Lucasfilm is reportedly working on a live-action project set in the Knights of the Old Republic era, according to industry insider Daniel Richtman. This timeline takes place about 4,000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire and became a fan favorite after the 2003 video game introduced its rich story.
In 2019, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed they were exploring ideas related to Knights of the Old Republic, saying, “Yes, we are developing something to look at,” though she didn’t share any details.
Recent rumors suggest that work on this project started before the recent industry strikes and is expected to continue now that the strikes have ended, aligning with Richtman’s report.
It’s still unclear if this project will be a movie or a Disney+ series, though Richtman’s rumor suggests a series is more likely. In the past, writer Laeta Kalogridis was reportedly working on a script, but...

Lucasfilm is reportedly working on a live-action project set in the Knights of the Old Republic era, popular industry insider Daniel Richtman reports. This period takes place about 4,000 years before the Galactic Empire’s rise. The original 2003 video game introduced us to this rich timeline, which soon became one of the most popular ones.

Recent rumors suggest that a project based on this era was being developed before the industry strikes and is expected to resume once the strikes conclude, which is in line with Richtmnan’s Patreon post.

When James Cameron’s Alita: Battle Angel hit theaters in 2019, it brought Yukito Kishiro’s beloved manga to life in a dazzlingly ambitious way. Directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by Cameron, the film delivered a high-octane, cyberpunk adventure, complete with cutting-edge visuals and a story that fans fell in love with. Fans especially loved Rosa Salazar's portrayal of Alita, a cyborg getting through the dangerous Iron City, and the story left audiences hungry for more. But, five years later, the long-awaited sequel remains a "what if".
Despite its moderate box office success, Alita: Battle Angel has found a new surge in popularity on Netflix, where it climbed to the platform’s Global Top 10 charts in November 2024. The renewed interest shows that Alita's story still has many fans who love it. But with no concrete sequel plans on the horizon, fans are left wondering why Hollywood's best anime adaptation remains incomplete.

It’s always interesting to see big time directors go against type and into a genre we don’t necessarily associate them with. We have Mount Rushmore type horror directors like John Carpenter and Wes Craven giving us thoughtful entries into their catalogues like Starman and Music of the Heart. On the flip side of that, what happens when a director known for Oscar worthy drama, gangster, and period piece movies goes all in on a scary movie? How did that movie miss out on any major awards nominations even with it being considered prestige horror? How many different adaptations of Denis Lehane’s novel would we get? Take the boat over before the storm hits as we find out what happened to Shutter Island.
Denis Lehane is an American author who began writing in the early 1990s. While he had success with a series of novels with repeating characters early,...

A James Cameron-produced $405 million action movie has landed on Netflix's global chart five years later. Cameron is one of the most commercially successful filmmakers of all time, having written and directed Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Titanic three of the top five highest-grossing films of all time. Collectively, James Cameron's movies have made over $8 billion worldwide, making him the second-highest-grossing director of all time behind Steven Spielberg, though Cameron has only directed 13 movies to Spielberg's 34.
Cameron occasionally produces and pens projects that he doesn't direct. That Time Gal Gadot Faced Controversy Over Her Casting as Cleopatra—Here’s How She Responded to the Backlash! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Gal Gadot‘s casting as Cleopatra sparked controversies on race and representation in Hollywood. Her 2020 announcement resulted in excitement and echoed criticism from past portrayals, notably Elizabeth Taylor’s in the 1963 Cleopatra—while Netflix’s Queen Cleopatra faced backlash over its casting choices.
The anticipation surrounding Gadot’s Cleopatra was palpable. Teaming up with filmmaker Patty Jenkins and screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis, she wanted to tell Cleopatra’s story from a woman’s perspective. The project saw delays, but Gadot remained optimistic. She told Flaunt, “It’s a big task. I don’t want to [rush] making it— it needs…so much thought and care because it’s Cleopatra.” Her commitment to portraying the queen with the depth she deserved was evident.

