Plot: Zee is a mysterious and infamous assassin known, and feared, in the Parisian underworld as the Queen of the Dead. But when, during an assignment from her shadowy mentor and handler, Zee refuses to kill a blinded young woman in a Paris nightclub, the decision will disintegrate Zee’s alliances, attract the attention of a savvy police investigator, and plunge her into a sinister criminal conspiracy that will set her on a collision course with her own past.

“The Killer” has returned.
John Woo’s 1989 action movie, which helped put the filmmaker on the map as one of cinema’s most exciting orchestrators of mayhem, has been remade by Woo himself. This time around, the titular assassin is played by Nathalie Emmanuel, with the dogged cop now played by Omar Sy.

Some people think remakes have to be as good as or even better than the original to be worth making, but that’s a high bar and it’s covered in vaseline. All a remake actually has to do is justify its own existence. Maybe it’s got a new style, maybe it’s got a new context, but either way there just needs to be some reason to watch this new version instead of the old one, at least once.
Unfortunately, the only reason I can think of to watch John Woo’s Peacock-exclusive remake of “The Killer” is because it’s the only version that’s currently available on streaming. It’s not good filmmaking and that’s not even good capitalism. The law of supply and demand falls apart when the only supply most people can access is of inferior quality.

John Woo’s Hollywood remake of his 1989 Heroic Bloodshed masterpiece The Killer, after languishing in development hell for almost as long as the original has existed, at long last sees the light of day. Relocating the setting from Hong Kong to Paris, Woo otherwise sticks to the original story, in which a contract killer, Zee (Nathalie Emmanuel), inadvertently blinds bystander Jenn (Diana Silvers) during a hit, and her refusal to murder the woman to tie up loose ends ultimately brings her into an unlikely alliance with a noble cop, Sey (Omar Sy).
Woo wastes little time showcasing his visual signatures, stuffing the first few minutes of The Killer, depicting Zee inside a church, with gliding tracking shots and low-angle compositions that immediately paint Zee and Sey as heroic. Oh, and there are doves—or, at least, one dove and two pigeons. The action also comes early and often, and Woo still delivers it with panache.

As the summer movie season comes to a close, August brings a shockingly stacked slate of offerings, topped by a film that is sure to age like a fine classic in years to come. Elsewhere we have accomplished debuts, action spectacles, and a thriller from the man who has recently returned to perfecting the formula.

John Woo is reimagining his 1989 Hong Kong classic The Killer for a new English-language remake, and he’s swapping the gender of the titular assassin.
Now, British actress Nathalie Emmanuel will take the lead as Woo’s multi-faceted action star, now named Zee instead of the original’s Ah Jong. The remake will also feature Sam Worthington, Diana Silvers, French actors Omar Sy, Grégory Montel, and Saïd Taghmaoui, and ’90s soccer icon-turned-actor Eric Cantona.
The trailer shows Zee at the height of her powers as an adept assassin in the Parisian underground, kicking ass and taking names — when she refuses to kill a young woman, however, she faces threats from both the Parisian police and local criminal organizations. “Never send boys to do a woman’s job,” Zee says amidst high-flying action and tension-ridden sequences.
The official logline reads, “The kinetic action thriller stars Nathalie Emmanuel as Zee, a mysterious and infamous assassin known,...

Here’s a nice summer surprise: a new action thriller directed by John Woo is arriving this August. Following up last year’s Silent Night, Woo has directed a reimagining of his own 1989 classic, The Killer. Scripted by Brian Helgeland, the update of the same name (which has nothing to do with David Fincher’s film from last year) stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Sam Worthington, Omar Sy, Diana Silvers, Saïd Taghmaoui, Tchéky Karyo, Eric Cantona, and Grégory Montel. Sadly relegated to just streaming, it’ll arrive on Peacock on August 23 and now the first images have arrived.
Here’s the synopsis: Nathalie Emmanuel is Zee, a mysterious and infamous assassin known, and feared, in the Parisian underworld as the Queen of the Dead. But when, during an assignment from her shadowy mentor and handler Finn (Sam Worthington), Zee refuses to kill a blinded young woman, Jenn (Diana Silvers), in a Paris nightclub,...

