Wicked is one of the biggest and best movies of 2024. It's made over half a billion dollars at the box office, surpassing Mamma Mia! to become the most successful movie ever adapted from a stage musical. Fans have been waiting for a movie version of Wicked ever since the musical hit the stage way back in 2003, so it's no surprise that people turned out to see the film.
Before that, Wicked was a book by author Gregory Maguire: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, published in 1995. The book, which reimagines the story of The Wizard of Oz from the Wicked Witch of the West's point of view, was a hit right from the start, and there were attempts to turn it into a more straightforward movie before composer Stephen Schwartz got ahold of it and made it a musical smash.

Emma Stone Crowned #2 Actor of the Millennium, Beating Hollywood Legends and Igniting Online Debate!
Emma Stone was named the #2 greatest actor of the millennium by The Independent, ahead of big names like Denzel Washington (#4), Nicole Kidman (#5), and Daniel Day-Lewis (#3). The top spot went to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
While many people praise Emma’s talent and two Academy Awards, some fans, especially Denzel’s supporters, are upset about the ranking and have shared memes and complaints online. Despite the criticism, others feel Emma’s success proves she deserves the spot, making the debate a hot topic.
Classic stars like Tom Cruise (#60), Hugh Grant (#57), and Leonardo DiCaprio (#17) were ranked lower than younger actors like Florence Pugh (#10), Jennifer Lawrence (#15), and Kristen Stewart (#16).

Emma Stone was ranked as the #2 greatest actor of the millennium by ‘The Independent,’ beating out iconic stars like Denzel Washington (#4), Nicole Kidman (#5), and Daniel Day-Lewis (#3). The top spot went to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
While many admire Emma’s talent and her two Academy Awards, some fans are upset about the ranking, especially Denzel’s supporters, who voiced their frustration online with memes and criticism. Hollywood Legends like Tom Cruise (#60), Hugh Grant (#57), Matthew McConaughey (#55), Kate Winslet (#45) Leonardo DiCaprio (#17) are seemingly overshadowed by their younger colleagues as names like Florence Pugh (#10), Jennifer Lawrence (#15) Kristen Stewart (#16) outrank them.

Happy Holidays from The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.
Today we discuss the incomparable Al Pacino with the returning Mitchell Beaupre! Our B-Sides today include Bobby Deerfield, Revolution, Frankie & Johnny, and Danny Collins. We discuss Pacino’s legacy (is he our greatest living actor?), his Oscar win for Scent of a Woman (what a silly plot that movie has!), and his deeply earnest autobiography Sonny Boy.
We dish on what doesn’t work about Bobby Deerfield, what does work about Revolution (hint: it’s the production design), how Michelle Pfeiffer was unfairly criticized for Frankie & Johnny, and why Danny Collins is much better than you think.
Conor asks: Is Adam Sandler the new Pacino? Mitchell asks: Was Pacino’s smallness in Bobby Deerfield and its failure a primary reason...

The long-awaited finale of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone aired last week and broke a major ratings record. According to a press release, the final episode was watched by 13.1 million total viewers, making it the biggest episode in the series’ history. The second half of the fifth season was also the most-watched Yellowstone season on social media, with 619 million engagements—a 55% increase compared to the first half of the season.
The Yellowstone finale has concluded the tale of the Dutton family—but wait, not really. There are plenty of Yellowstone projects in development, including a potential spinoff series featuring Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly returning as Rip and Beth. There’s also The Madison, which has some serious star power behind it. Michelle Pfeiffer is set to star in and executive produce the new show, which follows a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana. Per Paramount,...

