The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
I'll be honest...I loved it!
I'll be honest, halfway through the first episode I struggled with the diversity. But why is that? If you turn off your own narrow-mindedness, it's just completely in line with the world Tolkien created. I don't agree with the many negative reviews, mostly from people that did not take the time to even watch one episode.
It is beautifully filmed with spectacular special effects and due to the good acting and interesting script, it is very much like the Peter Jackson films.
As a big Tolkien fan, I'm very happy with this series that really does justice to his epic work. I hope season two will be as fantastic!
Instinct (2019)
Pretentious amateur movie
Such a pity, the subject requires respectful direction, but that is completely lacking. What a shame and waste of time. You rarely come across a story this far from reality. Good actors cannot save it. Also very bad camerawork, you get bored by it and it. Looks like an amateur movie. Halina Reijn is a fantastic actress but no director. You (2018)
Just another sick boy meets dumb girl series
Very, very slow and very very boring. A huge waste of time. Not bingewatch worthy so no second season for me. I really don't get the high ratings for this teenage Dexter-like series.
Kom hier dat ik u kus (2020)
Breathtaking!
This film took my breath away. Such beautiful and powerful acting. From the first minute to the last it got under my skin. The situations and interactions are so recognizable that I worked through a variety of emotions, from childlike melancholy to raw hatred. The filmmakers did the story by author Griet op de Beeck more than justice, you do not need to have read the book to appreciate this film. Better to first see the film and than read the book I think.
Mile 22 (2018)
Not bad at all
I was not expecting much but was quickly caught by the speed and original actions. Actually, the plot doesn't matter much because the whole film is very entertaining.
I Am Wrath (2016)
Remember this director
Chuck Russel, I will remember this director so I never have to watch a movie directed by him again.. He clearly has no love for the genre and gives the actors nothing to work with. It's pretty painfull to watch.
The Flemish Bandits (2018)
De bende van Jan de Lichte
A little cynical I started watching the Flemish series 'De bende van Jan de Lichte' after the famous book by Louis Paul Boon, because book adaptations often disappoint. Especially with favorite books. Already at the start I was pleasantly surprised and my attention caught. The medieval atmosphere is impressive and realistic and the acting is great. Although the storyline sometimes deviates, the book is really honored in my mind. It is a dark 'rascal novel' as the book was intended. A real pleasure to immerse yourself for hours in the Middle Ages and not be dissapointed. A very low rating is not to be taken serious.