Thrusting a cold, hard badass into a domestic setting is a tried-and-true set-up for a mediocre family comedy. Big muscular tough guys like Vin Diesel (playing a Navy-Seal-turned-babysitter in 2005’s “The Pacifier”), Dave Bautista (as a CIA agent looking after a nine-year-old girl in 2020’s “My Spy”), and Dwayne Johnson (as an NFL-player-turned-sudden-father in 2007’s “The Game Plan”) have all starred in movies that follow this dusty formula to a tee.
And every one of these films flounders largely because they rest on a single joke (isn’t it funny that someone so masculine is looking after kids) that isn’t actually all that funny.
To its slight credit, Apple TV+’s new film “The Family Plan” downplays that type of humor significantly; its sole sort of original idea is that its wayward badass Dan didn’t have his domestic life thrust upon him; he actively loves being a dad,...

The Family Plan Movie Review Out! (Picture Credit: IMDb)
What’s Good: Mark Wahlberg‘s performance is a standout, seamlessly transitioning between action and comedy. The chemistry between Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan is palpable, contributing to the film’s likability. The concept of a family thrust into unexpected action adds a unique twist to the narrative.
What’s Bad: The film suffers from tonal inconsistencies, struggling to balance its comedic and action elements. Excessive and frenetic editing in the action scenes hampers their effectiveness. The script, while introducing entertaining concepts, falls short in execution, leaving some subplots feeling aimless and disconnected.

Remember Marky Mark? If you’re under a certain age, probably not, and Mark Wahlberg has some fun with that notion in the new trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ action-comedy The Family Plan.
In the film, Wahlberg plays a nice-guy suburban husband and father whose kids have no idea that he used to be a government assassin. The situation provides ample opportunity for lots of jokes about how incredulous the children are regarding their uncool dad’s formerly cool persona.
And if that’s not enough of a wink to viewers, Wahlberg actually does some rapping in the comedy. Watch the trailer above to see how director Simon Cellan Jones and writer David Coggeshall work that into the story.

And if that’s not enough of a wink to viewers, Wahlberg actually does some rapping in the comedy. Watch the trailer above to see how director Simon Cellan Jones and writer David Coggeshall work that into the story.

Mark Wahlberg plays a quiet suburban dad who takes his family on a road trip to Las Vegas to protect them after his cover as a former elite government assassin is blown in the trailer for The Family Plan, which dropped on Monday ahead of a Apple TV+ bow for the action comedy on Dec. 15.
Wahlberg stars as Dan Morgan, a father who happily changes diapers and sells cars, until he is tracked down by former enemies and has to pack his wife, played by Michelle Monaghan, teen son and daughter and 10-month-old baby into their minivan for a surprise cross-country trip.
“Nothing brings a family together like a road trip,” Dan tells his unsuspecting wife. But once on the road, he finally tells his family their lives are in danger.

Arnold Schwarzenegger may have set the standard of an action-tough guy making an unlikely family comedy that features him taking care of children. The comedic dynamic of said concept has so much potential that many have tried their hand at it, including Vin Diesel in The Pacifier, Dwayne Johnson in The Game Plan, Jackie Chan in The Spy Next Door and Dave Bautista in My Spy. Mark Wahlberg is throwing his hat in the ring for AppleTV+’s The Family Plan, which just released its first trailer. The family film os set to release on December 15.
According to People, Wahlberg plays “a suburban dad and car salesman named Dan Morgan — whose secret past as an elite government assassin comes back to haunt him.” The synopsis continues, “When enemies from his past track him down, Dan packs his unsuspecting wife (Michelle Monaghan), angsty teen daughter, pro-gamer teen son and adorable 10-month-old...

