Terra Formars (2016)
You guys went easy on this, i won't
This has to be the worst project that Takeshi Miike has been part of. This is cringe on another level!
I felt like i was watching a pantomime with really bad cgi.
The acting is one dimensional, the effects are really low budget and it was simply painful to watch.
I did see the anime and loved it, it had a simple premise, not that original, but it pulled it off really well. The cockroaches were truly menacing and the humans were completely overpowered. It added a feeling of terror and abandonment that the film completely fails at.
The characters are just thrown in our faces with such poorly structured personalities, so how can anyone relate to them at all?
A very lazy effort overall and a massive flop for me.
Origin (2018)
Contrived, unimaginative and a shallow
I was hopeing to enjoy Origins, but after episode 1 my hopes dropped somewhat, by episode 4 i found my attention was no longer able to stand watching full episodes and began to skip.
I felt this could have been so much better, it feels like Origin has a void within it, the lack of imagination result in them trying to fill the void with drama and action, but it just does not have that weight to make me want to watch any more.
I am curious to see what happens, but it feels tiring watching this instead of interesting and compelling.
Those who compare it to Event Horizon really don't get the leap they are making, at best it is a cheap spin off without the imagination and depth.
Mortal Engines (2018)
Just didn't quite hit the mark
I was really excited to see this movie, the premise was very interesting and i love sci fi, however it just doesn't achieve it's goal.
The acting is pretty cheesy as are the actors, the plot is rushed and lacks depth, i found myself really not caring about what happened because it had failed to draw me in.
The structure was there for a good movie, but that just didn't work out in the end.
I wanted to like this, but too mant things just turned me off.
Gojira: hoshi wo kû mono (2018)
Amazing trilogy, left me wanting more!
I am so surprised at the poor reviews here, the animation was amazing, Godzilla was so ominous and set the scene for an impossible battle.
It coul dhave went further, granted, but it kept me gripped throughout. The characters are really well done and i loved the plot. It does open the way for more and i would love to see it go deeper with more intense monster battles.
It was fairly slow, but i appreciated that, it was not all action and drama, it was deep and unravelled slowly with amazing mythos added to the monsters deepening the back story.
Really hoping there will be more to come of this incredible trilogy.
Brigsby Bear (2017)
What a great surprise
5 minutes into this film and i thought it was a dull, quircky, offbeat comedy that i wouldn't resonate with. Half way through and i was laughing hard and really touched.
This is such a great film, it has been a while since i felt compelled to write such a review, but this film is just awesome.
Somnium (2018)
Oh wow, so so so bad
This has to be one of the all time worst films ever made, within 3 minutes i knew this was going to be awful, and it was.
Terrible camera work, terrible acting, weak plot.
This is just everything you should not do when making a movie.
I think the only thing that can be redeemed from this, is to show budding film makers so they know what to avoid when making a movie.
Possum (2018)
Immersive, creepy and isolated
Such an immersive and quietly creepy film. It reminds me of the Silent Hill games.
The atmosphere is so well generated, dark dirty environments and amazing performances.
The story is intriguing and grips you from start to end.
