Booked (Docu Sizzle) Series Due for Release Autumn 2021
When a ruthless producer learns the long-running soap she's just sabotaged is the key to her career future, she and her bunch of misfit actors must pull together to make a hit against all odds.
Concept:
Booked is a single-camera, workplace comedy set in the ridiculous, petty, high-drama world of soap operas. It covers the space between camp, daft comedy, and beautiful, serious moments between vulnerable characters. It's Extras meets The Office with some Dynasty thrown in the mix.
When Miranda's dad's declining health forces him to put her in charge of his stalwart TV network, she can't wait to start making some changes. Namely, axe that old daytime soap opera, Heart and Soul. Her vision is to rebuild the network like a hipper FX or AMC with shows to rival everything from The Walking Dead to Dancing with the Stars. She gleefully kills off all the soap's characters with a fire in its school-set main story.
But Miranda didn't figure out the old man's stubbornness into her calculations. Her father, Grayson informs her the only way she gets to keep her job as network head is if she revamps his life's work and makes Heart and Soul a commercial and critical success. He wants a goddamn daytime Emmy!
Not only that, she'll have to do it with the rag-tag new cast he dumps on her. Miranda scrambles to whip into shape her ensemble of actors featuring the faded diva Lynn, who refuses to admit she's broke, the sweet gay bartender (and drag queen) Kyle who's never caught a break, the DGAF maybe lesbian, Paige who both fears and uses her stunning looks, the happy-go-lucky newbie from the UK, Bradley and the stud who's slept his way to the middle, Tim - namely with Miranda. She brings back one veteran actor from the soap - Alan, who's been with the show since day one and is her true father figure while her real father throws her a curve ball of a mysterious former diva, Dannielle. Can this island of misfit toys find what it takes to make ratings and Emmy gold?
