Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
A touching tribute....but....
Plenty of reviews, but now let's look at the plot holes.
Starts strong but seems to lose something along the way.
A very well made tribute to T'Challa, but not sure how the series will go on with Shuri as the new Black Panther.
Let's consider the fact that in a leadership challenge the Black Panther is stripped of his or her powers. How will she face her challenger physically.
I didn't understand myself that with the risk of the Wakandans being wiped out, why did they lead with one Black Panther instead of multiple? Shuri has always been one to go against the grain, and be driven by intellect and innovation, why wouldn't she think of this herself considering that their religious beliefs have now been debunked with Vibranium been found outside Wakanda.
Desperate times did not lead to desperate measures in this circumstance. Since Disney are so keen on going girl power, you'd think that Okoye would have been the obvious choice. A formidable fighter without the heart shaped herb and has been loyal to Wakanda placing her beliefs above all.
At this rate Wakanda won't be forever.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Too focused on comedic relief
Unfortunately the film itself seems to be quite underwhelming.
Whilst the stars and co-stars continue with the similar style of performance as previously seen, the story itself seems to be lacking a drawcard that stimulates the hunger for more. The climax is quite anti-climatic and the cgi in itself seems to be of poor quality considering what we have seen in previous films.
The introduction of the mighty Zeus could have illustrated a bit more raw power as opposed to introducing a comic, that could possible be taken out by Hawkeye if given the chance.
The light hearted comedy observed in Ragnarok was well balanced whilst not detracting from the story. In Love and Thunder it feels that some of the comedic moments are forced, and that the emphasis of the movie is to create laughs rather than build up the anxiety and tension that you would expect Christian Bale's character to create, or feel any emotion between Thor and Mighty Thor.
If you are not in any hurry, wait until the Disney+ release.
Perhaps better luck in the next instalment.
The Guilty (2021)
I must have missed something! Boring
There are some great movies out there. Then there are others that you wish you simply didn't watch.
This falls in the latter. Yes we have a solid performance from Jake Gyllenhaal, but the movie is just simply boring. Had great potential, however I can only assume Covid-19 had limited the filming locations.
I won't go into the synopsis as there's plenty around, however don't expect much from this film.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
May be the best Marvel film yet
It's quite rare to see a superhero film these days where there is actually a good story, good acting, and has the ability to keep you wanting to see more.
This film ticks all the boxes. Only very slight let down is occasionally the cgi appears to be on the poor side (however luckily it's not throughout the entire film).
Another great good vs morally clouded flick.
If you haven't seen it, definitely worth the watch.
Don't forget, there are two post credit scenes after the movie.
Infinite (2021)
If you liked the movie Jumper you'd enjoy this.
Ok. We live in world where most movies are loaded with cgi bs. However if you don't look too much into it, this film is quite enjoyable.
Not necessarily a good vs evil movie. Comes together nicely and actually makes sense. You actually do feel sorry for the protagonist even though you're rooting for team Wahlburgers.
500 individuals on Earth retain the memories of their previous lives. The antagonist is mentally fatigued from the memories that haunt him. He wants his constant reincarnation to end and there is only one way for this. To end all life on Earth so that reincarnation is no longer possible. In theory this makes sense. Team Wahlburger fight for the survival of all life on Earth.
Would have been much better if Morgan Freeman voiced the voice over.
F9 (2021)
So bad it's an instant cult classic!
Let's face it, you could dress them all in teletubby outfits for 2 hours, and you'd still pay to watch it.
Seems like the director, producers and script writers have totally forgotten about leaving a positive legacy behind.
For a moment I thought I was watching Spaceballs.
I had to switch my mindset whilst watching this movie. I realised it was now a comedy.
As the scenes played out, I simply imagined the police academy theme song playing in the background. Changed my whole perspective, otherwise I would have seeked a negative rating.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Great for those who suffer from insomnia.
Having trouble sleeping. Finally a cure has been made.
You'll have no trouble sleeping through this movie.
You may need several attempts to watch this movie in its entirety due to boredom.
Angels Fallen (2020)
So bad it's addictive!
Another for the comedy category...
So bad...and yet I could not bring myself to press the stop button!
End scene reminded me of the 90s Mortal Kombat movie (and that's not a good thing).
Must have been directed and produced by 12 year olds and filmed with their parents home camera.
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
Characters deliver...but the movie could be much better!
Fast and the Furious = Witty, action, family, attention catching, non intellectual entertainment. Anyone reviewing and giving this a low rating simply because it's not an epic drama should probably turn away from the series, as the series is not trying to capture that audience.
