Beowulf (2007)
IMAX 3D Experience : You may figure out the story 1/2 way, nevertheless the effects are awesome
This is good movie and reminds me those orcs from those RPG games we used to play in the basement and The Lord of the Rings. I also think they could have made this movie bigger. The story has a good message honesty, bravery and choices in life. One must always make a choice and live with it for the rest of their life... be it lust, love, sex, fighting, lying, etc...
The CGI reminded me of the Final Fantasy IV Movie. A couple times during the movie I actually felt as though I was there, (of course the actors are a little big because of the huge IMAX screen). Take for example the stormy boat voyage or the one scene with a lantern in the top left corner. B.t.w. I think sitting position has a little influence on your final experience. We sat on the left side and further to the back, but to be honest, at the end, once the place cleared up and the credits where still rolling, I moved closer to the front (ie. First row of the second section) and the experience felt a bit more enveloping. If you've never seen a 3D movie, do see this. The entire movie is 3D and beats the 10 minutes of 3D effect which came out this summer in Harry Potter.
I gave it 8 out of 10 stars. Angelina Jolie is mesmerizing in her role as an evil seductress. The male actors give a comforting recognized voice. Unfortunately, I believe the lip movement was a little off from the voices at one point. The music is superb with not too much techno mixed into the classic sections. I personally believe music should stay in the background and in this case there where only a few instances where it shines... with it hidden themes. I'm no expert but the folly sounds didn't always seem quite on par with the actions. Finally, if you're the type that likes to lean your head on your companion, the 3D IMAX version may not be the best version for you. This is because the polarized lenses only work when you keep your head straight. Enjoy and watch out for the flying blood, arrows, arms, gory, arrows, spears, and great effects. A good movie to hold hands and experience an extra palpitation!
I wonder what a 3D movie with the only setting being that, and imitating, of a theater play would feel like!
100 Greatest Discoveries (2004)
From Extinction to Extinction
Episode - The Origin of Life and Evolution
An excellent movie to watch prior or after the "Inconvenient Truth, An (2006)" and "Who Killed the Electric Car? (2006)". This film's major subject is life, its evolution and its extinction. A further moral issue is hidden within the context of this film, hence the reference to the two aforementioned documentary films which deal with, respectfully, global warming and a controversy of restricting evolutionary technologies such as the "electric car". This movies, however, has hidden themes which can be linked with our current north American standard of life, living off of oil, failing to meet important governmental protocols that could help save our entire planet. This movie attempts to explain our deep psychological questions such as, why we exist, why we try to stay alive and how we try to understand planets, other ecosystems, environment and species. From explaining the misconceived bacterial sludge to deep sea chemosynthesis, or from the theory of comets, volcanoes and an explosion bigger than all nuclear forces, this documentary, hosted by Bill Nye, is an important summary of popular and common science theories. TVO summarizes this episode as "Ten milestones that have helped to tell life's story
" In fact, on top of the already mentioned themes this discusses "Charles Walcott's analysis of the Burgess Shale; the Linnaean classification system; Darwin's theory of natural selection; Donald Johanson's "Lucy"; Mary Leakey's Laetoli footprints; and Michel Brunet's Toumai skull."
This film has a fair overview and a perfect level of light humor (spelt the United States of American way!) from Bill Nye. Even with the seriousness of some of the subjects it is appropriate for all ages. I recommended parental guidance for children under 9 years old. The movie is produced by ThinkFilm and aired in Ottawa on TVO (www.tvo.org), Channel 2 CICA, at 19h00 January 16, 2007.

The Pink Panther (2006)
Cointains 1 scene spoiler but summarizes the movie, the music and the video in general
In a nutshell... "The dummy may not be what you where expecting
The intellectual may not be also." I had the time to go watch a funny movie, I believe is called The Pink Panther with Steve Martin playing a French inspector something Clouseau? If you have the time to go see it, it's hilarious, and I think would be a movie for your entire family. I could definitely associate with clumsy, quirky, yet honest and that word for taking thing by the book
loyal
eccentric
advocate? Well, there are a few hilarious scenes through the movie that will keep you smiling, laughing and drift you into the world of the Pink Panther. The Inspector Clouseau in one scene plays the bad guy cop and he then plays the good guy cop, while interrogating the suspect. Walk out of the room, and then quickly back in
. I'm pretty sure you can image how funny it is with Steve Martin, right! Usually it's supposed to be two different cops!!! :) I don't want a spoil the scenes but, I can't help but feel like inspector Clouseau will win the hearts of anyone that is having a hard time with their boss. That would be the average person out there that feels they are trying their best but still feel like others look think they are nerdy or pathetic. Trying to do the best of a job when someone higher up is perhaps looking for credit or for some other motive. This is obviously a story about how we can be used like a pond. And how it can backfire. The movie won't get an award for cinema work. It was a little chunky, in the sense that the video seemed to cut funny a couple time. The music and folly music could have been a lot better. As a musician you notice these things and I think the composer for the orchestration was either short on time or simply lacked some innovation to develop the pink panther theme a little more. The one song within the movie may however win the hearts of the less demanding. I give it 7 for the superb laughs and great feeling! -2 for the bad filming! -1.5 for the music!