"You're like James Bond in a minivan?" Apple TV has revealed an official trailer for The Family Plan, a big action comedy from the streaming network heading directly to streaming in December at the end of the year. No theatrical release for this one. How's this for a story we've seen so many times before that they're rehashing once again: A former top assassin living incognito as a suburban dad must take his unsuspecting family on the run when his past catches up to him. Isn't this similar to Taken or True Lies all over again? Determined to protect his family — while treating them to the vacation of a lifetime — Dan must put his long-dormant skills into action, without revealing his true identity. Mark Wahlberg stars with Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Colletti, Van Crosby, Saïd Taghmaoui, Maggie Q, and Ciarán Hinds as the lead bad guy. Of course this looks super cheesy,...

The world of John Wick is a dark and underground criminal society full of assassins who abide by a strict code of conduct and hierarchy. The High Table is a council of crime lords that rule the criminal world, and their word is absolute law. The Continental is not just a hotel, but a network of facilities and services for assassins, with branch managers who have complete authority over Continental business.
The world of John Wick has expanded considerably throughout the four movies and spin-off series, so having the John Wick universe explained can be tricky. John Wick first introduced audiences to a dark, polished, and sharply dressed, underground criminal society full of assassins who (mostly) abide by an unspoken code of conduct and two explicit rules. Several movie sequels have had to recast major characters for one reason or another. Sometimes it's because the original actor is busy with another project, doesn't want to do the sequel, or has passed away. Sometimes it's because the filmmakers want to take the character in a different direction. Sometimes a character's age prevents the original actor from reprising their role.
Famous examples of a character being recast include James Bond and Jack Ryan, who have both now gone through several different actors in various sequels and reboots. Marvel has recast several characters, including replacing Edward Norton with Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / The Hulk between The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers. Several more recent films have also recast major characters.

John Wick: Chapter 4’s Elder twist means that John Wick 5 can finally deliver on the franchise’s failed villain promise. John Wick 4 recast the Elder after the head of the High Table made his debut in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, except that it was not a simple recast but rather a change that was incorporated into the story. George Georgiou played a different version of the Elder in John Wick 4 from the one Saïd Taghmaoui played in John Wick 3, establishing that the Elder was never a name but instead a title.
Whether John Wick 5 will happen is difficult to say, but there are more than enough storylines for a possible fifth entry to dive into. Even though John Wick dies in Chapter 4, the John Wick universe’s hyperrealism could make a surprising Keanu Reeves’ John...

Warning: Contains Spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 4John Wick: Chapter 4 features a new Elder following the death of the previous Elder, and it perfectly sets up a new villain in the franchise. Warning: Contains Spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 4!
Among all the deaths and action in the John Wick movies, John Wick: Chapter 4 includes various Easter eggs and hidden details that are easy to miss. The Keanu Reeves franchise is not based on an existing IP of any kind, as it instead takes its influence from a variety of genres to craft a wholly original mythology. The films have continued to expand the established world, bring back key characters in John's life, and introduce more layers of the assassin universe. Since the overall story of the John Wick movies is so tightly tied together, that gives each new installment plenty of opportunities to reference what came before.
There are a variety of opportunities for John Wick 4's Easter eggs and important references to occur. The story takes place across multiple continents, countries, and cities as John Wick goes to war with the High Table.

On March 24, Lionsgate released “John Wick: Chapter 4,” the fourth installment of the Keanu Reeves-led franchise. John Wick uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.
With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%, critics are raving, “‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ piles on more of everything — and suggests that when it comes to a well-dressed Keanu Reeves dispatching his enemies in lethally balletic style, there can never be too much.”
In addition to Reeves, the returning cast includes Laurence Fishburne as underworld boss the Bowery King, Lance Reddick as Continental Hotel concierge Charon, and Ian McShane as Winston Scott, the manager of the Continental Hotel who betrayed John at the end of “Chapter 3.” New cast members include Bill Skarsgård as the Marquis de Gramont,...

Keanu Reeves has recalled making some dangerous mistakes while filming John Wick 4.
The Canadian actor, 58, returns to the action film franchise as legendary assassin John Wick, who travels the world to track down the most powerful players in the criminal underworld.
As with all three previous films, the newest, lengthy three-hour instalment includes numerous stunt sequences.
Speaking to ComicBook.com in a new interview, Reeves discussed some of the accidents that occurred on set as a result.
“In terms of accidents: I made a mistake once – I cut a gentleman’s head open,” he said. “So that really f***ing sucked, excuse my language.”