I myself went into this film expecting all the joys, jumps and rides I've come to expect based on the previous films. Whilst this is a "spin-off", it came across as a bunch of actors trying to cash in on the franchise. Whilst there is nothing wrong with that, the audience would come to expect corny comedy and action from these characters which the movie does deliver on. However the film itself is simply boring in comparison to anything in the Fast and Furious franchise. The actors have delivered on what is expected of them, however the story itself seemed well beyond far fetched (even for a Fast and Furious movie).
It seemed like a cross between a James Bond film, and Superman returns with a touch of sound effects from a Transformers movie.
It was nice to see a touch of culture thrown in with Samoa...then this was all destroyed by several "idiotic" scenes which followed which could have been done with a little more grace than to make Samoans simply look like brain dead barbarians that know only of family with the odd "smart" ball in the bunch.
Other than that, my 12 year old loved the movie. I on the other hand was simply disappointed.
If there is a sequel to this, I hope the producers engage a third party consultant to assist with what potentially can become a great franchise if done correctly.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Not actioned packed however...nice wrap up!
The bulk of the film is set five years after the events of Infinity Wars.
Ok let's start with the negatives:
CGI of some of our favourite characters appear to be slightly on the poor side. The CGI is quite noticable in some scenes.
Secondly...It's very long and as a whole does not have much action. It is more dramatic. This is not a bad thing, however some fans may expect more action in this genre of film.
On a postive note, it brings the characters back together very well.
Unfortunately it appears this film too has become a victim of "feminism", with an unnecessary girl power "we got this" scene featuring Captain Marvel and a number of supporting female cast. Why unnecessary? Because viewers will note that Captain Marvel could have quite easily conducted the task at hand with little or no assistance.
The cast have done a great job with plenty of little cameo's from our favourite and not so favourite characters of the MCU. The film presents itself as a good wrap up to the 22 film series. Prepare yourselves for some laughs and for some tears.
Btw...there is no post credit scene so no need to wait till the end of the rolling credits.
If you have an opportunity, go watch the film at the cinemas as it is still worth the watch in a cinematic environment. Just make sure you go to the toilet before the movie starts due to the length of the film.
Happy watching!
A job well done to both producers and directors.
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)
Ralph bores the internet!
When the best part of a movie is the end credits, you know something is wrong!
Whilst trying to make his best friend Vanellope happy, good old Ralph makes a boo boo contributing to the unplugging of Sugar Rush Racer. Ralph and Vanellope embark on an adventure to acquire a part from the world wide web. As per what we expect of Ralph he creates more problems whilst trying to find a solution.
There are a few little quirks in the film. Vanellope enters Disneyland / Disneytown within the World Wide Web. My inner child definitely kicked into high gear, by seeing various characters from storm troopers to Disney Princesses. This short lived moment is probably where joy started and ended in the film for me. That is...until the end credits started!
The film and it's concept had much potential, however there is only so much extended depressed toned dialogue one can handle throughout an animated movie.
In Wreck it Ralph, Vanellope brought balance to Ralph's attitude and personality. However in Ralph Breaks the Internet we are faced with two main characters that appear to need a healthy dose of anti-depressants (even though I must admit Ralph does start off chirpy at the beginning of the film).
Unfortunately this film did not live up to the wonder of Wreck it Ralph. If great animation, bright colours and a boring dose of Ralph is all you're after then definitely go for it.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)
A touching finale to a wonderful series
Almost nine years we have waited for this dramatic conclusion. Was it worth it? Definitely!
There are moments when watching this film that I thought that it was getting a little slow paced for me. However at the conclusion, I had come to appreciate every scene knowing that those scenes contributed greatly to the emotional ending.
The movie itself continues with the journey of Hiccup and Toothless. Hiccup is now chief but his focus is divided between looking after his people and the saving of dragons that are still threatened by humans outside of Berk. Hiccup embarks on a quest to find "The Hidden World", however he only has stories and few notes passed on from his father to go by. He believes that moving all dragons and his people to this mystical location will be the safest bet for their survival, given that Hiccup has made Berk an enemy of many tribes by raiding and saving dragons from those that do not mean well.
As expected there is a new villain in this film by the name of Grimmel the Grisly. On a Villain meter this guy gets a solid 10. Cunning, ruthless, and hunter of dragons for the pure joy of it.
As Toothless meets a new mate, Hiccup is faced with one of the hardest decisions of his life. However is it one that he is willing to make?
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is nothing short of a work of art. Is it the best movie in the series? I would say that it is on par with the others as each film captures the growth of Hiccup and the bond between himself and Toothless in a particular point in time. However I can say that this film is easily the most emotional.
The supporting characters all play pivotal roles as Hiccup has grown to trust and rely on his dear friends over the course of the three films.
This movie is great for all ages. Dreamworks have done a wonderful job in creating a timeless classic. I would strongly suggest watching the first two installments before watching this film.
