Julia Stiles’ recital of that emotional poem in 10 Things I Hate About You may have cued the waterworks, but she admits it was never supposed to be that emotional in the first place.
In an interview with Bustle released Wednesday, the actress and director of Wish You Were Here reflected on her breakout role as Kat Stratford in the teen rom-com in which she and Heath Ledger’s Patrick Verona fall in love. In one scene in particular, Stiles’ Kat recites an emotional poem to Ledger’s Patrick in which she expresses her heartbreak and feelings for him as she offers 10 things she “hates” about him.
“In the table read with the whole cast, I kind of just read it without any emotion and I do remember the director saying, ‘She’ll be more emotional next time,’ so maybe that sunk in,” Stiles recalled of the poem scene.

Christopher Nolan has developed a reputation for playing with non-linear structures and time travel in his movies, but there are plenty of other filmmakers who explore similar themes. Many of Christopher Nolan's best movies deploy non-linear structures in one way or another, like Memento's reverse plot thread or Oppenheimer's concurrent portrayal of the past and the future. Other movies explore time travel more explicitly, like Tenet and Interstellar.
With the news that Christopher Nolan's next movie is an adaptation of The Odyssey, it will be interesting to see how he leaves his own mark on a story that has been passed down through generations. One possibility is that he will chop up the structure to his own liking. This would be a bold move for such a revered classic, but Nolan frequently devises non-linear structures that enhance his movies, rather than coming across as mere gimmicks. Other great directors,...

Accusations that long-running comedy shows have lifted material from internet sketches isn’t all that uncommon, just as long as the show is Saturday Night Live. But South Park, on the other hand, rarely faces charges of plagiarism. But the animated series did steal verbatim dialogue from an online comedy video one time — although it was apparently a complete accident.
The 2010 episode “Insheeption” parodied the Christopher Nolan blockbuster Inception, which had come out that summer. But in the South Park version, Leonardo DiCaprio and his crew of gun-toting mercenaries enters Stan and Mr. Mackey’s dreams while a doctor is attempting to cure them of their hoarding problems. Oh, and Freddy Krueger is there, too.
The show pulls a lot of its material directly from Inception, including a healthy dose of convoluted nonsense about dream levels and limbo, all accompanied by acapella “BWAAHs!”

Many entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC's movies have ended with climactic fight scenes, and some of them left a huge mark. There is a formula when it comes to superhero movies, and it often leads to a major final fight. These can be between heroes and villains — the traditional route — or between heroes, a balance that the McU's best movies and DC's top films have worked with.
A big finale is a must for superhero films. However, final fights do not have to be all about scale. A movie can leave a mark with a more personal fight between characters the audience cares about, which is often as effective or even more than large-scale conflicts. Throughout the last few decades, Marvel and DC have brought a slew of gripping final fights to the big screen. The McU's upcoming movies and James Gunn's DC Universe can learn...

Outside of becoming one of the many faces of Marvel, Scarlett Johansson has always been quite the icon in the romance genre. She has played many love interests and starred in many rom-coms before she moved to the type of films she makes today.

Among these many films was Don Jon; a film where she played the love interest to Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s titular character. In this, she has several iconic scenes, including the one in front of her apartment.
It would seem that this scene was very frustrating and complicated for the stars to film.

In Don Jon, there is one point in the film where Barbara and Don end up getting intimate outside of her home. The scene has gained some recognition over the years, especially because their clothes stay on throughout the entire sequence.

Though he’s worked steadily in TV and film since the early 2000s, Alan Ritchson got his claim to fame playing ex-military cop Jack Reacher in Amazon Prime Video’s original series, Reacher. Based on the books by Lee Child, Reacher is packed with action-fueled sequences and features a heroic protagonist reminiscent of a knight in shining armor from old storybooks. Now, in Ritchson's upcoming movie, Motor City, he is going against type (sort of).
Taking place in 1970s Detroit, Motor City is a gritty tale of revenge that will still have plenty of action, but this time Ritchson’s character is only out for blood and revenge. While there’s not a whole lot of info pertaining to the Alan Ritchson movie just yet, there’s enough to know that audiences are in for a wild ride.

Christopher Nolan has collaborated with numerous talented actors over the course of his multi-decade career. Even his superhero movie films The Dark Knight trilogy featured A-list talent. The Dark Knight earned Joker actor Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, recognizing a performance that has become one of the most iconic villain roles of all time. Nolan went on to make Inception, which starred incredible talent such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, and Marion Cotillard.
The strength of a Nolan movie ensemble was especially recognized in last year's Oppenheimer. The epic biopic was nominated for numerous awards for its performances, winning Oscars for Best Actor for Murphy and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. Nolan's next movie, which will be an adaptation of The Odyssey, will be no exception when it comes to top-tier casting, as early news has mentioned the casting of Tom Holland,...

