All About Zack Snyder's 'Rebel Moon'
Filmmaker Zack Snyder takes us to a different galaxy far, far away for his take on an epic space opera. 'Rebel Moon' follows Kora (Sofia Boutella), a former soldier for a corrupt galactic government. She recruits a team of rebels, mercenaries, and warriors, including Charlie Hunnam (Kai), Djimon Hounsou (General Titus), Doona Bae (Nemesis), Ray Fisher (Darrian Bloodaxe), Cleopatra Coleman (Devra Bloodaxe), and Anthony Hopkins, voicing a robot knight named Jimmy.
Kora and her crew seek revenge on the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Free) and his evil right-hand man Admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein).
With its evil empire, space rebels, and robots with funny names, 'Rebel Moon' will likely remind you of Star Wars, which makes sense, because Zack Snyder initially pitched the idea to Lucasfilm as an extension of the Star Wars Universe. "It was me saying, 'Give me the keys and let me take it for a spin,'" admits the writer-director. But when Disney purchased Lucasfilm, Snyder began to retailor his story to stand on its own.
And like Star Wars, Snyder sees the film as just the beginning of a franchise with two more films in the works as well as a video game, an animated short, and a graphic novel. Snyder also promises extended R-rated cuts of the films, much like he's done with 'Justice League' (2021) and 'Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice' (2016).
'Rebel Moon' hits Netflix in December 2023, with a limited theatrical run still being planned.