It’s very apropos that a franchise about timelines and time travel would continuously go back and try to erase their mistakes to begin anew. This is exactly what the Terminator franchise has done repeatedly in an attempt to find a worthy successor to what many consider the greatest action film of all time, Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Today’s film is more of a hodge podge of different ideas coming together to remake, reimagine, and give honor to, while getting rid of….you know what? It’s a mess. A decade before Knight and Day was released, a movie like it would have killed with audiences: Come on, it starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and looked to perfectly mash humor and action in a way that so few male/female-led action-comedies had for years. Yet, it didn’t connect. But why? There are a lot of reasons, really, and not just, as Roy Miller would say, “one of those things.” Through lousy marketing, hokey promotion, poorly timed sneak previews, and even Katie Holmes, Knight and Day fizzled, less “beautiful dress” than beautiful mess…But it did at least inspire a Bollywood remake, so suck on that, Vanilla Sky! Let’s find out: What Happened to this Movie?!
Knight and Day began, as with so many Hollywood screenplays, as a spec script, or a work that is uncommissioned but written in hopes of selling it to a studio (think...

Walt Disney Studios has had a pretty abysmal year at the international box office in 2023. Between Ant-Man: Quantumania, The Little Mermaid, Elemental, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and perhaps most disappointing, The Marvels, the typically successful movie studio has lost an ungodly amount of money by producing overly expensive feature films that failed to resonate among the masses and earn back their financial investments. If the studio isn’t careful and the trend continues, Disney could break another record for the all-time biggest box-office bomb on record.
Speaking of which, what would your answer be if you had to guess Disney’s most notorious financial flop of all time? Well, up until recently, the correct response would have been John Carter, the disastrous 2012 adaptation of Edgar Rice Boroughs’ A Princes of Mars. However, after tallying up the receipts in 2023, Disney’s most infamous box office failure now belongs to The Lone Ranger,...

The Gal Gadot Cleopatra movie is taking a long time to develop because the filmmakers want to represent Cleopatra's story respectfully. The film has faced controversy over the casting of Gal Gadot and accusations of white-washing, but Gadot defends her casting and emphasizes the historical accuracy of Cleopatra's ethnicity as Macedonian. The upcoming movie plans to focus not only on Cleopatra's appeal but also on her strategic capabilities and the impact she had on the world, aiming to tell a story that is relevant to today's world.
A fair amount of Gal Gadot Cleopatra movie news has been coming down the pipeline, both causing controversy and garnering a fair amount of anticipation. The famed ancient Egyptian queen has been depicted on the screen many times before but was most famously portrayed (and whitewashed) by actress Elizabeth Taylor in the eponymous 1963 historical epic. Gadot acknowledges the importance of taking time to accurately portray Cleopatra as a historical figure and emphasizes the need for thought and care in the process. Cleopatra's legacy as a strong leader and her significant contributions to politics, arts, and sciences make her portrayal in the movie a matter of great importance. The controversy surrounding Gadot's casting and the potential misinterpretation of Cleopatra's history highlight the need for the movie to avoid false narratives and handle the complex history of Cleopatra with care.
Gal Gadot gives an update on her upcoming Cleopatra movie and explains it takes time to respectfully depict a historical figure such as Cleopatra. Gadot, who is best known for starring in the DC Extended Universe as Wonder Woman and in the Fast & Furious franchise, has been tied to Cleopatra since 2020. Though it's unclear where the movie sits in its development, Gal Gadot is sharing her excitement about the Cleopatra movie and bringing justice to its main historical figure. Gadot signed on to produce and star the latest biographical epic for the Egyptian queen in late 2020, with the initial plan to reunite with Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins directing. Jenkins eventually shifted to solely a producer role to focus on future projects, leading to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Kari Skogland signing on to direct.
During a recent interview with Vogue Hong Kong for their July issue cover story, Gal Gadot offered some insight on the long-gestating and controversial Cleopatra movie. The actor and producer shared her excitement for getting to explore the historical figure, namely in bringing justice to the false narratives surrounding her. Check out what Gadot shared below:

There might still be hope for Altered Carbon season 3, according to showrunner and writer Alison Schapker. Based on the novel of the same name by Richard K. Morgan, the cyberpunk show first debuted on the streaming platform on February 2018, and was eventually canceled by Netflix after Altered Carbon season 2. Following the character of dead prisoner and war vet Takeshi Kovacs, who, after 250 years, returns to life in a new body and is offered freedom by helping a titan of industry solve his own (future) murder, the show explores themes of technology, human-machine interface, gender identity, cyberspace, paranoia, power, and corruption.
Schapker got her first big break working with J.J. Abrams as a staff writer on hit ABC show Alias, before moving on to work on a slew of successful TV shows, including Charmed, Lost, and sci-fi show Fringe. In July 2018, Schapker joined Altered Carbon as an executive producer and co-showrunner,...

