Grown·ish: Workin' Me (2019)
No, just no.
Good, interesting episode aside from the oh-so-often backwards representation of veganism. The franchise of Blackish hugely lacks in the respect animal rights from the standpoint of its misplaced sense of humour. If in the main tv show, Jack becomes the only real vegan character, here, we fall back into the usual ignorance with Lucas being "vegan" and eating chicken hoping nobody will notice, not unlike Phoebe's famous sudden cravings for meat. This show is high on describing how Gen Z does not want to be triggered, unfortunately this and other details show that Gen X & Y are probably at the command. Veganism is a recognised philosophical belief dating back to as far as Jainism in India, it is based in empathy, understanding for animals and self-sacrifice, as such it deserves to be represented adequately and not mocked out of mediocrity in a show with such a wide audience that advocated for all-encompassing respect - but for animals.
Black·ish (2014)
Good show, but too sexist...
Very good and fun show, but very sexist. The mother who is a surgeon does everything in the family and sometimes asks the father to "step in", to which even if she's sick to no end the response she gets is "no you look fine" in a should be humorous fashion... One would hope that we would be passed this kind of paradigm that is present at each and every episode. But that a surgeon, a profession known for having incredibly long work hours and shifts, which can take place pretty much anytime during the week, would do everything at home, in comparison with someone working normal hours in advertisement and going golfing whenever, just makes absolutely no sense realistically speaking and therefore really pushes for this society model. Respect of animal rights inside the story is also often very fishy through jokes that the characters make, which are problematic. This will age badly, if it hasn't already, and it's a pity, as otherwise, great actors, good ideas, funny show.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
It could be very good with some good changes...
This show could be so good! I watched all of it to figure out what the issue was and I think it is that it doesn't seem like the actors are having fun. The sequence (no spoilers) where the two guys are not talking in the alley and there are subs is the epitome of this: no energy, no facial expressions, very awkward. Just imagine Barney and Ted, or Marshall and Lilly in their shoes - it would have sparked with creativity.
The issue is that the actors lack facial expressions, rhythm and energy. Their voices most of the time is monotonous. They clearly are good, well-trained actors, but of course this cannot be working.
Maybe the material given to the actors is not right = the characters are just too blasé, too serious, too sad. They don't take life light enough. Hillary Duff is clearly the exception, she is very energetic and creative in her acting, not to mention the guest stars, who very oddly are the best parts of the show.
The actor playing Swish is the closest to How I Met Your Mother in terms of vibe, and that's what made me want to give the show a real try and actually watch all of it.
When looking back on HIMYM, what made us love the show is that from the first episode onwards, the actors were having fun and had true chemistry. Their jokes kept bouncing off of each other and they all became funnier and funnier. They were all pretty extraverted as well and smiling, laughing, strongly reacting 90% of the time.
Here, we have Ellen and Hillary, who are really active and happy, and the rest are disappointed, sad, boring adults. They are a little older than HIMYM, sure, but it doesn't need to be like this. It doesn't make the audience dream and want to be them, hang out with them, like with Friend or HIMYM.
And maybe blasé can be cool, but it's not funny in this kind of show, especially where one expects a HIMYM vibe.
Side note, I sure hope the show is based on the alternate ending of HIMYM, which the immense majority of people prefers and requested. Otherwise, this is a tad ridiculous. So many people just fell out of love with HIMYM because of the ending... make it right people.
You have the alternate ending, the mother doesn't need to die, and Robin and Barney can get back together. These two are two peas in a pod. This is what makes sense, this would bring audience to your new show, the opposite will dig its grave deeper. Make the changes, be brave! :)
Extinct (2021)
Definitely recommend!
Really nice movie, absolutely recommend!! Very cute, unexpected twists, very creative and original, definitely hoping for a sequel!
Carnage (2011)
Not worth watching aside from the acting
There's no real story, no real character development, and it's an extremely negative movie.... so .... no point and no conclusion. Very disappointing. Only scene worth while is the very last one.
Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire (2000)
Great!!
Really very entertaining! Nice scenario, great actors, above what can be expected of a Disney tv movie :)
Mickey Blue Eyes (1999)
Excellent movie!
A great movie for all of those who liked "Analyze that", "Meet the Parents", "The Whole Nine Yards". Very funny, good scenario, great actors!
Woman of the Year (1942)
Hard to watch in our time
Very good movie, very incoherent and disappointing ending, where the incredibly successful and brilliant woman accepts to become an unhappy housewife (in her case) to get back her husband, who is nowhere near as talented and driven as she is. If the roles/genders had been reversed I would have thought the same thing, in terms of the personal accomplishment of both characters it is very disappointing and the opposite of uplifting or inspiring, and ruins the climax of the story. It is very apparent that the ethics of that time played a big part and it makes it really hard to watch nowadays, just because we all want our beloved characters to exceed our expectations and fulfil their dreams. In this case, it would have been better if the characters had broken up like so many actors at that time, who didn't like the fact that their wife wanted to keep being an actress and have a career. Portraying this change in man/woman relationships would've marked cinema history much more, and been much more interesting for future generations, than going for this all too shallow and non-climatic ending.
The Neighborhood (2018)
Really good, funny show, completely underrated!!
Great cast, great humour, great way to spend a fun time! The first episode is a bit slow, but afterwards it kicks off and each episode has a good scenario! Definitely recommend, I watched it twice already!
