I thought it was quite good
14 January 2024
I can see the featured review was negative, but I personally was quite hooked with the story. Yeah it was not something I would consider original, but there was alot of character development which I thought made the film for me.

I don't really have much more to say about it so I just repeated the review to meet the (stupid) minimum character limit.

Obviously a religious thing

Obviously a religious thing

It's a bit student creation. Also obviously a Covid type movie. It's quite interesting and thought provoking to a certain category of person. To others they will most likely just be irritating. Even if you have a negative option of the content you can't get away from the fact that it's actually quite thought through. Some interesting twists in there too. At one point it seems to go off the rails and get a bit hard to follow where it's going. If your a category A atheist then you'll probably just get angry.

I think it's genuinely worth a watch, but just be aware in my opinion as piece of media it's technically not great, mainly due to the format, but that's partly because of the Covid restrictions so forgivable.

Wtf is a gravity tractor?
13 December 2023
I mean come... on. Is that like a tractor beam or summat? Doesn't an EM drive need propellant? Why don't we just say we are going to open a hyperspace window and allow the asteroid to pass through the earth. Probably doable for 4 billion dollars. Build a hyperspace engine while we do the EM drive and gravity (at)tractor and solar sail which needs a terawatt laser to power it. Oh yeah they forgot to write the laser into the script after they declared that's how they were going to power the solar sail. Oh well it won't matter, no one will remember anyway. Everyone in this world is still full of adolescent hormones even to adults. I think all the characters just obsess about sex and being edgy. So in conclusion it's just a soap with some crap scifi mixed in. Don't expect much.

Much better than the low rating
19 November 2023
It starts as something mildly derivative, but the story has a nice twist which I thought was difficult to guess. You could tell it was in the category as "all is not as it eems".

At the time of writing it had a 5.4 rating, but I've seen films at this rating and I think it deserves much higher.

For me as an English person it would have been more enjoyable as a dubbed film.

There are female characters in the film, but they would have easily been been male, and vice versa.

Good action scenes, though it seemed that some of them were rather too obviously choreographed.

I guess the film has something to say about hidden meaning in the universe, but to me it's not really that kind of film.

Way ahead of it's time I think
14 October 2023
I saw this at the cinema when it first came out. It was really amazing. I've since seen it at least 10 times and it's still really good when you think about when it was done and the technology at the time.

I was much younger (obviously) when it first came out. The reveal near the end was really quite good.

If you gripe and moan and compare it to another sci-fi franchise >cough< Star Wars >cough< you are missing the point. This may be a long movie, but so are many others so that's not a reason to hate it. Yes it does have lots of dramatic staring scenes. This is a device to create suspense, for those who don't understand. I get that some people who have microscopic attention spans have issues with this. These are sometimes the same people who have to "go to the toilet" because they are addicted to social media, poor souls.

Not sure what the "Emotion picture" quips are about. You prefer movies without emotion?

You need to remember this was essentially the film that kicked off the Trekkies fandom. ST-TNG started 1987 so this was the first Star Trek production after the ST-TOS which ended in 1969.

It was fantastic in 1979 and it still is, sorry millenials.

Just no

Unrealistic and er gay. I'm not homophobic, but it seems like all the characters are gay and there's no mixture at all. Sorry but no. Completely whimsical, arrogant and narcissistic.

What are "required characters"?

Not so bad
28 September 2022
So I have watched this and I'm not some shill.

The film is really panned by the reviewers. I didn't see the reviews until after I watched it.

It is not the best sci-fi film I've watched but it doesn't deserve the bandwagon panning it's received.

I'm not going to arrogantly ask a reader to ignore the bad reviews as it's up to the individual.

I found the film to be quite a reasonable effort.

The CGI is a bit dated, the acting is not amazing, the story in parts is a bit derivative and in other parts quite original, but I've seen people give better ratings for much worse.

I gave the film a "British" average 5. I was tempted to give it a higher rating to offset the bad ones, but ..

John is not the shiniest spanner
19 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't watch the full clip as I'm a sci-fi fan. Obviously the title was attractive, but checking the reviews I find it's about a gay bloke who maybe isn't firing on all cylinders - if you know what I mean. Some people may find it a nice film, but it's really nothing more than click bait for me. I stopped watching 3 mins in as it's not really my cup of earl grey.

Yeah
24 January 2020
Just seen the first one.

It's obviously using the Discovery format.

I can well see this being developed as the new direction of Star Trek as the series and Discovery being "merged" into this.

..and by "merged" I mean ended.

Can't wait to see Jeri Ryan and Whoopi Goldberg reprisals too.

Hats off to them both
27 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I see some negative reviews for this.

Most of the criticism is about the poor quality of the film or the fact that it protrays only their side of the arguement.

I'm sorry, but since both McDonalds and the UK government have changed as a result I can't see how anyone can fault this film portraying their side.

Also since this was all done on a shoe-string against effectively unlimited resources from the other parties I can't fault the style or quality.

To do so it just not to understand the monumental task they undertook.

If I was scoring on the production itself I would give it an 8. If I was scoring on content bias maybe a 7.

But as someone who actaully appreciated McDonalds for providing me with work and money at time of need, and who enjoys their food from time to time, I still say thank you to the 2 involved for proving that one person (Helen) acn make a huge difference by simply sticking to their guns and not relenting.