After five buzzy, immensely popular seasons of television, Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" has finally galloped off into the sunset. Fans know this is far from the end of the franchise, though; the prequel series "1923," starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, will return for its second and final season in February 2025, while the spinoffs "1944," "The Madison" (with Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox), an untitled continuation of the Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) storyline, and probably "6666" are en route. "Yellowstone," for better or worse, is going nowhere.
One person who's unlikely to ever set foot on the ranch again is Kevin Costner, the star whose John Dutton III was the driving force of the original series. Costner and Sheridan's happy creative marriage hit the rocks hard when the duo couldn't work out how the former would be able to shoot his Western movie epic "Horizon: An American Saga...

top actresses who were about to star in Wicked (Photo Credit – Instagram)
The success of Wicked has opened up a lot of unique conversations when it comes to films and their production. Whether it’s the equal pay received by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande or the casting process of the musical fantasy. The blockbuster film, co-starring Jonathan Bailey, has dominated the box office worldwide and its collections are increasing with each day.
But the film which was adapted from the stage musical of the same name wasn’t always supposed to be led by this set of actors. Marc Platt, one of the two producers of the movie, recently opened up about how years back several A-list actors were in talks to star in Wicked. Here’s what we know.

Two decades ago, the Wicked movie could’ve looked very different.
In a joint conversation with Vanity Fair, Marc Platt, who produced the 2024 film, Wicked author Gregory Maguire and composer Stephen Schwartz recalled the first efforts in the late 1990s to turn the story into a feature film.
He detailed a world in which stars like Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman and more were interested in playing the beloved roles of Elphaba and Glinda, which eventually went to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in this year’s adaptation of the musical.
“I am going to try and get the timeline right if I can remember, but I believe when I became the president of production at Universal, the project was already here,” Platt said. “It had been optioned initially by Demi Moore’s company.”

Long before Wicked made the jump from stage to screen, the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel had Hollywood in a frenzy.
Jon M. Chu‘s recent movie musical adaptation marks a long journey to the big screen for the Wizard of Oz prequel, with Whoopi Goldberg vying for the rights to Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West shortly after the bestseller’s debut.
“This is true,” Goldberg’s rep told Vanity Fair. “Whoopi loved the book and tried hard to get the rights.”
According to Maguire, Goldberg wasn’t the only actress to throw her hat in the ring. “People who had expressed an interest in the first six months included Whoopi Goldberg and Claire Danes. Salma Hayek had had some interest, and Laurie Metcalf,” he recalled.

Pretty Woman’s lead role went to various actresses before Julia Roberts ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
After this, Julia Roberts snagged the role to launch her to global fame. It was a classic mix of talent, timing, and, let’s be honest, some seriously quirky Hollywood decisions.
Let’s start with Molly Ringwald. The teen queen of the 1980s turned down Vivian because she felt “something icky about it.” She candidly told The Guardian that even back then, she sensed a story vibe that just didn’t sit right. Ringwald’s hesitation paved the way for others to test their luck—and face similar hurdles.
So who else tried to snag the role of Vivian? Let’s just say Disney and Garry Marshall, the director behind Pretty Woman, had some ambitious picks. Karen Allen was first in the mix. Then came Winona Ryder, Jennifer Connelly, and even Diane Lane. But each time,...

Fresh off the conclusion (maybe?) of “Yellowstone,” another Taylor Sheridan show just got renewed. “Mayor of Kingstown” will return for Season 4, Paramount+ announced on Wednesday, ensuring that Jeremy Renner’s Mike McLusky will be back.
Sheridan co-created the drama series with Hugh Dillon, and the third season ranked as the No. 1 series on Paramount+ throughout its run.
In Season 3, a series of explosions rocked Kingstown and its citizens, as a new face of the Russian mob set up shop in the city, and a drug war raged inside and outside prison walls. The pressure was on Mike McLusky to end the war but things got complicated when a familiar face from his incarcerated past threatened to undermine the Mayor’s attempts to keep the peace among all factions.
Renner returned to “Mayor of Kingstown” for Season 3 following his near-fatal snowplow accident in 2023.

