Yôkoso jitsuryoku shijô shugi no kyôshitsu e (2017)
I have never regretted the fact I don't understand Japanese more...
To all of those reading this, do not stop watching until the end of this anime! I became obsessed with this after watching it thinking, "this looks like a decent school anime with a mastermind character", but after watching this, I immediately looked up the manga to see if I could keep follow the story. However, disappointingly, the english version of the manga is behind the anime.
The only reason I didn't give this 10 stars is because I thought it was slightly slow moving. This wouldn't have been a problem had there been more episodes, and I get that you can't really explore Ayanokouji without the slow reveal of his genius, but the fact that . In summary, the only problem is, is that there isn't enough of it!
The only regret you'll have after watching this, is that there isn't anymore you can watch!
Disenchantment (2018)
Could potentially become better than "The Simpsons" or "Futurama"
If you began watching this show because of your love of 'Futurama' or 'Simpsons', than you might spot some similar themes between the two: an alcoholic (Bean), a friend with unrequited love (Elfo), or maybe a smart talking bad influence (Luci). Maybe this is what drew you to watch the show after watching the trailer or an advert.
But don't be mistaken. Groening, although having taken some aspects from the one-off episode style, he has also created a journey narrative in which Princess Bean, Elfo and Luci actually seem to have a purpose to the show unlike 'The Simpsons' and 'Futurama' in which you experience a day in their lives, and then move on. I won't reveal any spoilers, but these characters, despite the familiar character personalities, are actually vital to the main plot.
Many enjoy Groening's other works due to their satirical and passive themes, which I can assure you this has as well, despite the complaints that they are "safer". This show seems to somehow still keep its light-hearted humour despite having a well-thought out plot with developing characters, which in my mind, could potentially make this show better than "The Simpsons" or "Futurama", as long as the show sticks with both these ideas so the show can develop
