Carlo De Marchis was born in July 28 1939 in Rome, Italy. During his student years of architecture at "Sapienza" University in Rome, he worked for several Architectural studios doing model and miniatures. At 1963 he abandoned his studies to concentrate on his miniature work. At early sixties he was asked to collaborate on a film making a miniature house to explode. After that event he started to built miniatures for films more often. At middle sixties he started to collaborate with Carlo Rambaldi on films like Bible(1966), Barbarella (1968), or Pinocchio (1972) He worked at Carlo Rambaldi team alongside Giuseppe Tortora and Isidoro Raponi. At 1974 he created his owns line of model kits and tin soldiers under the name of "Siderea models" in Rome. He collaborated with Rambaldi on films like: King Kong (1976), Close encounters of the third kind (1977) or The hand (1980) At 1978 he spent 8 months in London where he was sent by Rambaldi to take care of the head animatronic effects they made for Alien (1979) From 1980 he began to work by his own. He was responsible with Nick Allder of building the giant animatronic snake for Conan (1982) and many other special make up effects. Aafter that film he settled in Spain working on films like Hundra (1983) or Tuareg (1984). He also collaborated on several films for "The Cannon Group" company. He was responsible for make up effects and miniatures for horror films like Slugs (1989) and The Rift (1990)
