Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021)
People are missing the point.
Though it's not really that deep, this is going over the heads of some reviewers. It's a dark show. The comedy isn't supposed to be funny on its own, it's a parody of TV comedy. The acting in the TV comedy part IS over the top, The humor and plot of the sitcom part is supposed to be ridiculous. The laugh track and setting is in a stupid TV sitcom style. But that's the point. Around her husband, the world is a stupid sitcom full of idiocy. When he's out of the room, it her real life. It's dark. It's drama.
Don't be turned off by the first two minutes.
True Detective (2014)
Skip Season 2
Not so much a review as it is advice:
Watch Season 1 and 3 in that order. Both are similar in their production in the way the storyline takes place in different decades, similar to This is Us. Writing and acting are solid. Well done.
Season 2 is nothing like the others. It's watchable, but hardly great. Skip it or save it for last.
I Care a Lot (2020)
Could've been good, but it just makes you angry.
The plot involves a terrible scam that have healthy elderly people declared unable to care for themselves and sent to nursing homes. Then the care-giver essentially loots everything they've got.
The lead character appears to be a strong woman in a decision making role. Then you realize she's vile. Her antagonist is the Russian Mafia. Inept and vile. Court system: inept. Guys supposed to be killers: inept. You hate the lead character, so you hope the mafia gets her. But you don't care about them either. And in the end, the scam that started small - and we hoped all along would be exposed - has now become a big worldwide scam. Regardless of what happens to the CEO, we're left with no resolution other than sadness. And the one good guy, driven to kill, probably goes to jail.
