Thappad (2020)
Lost in 2nd Half
The First half of the movie is written very precisely, How Amrita's (played by Taapsee) life is. Her Daily activities, her hobby, her relationship with her family & husband. Then the dreams which she wanted but gave up for the marriage. Till the incident of slap her character is written very active.
But soon after that she just disappears from the movie in the second half. As whatever she did after first half was mere reaction to the situations, soon she became a passive character & what would have been an exceptional film ended up being a mediocre film.
Along Came a Spider (2001)
Flat Movie :(
In the first 20 minutes itself, you will loose interest.
1. The movie directly start with a wound that our main character (Morgan Freeman) get in the opening scene
2. Then comes the other twist, without any knowledge about his personal life, social life etc.
So we don't empathize with our character at all
ACT 1(First 25 minutes) of the movie is a total failure & eventually you will loose interest watching it further.
Veyilmarangal (2019)
Simply Awesome!
One of the best independent movie I have ever seen.
The Simplicity of the movie takes it to another level. It leaves a mark on the world of realistic Cinema
When a village in Kerala is flooded, A Dalit family who becomes homeless & doesn't get any support from the government moves to Himachal Pradesh to get a job with a help of friend. How they adapt in a totally new environment is the story all about.
Bharat (2019)
Bharat Review
Unlike 'Sultan', Ali Abbas Zafar & Salman Khan combo didn't work this time on big screens. The movie started with a very strong turning point in year 1947 when Bharat(Salman Khan) got separated from his father during partition & now his sole responsibility is to take care of his family. But after such a strong opening everything just fell apart. No doubt the movie name is 'Bharat - A journey of a man & nation together' but there was no togetherness in this journey, instead there was glimpse of India's progress in 70 years by showing India's World cup win, Nehru Ji's death for 30 seconds & then it focused on Salman Khan skills throughout the movie but the last 15mins of the movie gave some relief to the audience with a small Indo-Pak talk show program which was a nice concept.
If the movie was taken in a manner in which it reflected how Bharat would have lived his life with those struggling Indian years, surviving every aspect of India's journey in those 70 years then it would have been a master piece but sadly it turned out to be something entirely different.
Chopsticks (2019)
Chopsticks Review
Chopsticks is a sweet Drama-Comedy by Netflix. The Story basically revolves around a girl Nirma (Mithila Palkar) whose brand new car has been stolen & her only aim is to find her car, in the process she seeks the help from a con man named Artist (Abhay Deol).
The Story directly starts with a showroom scene with Nirma buying a new car & giving a small hint of her character & her professional life. Then it directly goes to turning point where a con man steals her car. This doesn't help the audience to empathize much with her character. It would have been better if the story would have started with her personal & professional life problems & on that her only happiness of buying a new car & then moving to a point where it gets stolen would have created a much more impact on audience.
The second flaw in the movie is directly focusing more on internal change of her character as the movie moves forward whereas it should have been like Nirma focusing on the ways to get her car back & in this process find the potential in herself.
No doubt the idea of the story is good but some more work on the script would have made it a wonderful film.