No live-action DC movie released so far has attempted what the fourth Dark Knight installment, Batman: Gotham Knight, achieved. To say that Christopher Nolan's highly-acclaimed The Dark Knight trilogy was incredibly influential for the superhero genre and Hollywood filmmaking as a whole would be an understatement. Not only did The Dark Knight trilogy offer one of the most beloved villain performances in Heath Ledger's Joker, but it also proved that comic book adaptations could thrive on the big screen as high-quality cinema.
Although Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy was a massive hit at the box office, its chances of becoming a cinematic universe were slim from the start. Nolan envisioned the trilogy as a grounded, self-contained story with a well-defined beginning, middle, and end. Hence, there were never plans for a fourth Dark Knight movie, and despite the passing of the torch teased in The Dark Knight Rises' ending sequence,...

Akira, the 1988 cyberpunk anime film, has become a classic that has inspired a great number of future productions. The combination of cyberpunk dystopia with the alienation of the youth and the visual fest combine to justify the huge profits that the movie earned at the time of its release.
Over the years, Akira has become a classic movie and a must-watch for movie connoisseurs. Only a handful of other movies are as genre-defining as Akira. Thus, the film has set the groundwork for many other creations, including one of Bruce Willis’ most popular films, Looper.

What are the 10 worst movies of 2024? There has been some debate about whether you should write an article listing the “10 Worst Films of 2024.” For me, I think it’s imperative to keep studios in check. Yes, it was an excellent year for film, and you can read our ranking of “The 20 Best Movies of 2024” as well, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t a few cinematic experiences so awful they made you regret your most precious resource: time.
Yes, some misfires had their hearts in the right place. However, most were intentionally bad and ploys to steal your money and your sanity. Check out our list and let us know if you agree.

When "10 Things I Hate About You" was released in 1999, it featured a cast of swoon-worthy young stars. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who wasn't sold on the movie at first), Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Larisa Oleynik were the film's core four, but the supporting cast was rounded out by actors like Gabrielle Union, David Krumholtz, Andrew Keegan, and Allison Janney, and everyone delivers a fun performance. The contemporary movie is actually an adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic play "The Taming of the Shrew," setting the romantic comedy at a modern high school instead of the olden days. It's about a pretty girl named Bianca (Oleynik) who isn't allowed to date until her uptight older sister Kat (Stiles) is taken; as a result, Cameron (Gordon-Levitt) pays the rambunctious Patrick (Ledger) to woo Kat. Hijinks ensue.

This heartwarming dramedy follows a chaotic family reunion when the eldest son brings home his uptight girlfriend. With a stellar cast, including Diane Keaton and Rachel McAdams, it balances humor and poignant moments beautifully.
2. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)
A Christmas movie for those who love crime, dark humor, and Robert Downey Jr. This Shane Black-directed neo-noir comedy is witty, unconventional, and full of holiday spirit in the quirkiest way possible.
3. Arthur Christmas (2011)
This animated film by Aardman Animations is a delightful take on the magic of Christmas, following Santa’s clumsy son, Arthur, as he tries to deliver a forgotten gift. It’s heartfelt, visually stunning, and criminally overlooked.

At the 2021 Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis, host Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivered this classic joke: "I loved 'The Sixth Sense.' It's a great movie. And the ending, I did not see that twist coming ... At the end of 'The Sixth Sense,' Bruce goes back to making sh***y movies."
It's funny because, well, it's sort of true: "The Sixth Sense" is widely considered one of the last truly good Bruce Willis movies. Sure, he gave some fun performances in "Lucky Number Slevin" and "Moonrise Kingdom," but the spooky 1999 M. Night Shyamalan drama was pretty much the last time Willis was the leading man in a massive critical and commercial hit.
On IMDb, "The Sixth Sense" has an 8.2 rating, ranking it 144th among the site's top 250 list of best-ranked movies. It's not a surprising placement, given how influential it became in pop culture. People were quoting "I...

The following contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew."
"Treasure Planet" is historic for being Disney's biggest animated flop at the time of its release, but the film's legacy lives on in the year 2024 thanks to the "Star Wars" franchise. Inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island," Disney's sci-fi swashbuckler tells the story of Jim Hawkins (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a teen adventurer who's obsessed with finding the titular planet that hides legendary space pirate Captain Flint's stolen gold. "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" episode 4 also borrows ideas from the rip-roaring space adventure -- in a way, the plot of the Disney+ series recalls Flint raiding planets and stealing their treasure (in a good way).
At Attin is one of the most mysterious "Star Wars" planets, and that sentiment gains more credibility in "Skeleton Crew" episode 4. After Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) and the show's young heroes...

