The unresolved case of JonBenét Ramsey has been the subject of countless documentaries and dramatic television retellings throughout the last 28 years. The latest content about the case is Netflix’s “Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey” — a three-part docuseries about the 6-year-old child beauty queen who was brutally murdered on Dec. 26, 1996, in Boulder, Colo.

JonBenét’s parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, woke up the morning after Christmas in 1996 and discovered a ransom note in their kitchen. Later that same day, John Ramsey found his daughter’s body in the basement, revealing that JonBenét had not been kidnapped but was instead sexually assaulted and killed in the family home. Soon after, the Boulder police, who had little experience in homicide investigations, quickly turned their suspicions toward the Ramsey family, igniting a media frenzy that painted JonBenét’s parents as the prime suspects.

Colin Chilvers, a pioneering, Oscar-winning Hollywood visual effects artist who created movie magic for Superman, apocalyptic scenarios and even The Who’s Tommy, died November 19 in Fort Erie, Ontario, where he lived. He was 79.

His death was first reported Wednesday by the news station 101.1 FM in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Among Chilvers’ more memorable feats were the effects that gave Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder the illusion of flying in Richard Donner’s 1978 classic Superman, work that had him share in a team Oscar for Visual Effects.

In 1986, Chilvers created the dazzling trickery that allowed Michael Jackson to defy gravity by leaning forward 45 degrees with no visible means of support in the music video for “Smooth Criminal.” Chilvers directed the video, along with various other Jackson video collections.

Chilvers’ post-Superman credits from the ’80s through the 2000s also included Superman 2 and Superman 3, Bride of Chucky, X-Men and K-19: The Widowmaker.

Oscar nominee Clive Owen is set to play a police office in Germany on the brink of WWII in historical thriller “Kristallnacht.”

The feature — being launched at the American Film Market by International Film Trust — comes from Oscar-winning filmmaker Stefan Ruzowitzky, who will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Julius Grützke, based on an original script by Jonathan Frank and Scott Mann.

“Kristallnacht” was announced by Michael Benaroya, the CEO of Benaroya Pictures and co-founder of International Film Trust, who will serve as producer alongside Danny Krausz, Marcelo Gandola and Daniel Zuta.

Exclusive: The death of JonBenét Ramsey, the child beauty queen who was killed in her family home in Colorado, has dominated headlines for nearly 30 years.

Director Joe Berlinger is reopening the case in a new three-part series for Netflix.

The streamer has ordered Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey, which will revisit the case with fresh eyes and perspective and features interviews with key people from the crime and investigation, including JonBenét’s father, John Ramsey.

Berlinger has directed true-crime docs including Netflix’s Conversations with a Killer strand that has told the stories of Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer as well Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills. The latter is widely considered responsible for helping to get three teenagers – the West Memphis Three – out of jail in the case.

French media executive Romain Bessi, who as Variety exclusively announced has been named CEO of the alliance of independent production companies known as the Creatives, said on Tuesday that the group is now searching for financing that will allow it not only to remain competitive in a difficult market but to continue to grow its reach.

“We need to invest in people, in development. We need to invest in a few things in order to grow faster and grow stronger,” Bessi told an industry audience at Rome’s Mia Market. “For that, we need a partner. We don’t want to sell the Creatives. The latest addition to the show is three-time Emmy winner Margo Martindale (The Americans, Justified). She’ll recur as Nedra, the mother of Patsy Ramsey (Melissa McCarthy) and grandmother to JonBenét. The character is described as “tough, blunt, outspoken, and unafraid to speak her mind.”
