Ang anak ni Brocka (2005)
This movie is a "Mockumentary" not a comedy.
I was really thinking if the late director Lino Brocka ever left any legacy behind. Aside from being a great activist, director, teacher and belonging to the third gendered group. How is it possible that he had an offspring. I popped the VCD in the player then 15 mins from the movie I saw actors acting out in a documentary style ala Bikini Open filming. Then it struck me, this movie is a mockumentary. It could have gotten a 10 if it was real. The message that it shows is very impressive and there is always a lesson to be learned from the greats, but to me they should have changed the title into a semi-autobiography rather than a controversy. It fooled me into thinking that its a documentary about Brocka's lost and now proved fictitious son. I know the people that made this film is doing a great job on keeping the independent scene in the philippines alive and supporting all indie directors but, to me the title Ang "Anak ni Brocka" is kinda like a marketing strategy to get peoples attention.
Pinoy/Blonde (2005)
The Philippines' answer to Kevin Smith flicks with deeper meaning
First off I'm a critic on all genres of film and for me Direk Gallaga's Pinoy Blonde is a mixture of cult classic flicks and how the time frame filming method was used to all wood-by film goers you'll think that this is nothing but a rip-off of all cult classics such as kill bill and a film bombarded with cameos, but its more than that, its about independent filmmakers giving lecture to the best flicks that came up and turned both Hollywood and Philippines cinema lines from Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal, substantial quotes from Spiderman to kill bill, and the ever famous Vilma Santos Burlesq Scene being told again. People from this generation don't know anything about that and this movie can educate them especially the young aspiring indie film makers. As the time frame filming goes, it is said in a lot of film schools that it is not possible to incorporate it in a movie, but as far as is goes two movie pulled it off. "Breaking The Waves With Emily Watson." and now for the first time in Philippine cinema "Pinoy Blonde." A Cult hit that I consider a genius masterpiece. It takes a real film buff to understand this movie and I mean serious.
The Debut (2000)
We are all entitled to our opinions ,but not everything revolves around black people
First off guyb I'm not a filipino but I'm a indie filmmaker living in manila. This movie is a bit descent for a fil-themed movie and the reason why there is a significance between Mexican/Spanish flicks with filipino flicks is because the Philippines was a colony of Spain for over hundreds of years and till now you could still see lots of Spanish culture within filipinos. In regards to movie, we each have our own perspective and not everything always turns out the way they should but this is the passion of it. Being an indie director for me is to share my art regardless if it makes a good show or not. Same like black people are entitled to their own kind of movie regardless of what theme. We just watch movies, who are we to judge what are the character and meaning behind it.