There are a lot of epic sci-fi movies that have graced the silver screen over the decades. From box-office-breaking dystopian sagas like "The Matrix" to mind-bending emotional masterpieces like "Interstellar," the genre doesn't lack variety, even at the top of its ever-growing library of content. But which sci-fi movie is the best? What movie is the absolute highest rated? What science fiction film rules them all? We went to IMDb to find out what their users had to say, and it turns out that a tried and true Christopher Nolan classic rests atop the list — but it's not "Interstellar" that shines out. It's "Inception."

Disney’s most recent addition to the Star Wars series, “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” takes viewers on an exhilarating voyage through a galaxy far, far away. This new series follows four young children whose perceptions of the fabled Jedi are similar to those of our world’s fairy tales. Jon Watts and Christopher Ford co-created the series, which follows a group of children as they explore the Star Wars universe. There are lots of interesting aliens in "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew." In fact, some of them are so interesting that you may not even realize the full extent of their impact until the end credits. One such figure is Benjar Pranic, a former member of Jod Na Nawood's (Jude Law) crew. Pranic casually walks in when Jod attempts to retrieve Sm-33 (voiced by Nick Frost) at the behest of Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Kb (Kyriana Kratter), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), and Neel (Robert Timothy Smith). Fully knowing that Jod should be imprisoned in the brig, the alien sets up a friendly conversation ... which soon cuts into the very unfriendly revelation that Jod now has Brutus' (Fred Tatasciore) entire crew chasing him. Bruce Willis, one of Hollywood's finest, made wearing a vest during a hostage situation seem perfectly acceptable. Many of his most beloved roles saw him wielding a squint like Clint Eastwood and a level of sass that other actors just couldn't deliver. But much like Willis himself, his top three rated films on Rotten Tomatoes are a surprising package that would certainly make for an interesting unofficial trilogy to watch over a weekend. That includes what Rt has deemed the best of the bunch: a movie about a decidedly vexed New York City cop with no shoes and a partiality to Roy Rogers films.
Indeed, it should come as absolutely no shock that "Die Hard," Willis' breakout vehicle and a bullet-riddled pillar of the action movie genre, is the actor's highest rated film on Rt among critics. Earning a well-deserved 94% from the website, "Die Hard" broke the mold that so...

The acclaimed 2009 comedy "500 Days of Summer," memorably starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, is widely considered a love story, despite the movie explicitly denying this association. As its lead actors maintain, the film is more of a coming-of-age tale than a conventional romance, with its protagonist confronting the truth about the nature of love. For those who enjoy the movie's quirky sense of humor, eclectic soundtrack, and refreshingly grounded and related performances, there are several thematically similar films. While some of these comparable movies are outright romantic comedies, what really links them to "500 Days of Summer" are their young adult coming-of-age sensibilities.
This isn't to say that these movies are directly inspired by "500 Days of Summer" either; several on this list were released years before. What these movies have in common is a wry, often self-aware and dialogue-driven sense of humor, with the story anchored by two likable leads.

Poker Face is prepping for a big return in 2025, so here's a quick reminder of how this quirky Peacock mystery series unfolded in season 1.
Created by Riann Johnson, Poker Face is basically a love letter to the TV mystery movies of the 1970s. The pilot introduced us to Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), a Vegas card shark with a sardonic attitude. She's enlisted by Sterling Frost Jr (Adrian Brody), son of a powerful mobster and casino boss who wants to use Charlie in a classic setup of being a "ringer" for a rich guy and bilk him in a card game.

Charlie, you see, has a unique talent. For reasons she can't explain, she's a living lie detector. Somehow, some way, she always knows when someone is lying and will call them on it. That's a boon for a card player and why she was banned from playing before Sterling Jr.

Artificial intelligence is one of the most controversial topics in the tech market today. Whether it leads to medical industry advancements, art generated from stolen assets, or accessibility for the differently-abled, AI continues to grow exponentially with no signs of stopping. John Connor warned us, but did we listen? No, we did not. Contrastly to the fear-mongering above, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is partnering with Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s T-Street Productions for an AI thriller starring Anne Hathaway. Gordon-Levitt directs the untitled project from a script he wrote with Kieran Fitzgerald, who co-wrote Oliver Stone’s 2016 biographical thriller Snowden.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kieran Fitzgerald share a ‘story by’ credit with Natasha Lyonne, who stars as Charlie, the lie-detecting investigator, in Johnson’s Peacock series Poker Face. Gordon-Levitt and T-Street are well-acquainted after the studio produced Johnson’s 2005 crime thriller Brick, starring Gordon-Levitt as a teenager who pushes into a crime ring after his girlfriend disappears.