John Wick 4 would missed out on a beautiful sunrise shot if it hadn’t been for the King of Jordan’s helping hand.
The popular action franchise’s newest entry sees legendary assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) go international, travelling across the globe to seek out the most powerful players in the underworld.
In order to shoot one of the movie’s scenes – in which Wick returns to the Moroccan desert to confront The Elder (Saïd Taghmaoui), whom he first encountered in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum – the crew filmed on location in Jordan.
However, according to director Chad Stahelski, the aerial shots needed of the desert wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for the King of Jordan.

In "John Wick: Chapter 2," there is a scene where Keanu Reeves' titular assassin meets with a man simply known as the Sommelier, played by Peter Serafinowicz. His speciality is not wine, though. It's guns. And the Sommelier goes onto present Wick with a smorgasbord of firearms as if he was recommending them for a multi-course meal of violence. When I saw the film back in February 2017, each presentation of a new gun accompanied by lines referring to them as "robust" or "dessert" generated a delighted guffaw from the audience. Meanwhile, I was squirming in my seat.
I hate guns. Living in the United States, a day doesn't pass where some horrific tragedy occurs involving a gun. To me, they are instruments of chaos and destruction, and the way so many people in this country fetishize and obsess over their weapons disturbs me deeply. I grew up with a fairly conservative father,...

With certain films, some things are best left to the imagination. And while action extravaganzas like "John Wick: Chapter 4" will probably benefit from the element of surprise, it's hard to resist poring over every new trailer, poster, and interview released to promote the film. Lionsgate has since treated "Wick" fans to a particularly stunning trailer back in November, and now the final trailer for "John Wick: Chapter 4" is finally upon us. With the film's release date steadily creeping up, it can't hurt to get a little taste of what's in store this time around. There's lots to speculate over in this new trailer, so let's jump right in.
'And So It Begins'
The "Chapter 4" trailer begins exactly where the franchise's last installment left off — just with one interesting twist. "John Wick: Chapter 3 -- Parabellum" saw John (Keanu Reeves) completely betrayed by one of his oldest allies, Winston...

Keanu Reeves is back in action with a new John Wick: Chapter 4 trailer. The sequel will pick up with Reeves' titular assassin, still alive after being seemingly betrayed by Ian McShane's Winston, as he learns of a way to finally overcome The High Table and earn his freedom once and for all. Alongside Reeves, the star-studded cast for John Wick: Chapter 4 includes Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, McShane, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, Lance Reddick, Clancy Brown, Shamier Anderson and George Georgiou.
With just over a month remaining until the film's arrival, Lionsgate have unveiled the final John Wick: Chapter 4 trailer.
The video highlights more of the epic action coming from the fourquel as Reeves' beloved protagonist fights his way through more rival assassins as he battles his way both to freedom and to his ultimate target, Skarsgård's The Marquis de Gramont. The trailer also spotlights the...

The searing drama The Forgiven is being released on DVD & Blu-ray on 12th December and to celebrate we are giving away a Blu-ray. Written by John Michael McDonagh and based on the bestselling book by Lawrence Osborne, The Forgiven is an unflinching look at the perils of Great Gatsby-esque Western decadence that recalls the likes of White Mischief and The Sheltering Sky, and Variety describes as a “thorny modern parable”.
Award-winning director McDonagh has lined up a formidable cast for his powerful tale of tragedy and redemption set in Morocco. Leading actors Ralph Fiennes (BAFTA-winner for Schindler’s List) and Jessica Chastain (Oscar-winner for The Eyes of Tammy Faye) are joined by Matt Smith (House of the Dragon), Christopher Abbott (Possessor), Abby Lee (The Neon Demon), Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out) and Saïd Taghmaoui (Wonder Woman) for a compulsive drama that plays out against a foreboding desert backdrop.
