, despite the film’s merits, it’s too dark (thematically speaking), and not heroic enough. That is to say, not heroic enough in the true sense of the word. Casey Jones becomes a formidable and iconic figure over the course of the film, but although he fights evil, his methods mean he barely qualifies as a good guy.

A private investigator who chases cheating spouses, is brought back into the world of the paranormal after abandoning it when he takes on a client whose father was murdered by a creature of the night.
A pleasant, if not particularly distinguished or memorable, diversion. The word that singularly best describes Dylan Dog is “almost”. The proceedings are amusing , but if the pacing had been tighter Dylan Dog would have been much more exciting and fun. Brandon Routh makes for an alright hero, but he is never really given all that much to do. Routh gets to engage in plenty of action, but is never given any action sequences that really showcase him well. He is never given that big emotional scene that makes it so that his character resonates with viewers.

Remember when we told you all about the wonderful Italian Dylan Dog comic series from writer Tiziano Sclavi? It became a less than beloved feature film adaptation which was released on DVD earlier this month from director Kevin Munroe.
Well, we have obtained three copies of the perfect blend of sources as Munroe has autographed copies of Dark Horse Comics’ The Dylan Dog Case Files, an omnibus collecting Dylan Dog #1-6 and Dylan Dog: Zed. The book also has a cool Mike Mignola cover.
Between now and 11:59 p.m. Saturday, September 3, tell us what makes the international comic so good and we’ll pick the three best answers. The judgment of ComicMix will be final.

I first encountered the legend of Dylan Dog back when I was trying to cover foreign comics while at Comics Scene and then wrote about the film adaptation a while back over at Famous Monster of Filmland. A Pi in the world of things that go bump in the night sounded like a lot of fun. That the Italian comic has been running for decades also spoke to its creative spark and the genius of Tiziano Sclavi. Then I saw that this was going to Brandon Routh’s third film based on a comic book and figured he was 1 for 2 so far (entertaining in Scott Pilgrim, not served well by Superman Return’s lousy script) and might improve his average. He had certainly improved as an actor, as witnessed by Fear Itself and his recurring role on Chuck.
The trailers certainly made the movie look lighthearted and wonky, much like...

Directed by: Kevin Munroe
Cast: Brandon Routh, Taye Diggs, Sam Huntington
Running Time: 1 hr 50 min
Rating: PG-13
Due Out: July 26, 2011
Plot: Dylan Dog (Routh) investigates the supernatural, trying to keep the peace between vampires, werewolves, zombies and humans.
Who’S It For? If you like supernatural horror comedies that aren’t funny, you will love this movie!
Movie:
The filmmakers behind Dylan Dog did their homework, they must have seen a lot of other supernatural films and TV shows. I can tell because they copied what they saw all through the movie. Early on, a guy in a bar buys a “vampire blood drug”, yes, it’s totally True Blood. Later, the characters enter a zombie body parts warehouse that eerily recalls the waiting room for the recently deceased in Beetlejuice. And yeah, it just goes on like that. The Film:
The Italian comic series created by Tiziano Sclavi received an adaptation once before in the last great Italian film, Dellamorte Dellamore (aka Cemetery Man) in 1994. Although it was a loose translation, director Michele Soavi’s film is a wonder. It’s creepy, sexy, and darkly humorous, a rare blend of genre-bending that horror fans have properly applauded. While Dylan Dog: Dead of Night is a more strict adaptation of the comic, and is tonally different than Dellamorte Dellmore, but that doesn’t make it a lesser attempt, just a rather different one.
While it has a feeling of being rather small scale in scope, comparisons will happen and Dylan Dog is no Dellamorte Dellmore. Of course the most glaring omission is the lack of Anna Falchi’s amazingly perfect huge breasts, Dylan Dog doesn’t strike that surreal cord, but comes off as a creature feature in the...

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night played for about three weeks in the spring and is being released Tuesday by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment on Blu-ray. In an exclusive conversation with ComicMix, director Kevin Munroe talked about the experience.
Munroe first came to attention with his revival of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, released in 2007 as Tmnt and is absolutely no stranger to comics. “Yeah, I think I started with Sgt. Rock and then the European titles which I read growing up on the east coast of Canada. I read Tin Tin, Lucky Luke, Asterix then discovered Plastic Man, “he said.
An avid comic book fan, Munroe became an artist and found work storyboarding episodes of Nickelodeon’s Hey Arnold! before scripting and producing ABC Family’s Christmas special Donner. Comics weren’t far from his mind, though as he wound up writing Dark Horse Comics’ El Zombo Fantasma, with Dave Wilkins.

Paranormal crime scenes combined with comedic mishaps are all in a day’s work for New Orleans’ most surreptitious investigator in Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night. The producers of Terminator Salvation and Cowboys & Aliens introduce audiences to a whole new genre of dark fantasy filmmaking that blends crime-fighting and humor in this tongue-in-cheek supernatural horror in the spirit of Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead.

In 2007 the Kevin Munroe-directed Tmnt was meant to introduce the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise to a new, younger audience that wasn't around back in the early 90s while also appealing to fans of the original comic by making the tone a bit darker. Though the project moved away from the "guys in big foam suits" approach and featured some pretty cool animation, it was largely panned by critics and, while it made a profit, was fairly underwhelming at the box office. Still, it takes a lot for Hollywood to give up on a brand (just look at the X-Men franchise) so they will be trying again. Deadline reports that Paramount has hired Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec to script a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release the paranormal horror-comedy film Dylan Dog: Dead of Night starring Brandon Routh (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World) on Blu-ray and DVD on July 26.
Brandon Routh is paranormal private dick Dylan Dog.
Based on the Italian comic book series Dylan Dog by Tiziano Sclavi, the movie tells the tale of the titular New Orleans-based paranormal detective (Routh) whose clients include all manner of supernatural beasties, be they werewolves, vampires, zombies or even guardians of Hell. Enjoying a kind of semi-retirement, Dylan Dog is forced to return to work to solve an ugly murder that may be the tip of a monstrous approaching war between his clients and humankind!
Directed by Kevin Munroe (Tmnt) and co-starring Taye Diggs (Equilibrium), Sam Huntington (TV’s Being Human) and Peter Stormare (Small Town Murder Songs), the 2010 film was highly anticipated and I was really psyched to see it...