The show’s second season set the stage for Altered Carbon season 3 with a burgeoning revolution storyline, but that third season has yet to happen.

"Shutter Island" is one of those movies that doesn't get old with numerous viewings, even if you know the film's twist. Of course, that can be said by several of Martin Scorsese's films. Adapted by screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis from the 2003 novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane, "Shutter Island" was one of the more successful films of 2010. In this psychological neo-noir, Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Deputy U.S. Marshal Edward "Teddy" Daniels, a man with a dark past who is investigating a missing patient case on the remote island that houses an infamous psychiatric facility.
The narrative sets Teddy up as the protagonist and a voice of reason. However, as he gets deeper and deeper into the case, Teddy and the audience themselves begin to question how accurate the character's perception of reality truly is. "Shutter Island" is a strong, visual example of a story about an unreliable...

Fremantle has deepened its relationship with Artists, Writers & Artisans, Inc. (Awa) by making a minority investment in the company.
Fremantle had struck a strategic development deal with Awa Studios, the film and television division of Awa, last year.
Awa is backed by James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems, Sister, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. In 2021, the company established Awa Studios, helmed by Hollywood veteran Zach Studin as president. Marvel alum Axel Alonso serves as co-founder and chief creative officer overseeing editorial output. Matthew Anderson, co-chair and president and Jon Miller, co-founder and co-chair, lead Awa’s executive team.
The two companies have revealed that the first project on the joint development slate after Fremantle taking a stake in Awa is “Devil’s Highway,” a thriller based on the comic series by Benjamin Percy and Brent Schoonover in which a young woman seeks to unravel a sinister mystery hidden in the dark underbelly of the long-haul trucking industry.

Beyond fundraising, they advised candidates on speeches and overall messaging. In the end, 21 of the 30 candidates that the group supported in 2018 won their elections.
Two years ago, the trio was back in action in the 2020 election. Together with Altered Carbon creator Laeta Kalogridis and S.W.A.T. executive producer Shawn Ryan, they created what amounted to a political content studio, making more than 150 commercials, such as a high-profile ad which featured clips from Ronald Reagan’s “Shining City on a Hill” speech. Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s “Wonder Woman” reunion will have to wait.
Jenkins has relinquished directing duties for “Cleopatra,” a historical drama featuring Gadot as the legendary queen of Egypt. Kari Skogland, who recently directed Marvel’s TV series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” is taking over filmmaking duties.

Jenkins isn’t departing the project entirely. She will remain involved in a producing role as she pivots attention to her next two projects, “Wonder Woman 3” for Warner Bros. and “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron” for Disney and Lucasfilm.
Paramount Pictures is backing “Cleopatra,” which remains in development stages at the studio. Paramount won the rights to the project last year, reportedly beating out Apple, Universal, Warner Bros. and Netflix.

Exclusive: Following the massive success of directing Marvel series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Kari Skogland looks to have found her next film project and will be teaming up with another superhero star in the process. Sources tell Deadline that Skogland is set to direct Paramount’s Cleopatra, starring Gal Gadot.
Skogland steps in for Patty Jenkins, who was attached to direct and is pivoting to a producing role. Jenkins fell off as director so she could focus on her next two projects: Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
Paramount won the rights to the hot package last fall to the biographical drama scripted by Laeta Kalogridis. The film will be produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven, Jenkins, Gadot and her Pilot Wave Motion Pictures partner Jaron Varsano. Kalogridis will be the exec producer.

After years of rumors, reports, and leaks, Lucasfilm Games finally has a new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game in the pipeline. Mind you, it isn’t the threequel most players hoped for, but a remake of the original, spearheaded by Aspyr, the veteran studio that’s spent the last few years porting Star Wars classics to modern consoles, including next-gen and mobile versions of Knights of the Old Republic and its beloved sequel. But a remake of one of the best Star Wars games ever made is a different challenge altogether.
Much will be said about what should and shouldn’t be tweaked about BioWare’s seminal RPG for a modern re-telling — in fact, we have some thoughts ourselves. But the remake raises other questions, too. For example, will the remake finally make this beloved era of Star Wars an official part of the Disney canon?