Were Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo confused about Tony Stark’s funeral? ( Photo Credit – Instagram; Facebook )
In a wild twist, the climactic scene where Tony Stark’s cabin-side memorial takes place was actually filmed as a wedding scene instead of a funeral. Yes, a wedding. Talk about commitment to secrecy.
You read that right. In one of the most somber moments of Endgame, where emotions ran high as Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) set Tony’s “Proof That Tony Stark Has a Heart” wreath adrift, no one spoke. The camera glided across cast members, each one trying not to give away a single hint. Per Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo—two of Marvel’s most notorious spoiler risks—the scene was initially presented to them as a wedding, not a funeral. They were kept in the dark, like the rest of us, until the cameras started rolling.

Yellowstone, the perpetually snubbed by the Emmys frontier drama, aired its likely final episode on Monday night, to 11.4 million same-day viewers. The fifth and final season was split in two, and the big conclusion was a 4% increase over the last episode in season “5A.”
While these numbers are nothing compared to finale records of past generations—the 1983 conclusion of M*A*S*H had 106 million viewers in the United States alone—take a moment to consider that this means, in the age of streaming and apps and TikTok and whatnot, that 11.4 million television sets were tuned, at the same time, to Paramount Network or CMT.
The season 5B premiere in November, the first episode following the departure of Oscar and Emmy-winner Kevin Costner, carried a whopping 16.4 million viewers. That special event episode and its same-day encores aired on 8 cable networks plus CBS.
Paramount Global also boasted that the Costner-free Season...

Was Annette Bening supposed to play Catwoman? ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Yes, the role of Catwoman in Batman Returns. Annette Bening had already accepted the job back in the early ‘90s—but then, motherhood showed up uninvited, like an unplanned plot twist in a Batman script.
Annette Bening was all in for Selina Kyle. She got cast, fitted for a catsuit, and even went through the process of body casting—like, a full-body mold of her shape. But life, as it often does, threw a curveball. She got pregnant. Surprise pregnancy. Like an unexpected villain making a grand entrance. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Bening shared how it all went down:
“You know what happened was I got pregnant – Yeah I did [laughter] – and I mean it was so surprising because I was trying to get pregnant, and I had never been pregnant, so I didn’t know...

After years of entertaining, baffling, and shocking us, the tales of the Dutton family have come to an end, and Yellowstone is finally over. But given the talent that is Taylor Sheridan, he is once again working on another spinoff set in the Yellowstone universe, starting from where the series ended.

While ‘The Old King is Dead, Long Live the King’ resonates louder than ever with Kevin Costner’s John Dutton being dead, Sheridan has found a new ‘King’ to lead this next spin-off: Lost’s Matthew Fox.

Yellowstone, the long-running drama about the Dutton ranching family, came to an end the other night with its season 5 finale, "Life Is A Promise." The series has been a huge hit for the Paramount Network, spawning multiple spinoffs. But the final season hasn't been received as warmly as past seasons by fans, whether because they think the writing has degraded or because star Kevin Costner stepped away from the series, necessitating several story pivots. Maybe both.
But how are fans receiving the series finale? At the moment, the narrative is that they aren't taking it too well. "Dumb ending #Yellowstone #YellowstoneTV," one fan wrote, per The Express. "That was probably the worst final season in television history," wrote another. You get the idea.
One person compared the ending of Yellowstone to the ending of Game of Thrones, which had a famously huge backlash among fans: “It is official. Game of Thrones...

Dutton Ranch closed its doors for the last time on Sunday, Dec. 15 with the Yellowstone season 5 finale... or did it? With all of the drama going behind the scenes with the hit Paramount Network series, it's understandable if you're a bit confused on where the show stands moving forward. Is it canceled? Is it over for good? Is Yellowstone season 6 happening?
It's complicated, and unnecessarily so. There have been conflicting reports over the past year about the future of Yellowstone following the departure of series star Kevin Costner. But its uncertain fate seems to have been resolved just in time for the original flagship series, which launched an entire universe of hit shows, to sign off with its season 5 finale — and (unofficial?) series finale.
Even though the Paramount Network has continued to market the season 5 finale as just that, a season finale, a new era seems to already be taking shape for the Western phenomenon.

Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler may not be riding off into the sunset just yet.
The fan-favorite Yellowstone couple played by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, respectively, have been in talks to continue to expand Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone-verse since this summer. Then on Wednesday, just days ahead of the season 5B finale, multiple reports surfaced that the pair have finalized deals — not for a sixth season, but for their own spinoff series.
The news, if true, was essentially a spoiler — and explains why nothing has been publicly confirmed. (Paramount Network has not commented.)
Heading into Sunday’s epic conclusion to the currently airing season, anything could have happened. A confirmed spinoff series with two of the show’s main stars would spoil for the audience that they survive whatever is ahead in the nail-biting finale for the main Dutton family, which also includes Luke Grimes and Wes Bentley.

The future of the “Yellowstone” universe is coming together. Deadline reports that series stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have closed deals to lead a spinoff series. The news comes ahead of the “Yellowstone” finale on Sunday, Dec. 15. Paramount Network declined to comment.
The new series is being developed by franchise creator Taylor Sheridan and will likely feature other “Yellowstone” characters alongside Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, the hard-charging daughter of the late John Dutton, and Hauser, who plays Beth’s tough husband, ranch foreman Rip Wheeler. It will feature “Yellowstone” in the title.
Reports for plans of a continuation of TV’s most popular show have been swirling since “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner left the series early last year. In August, Deadline reported that “Yellowstone” would actually return for Season 6. But now, plans are reportedly coalescing around a spinoff, which will allow Paramount to retain streaming rights for the...

It looks like “Yellowstone” is continuing past Season 5 after all. Series stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have closed deals to lead a spinoff series, according to multiple media reports.
The two actors portray Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler on “Yellowstone” and will reprise their characters in the spinoff. Taylor Sheridan, the creator of “Yellowstone” and the mastermind behind its many sequels, will be involved in the upcoming project. It’s been reported that this will be the first spinoff in this universe that will include “Yellowstone” in its title.
This will be far from the first spinoff in this universe. The series’ first came three years after its 2018 premiere. “1883” starred Sam Elliot, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill and told the story of a generation of the Dutton family that experienced the Old West. That was followed in 2022 by another Paramount+ original, “1923.” That installment starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren...

An ambitious project, Yellowstone is set to end in just a few days with the highly-anticipated Season 5 finale, which is also going to serve as the series finale. The series started off great, but you probably know that the production of the recent seasons was burdened by several controversies.
While you might have thought that this would kill the franchise as a whole, it has officially been confirmed that the Yellowstone franchise won’t be ending on December 15, 2024, when the fifth season’s final episode is going to air. This means that more Yellowstone content will be released in the future.
While you might have thought that a sixth season is on the way, we can confirm that it is not a continuation of the main series but rather a spin-off series that will be focused on two of the series’ best and most popular characters. Who? Keep reading to find out!

Exclusive: The upcoming Season 5 finale of Yellowstone will not be the end of the Dutton clan’s story. Series standouts Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have closed deals to lead a spinoff series, reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively, sources tell Deadline.
Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind Yellowstone and its ever-expanding universe, is working on the creative for the new show, which will likely feature other cast members from the mothership series alongside Reilly and Hauser, I hear. Led by Yellowstone characters played by the same actors in the same present-day time frame, the new offshoot shares the most DNA with the mothership of any shows in the Yellowstone universe to date, which explains why it will be the first spinoff to carry Yellowstone in the title, sources said.

Taylor Sheridan stepped behind the camera for what may be the final episode of Yellowstone.
The co-creator and writer of the hit Paramount Network series directed the final episode of season 5B that airs on Sunday, The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively reveal. The sixth and final installment in the season is being described as a special season finale event and airs at 8 p.m. on Paramount Network.
The Dec. 15 episode will also be supersized, running one hour and 26 minutes. Titled, “Life Is A Promise,” the logline for the Sheridan-penned ending reads, “The fate of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is revealed.”
Sheridan, who writes all episodes in the series, directed the entire first season of Yellowstone, which launched in 2018. Since then, he has directed many episodes within his stable of Sheridan-verse series for Paramount+, including Mayor of Kingstown, Yellowstone prequel 1883, Lioness and Landman, the latter which is currently airing its debut season.

