American Honey (2016)
Brilliant and directionless
Maybe that was the point?
The cinematography of this film is seriously excellent, 10/10. Most of the film had a very real and genuine feel to it. The acting was on par as well. Being that the runtime flirts with 3hrs you're waiting for some profound character development or plot. It's not there, it never comes. That's okay for some people, for others it'll drive them nuts.
From my perspective, a genuinely entertaining film that has no real conclusion or story.
Kingpin (1996)
Woody Harrelson's Best?
I'm genuinely surprised to see this film rated at a 6.9? I do not personally know anyone who's watched this film and not laughed. It's dark/ absurd humor throughout, and it does that flawlessly. For what this film was trying to be, it's a 10/10. Though I suppose it's doubtful you're reading a review 23+ years later trying to decide if you should watch it. If that's you though, this random guy on the internet says that you should.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Absolute masterpiece
For those complaining about a lack of a plot or character development, you're missing the point of this film. This would be like going through the most amazing, artistically impressive, disturbing, dark Haunted House on halloween and after exiting saying "Yeah, all of that looked awesome, and was completely entertaining and cool, but what was the plot?" Not all film or art is meant to have a moral to the story. What's the plot of the Mona Lisa? There isn't one, it's just art, and you should recognize this and appreciate it for what it is. I watched it the first time with my sister and her boyfriend at the time. They didn't like it, I thought it was an absolute masterpiece.
Alt-Right: Age of Rage (2018)
Worth watching
I find it interesting that the negative reviews of this movie are from both sides of the political spectrum. Some are angry that anyone would give someone like Richard Spencer this much face time, and others are angry that Antifa isn't shown in more of a negative light. The film does portray the new alt right as tantamount to Neo-Nazism, but I found it interesting to learn that this is something Spencer and his followers refute. Ultimately this film presents us with the argument of if the rise of white supremacy in the United States is something to be seriously worried about, or is something to ignore and not give attention to. I wasn't bored watching this movie. It was well edited, interesting enough, and overall worth watching.