1992's "Batman Returns" was initially met with a reaction somewhere between confused and concerned, mostly due to it being a much darker affair than audiences and critics had expected. But it has since firmly established its standing as one of the great Batman interpretations. Even as Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy mostly dominates conversations about the greatest Batman movies, "Batman Returns" remains an inspired and beautiful expressionist nightmare that represents a full realization of director Tim Burton's artistic vision.
But it wasn't just Burton's direction and production designer Bo Welch's Art Deco-meets-Fascism set design that made "Returns" such an immersive and unforgettable experience. Danny DeVito's performance as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin stole the show — which, considering this was a movie that also starred Michael Keaton, Christopher Walken, and Michelle Pfeiffer, is a pretty impressive accomplishment. While Colin Farrell hated his costume for 2024's "The Penguin" series,...

“Within every man there are two men. One who learns to be civilized by day. One who longs to be savage by night.”
So begins the theatrical teaser for Mike Nichols’ Wolf (1994). I remember seeing it for the first time on the “Coming Soon” section of a freshly bought VHS tape brought home by my mom (it might have been Bram Stoker’s Dracula or maybe Jurassic Park) and at the time it scared the hell out of me. The sight of a beastly Jack Nicholson, heaving with barely repressed lust and violence over the prone body of Michelle Pfeiffer, was spooky to me in a way movies can only be when you’re eight years old and the possibility of monsters being around every corner is still very viable to you.

When an actor stars in a film, their promotional responsibilities are often written into their contracts. They have to appear on talk shows or post about the film on their social media accounts ... or even just not say anything bad about the production, no matter how the film turns out.
With the benefit of time, though, many actors look back on their work and want to let fans know that they were just as disappointed as we were. An actor trashing their own movie lets us know that they're human just like the rest of us, and that they too can tell when something just didn't work. It can also make for a great press anecdote. Take Dennis Hopper, for example, who told The A.V. Club that his son once asked him why he bothered to star in "Super Mario Bros." The "Easy Rider" star recalled telling his son, 'Well,...

When it comes to Hollywood’s handsome hunks, no one can beat George Clooney. Think of charm, sophistication, and that dazzling smile that graced red carpets and screens for decades. But behind that aura lies a career that’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, especially when it comes to the box office.

Suits star Patrick J. Adams is opening up about his difficulties during the series’ seventh season when he left the long-running USA Network legal drama.
In an interview with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the Nov. 26 episode of Ferguson’s “Dinner’s on Me” podcast, Adams acknowledged “I wasn’t taking good care of my mental health, and I was drinking too much come the end of seventh season. I was in a zone of living a pretty unexamined life. was pretty miserable … was, I would say, pretty depressed.”
“I didn’t have the tools to deal with that depression beyond just spending money and drinking too much, you know, and not really knowing how to talk about it or in therapy sort of, but not really doing it,” Adams continued. “You know what I mean? Like, there are all these things that I knew I needed to probably be doing and I wasn’t doing.

In 1994, David Geffen, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Steven Spielberg -- three of Hollywood's biggest power players -- united to form a brand-new major motion picture studio called DreamWorks, something that hadn't been attempted in decades. The trio of execs had three stipulations: they wouldn't make any more than nine films a year, they would be allowed to make movies for other studios, and they would be able to go home in time for dinner.
For three years, the trio would wrangle contracts and make deals with various music, film, and television entities to make sure it was standing on solid ground and could handle being the outsize business entity they wanted it to be. In 1997, DreamWorks finally released its first three movies: "The Peacemaker," "Amistad," and "Mouse Hunt." The year after, the studio broke into feature animation with the bad-but-popular CGI insect film "Antz" and the highly acclaimed and very good "The Prince of Egypt,...
