Zero Chill (2021)

Makes No Sense

The plot of this show is absolutely bizarre and had to have been dreamed up by someone who isn't a fan of hockey. Any kid with an ounce of talent in the sport isn't leaving Canada - the mecca of hockey - to go to the UK. He'd be in a major junior league in Canada, playing college hockey in the US, or mayyybe playing pro in Europe. He's not going to school in the UK and coming out an NHL superstar. Furthermore, if the daughter is so talented, why are they choosing the son over her? It's far from believable and kind of disheartening. The acting is subpar at best. No wonder this was cancelled after just one season. A huge misstep by Netflix that's for sure. Don't waste your time.

Matt Rife: Natural Selection (2023 TV Special)

No laughs without crowd work...
25 November 2023
I have been a fan of Matt's since before he got crazy popular. I have laughed so hard I've cried at some of his material. I wanted to give this special the benefit if the doubt after reading some bad reviews. Unfortunately the reviews were really accurate. This is like stand-up 101. The jokes were so lame and predictable. I'm not even cracking a smile, let alone breaking out in laughter. Matt just isn't nearly as funny with preplanned material. He thrives with crowd work on the fly. His improv ability is off the charts fabulous. This special honestly makes me glad I wasn't able to get tickets to his upcoming stadium tour.

The Baby-Sitters Club (2020–2021)

A+ modern adaptation
14 December 2020
These books ruled my childhood and I easily read at least 150 of the novels. I have many well-loved originals still on my bookshelf, falling apart at the seams. The production team has done an amazing job creating a Netflix series that is true to the original storylines without making too many changes. It speaks to how timeless the books were. The casting is brilliant and each character is just how I remember them. I hope they move forward with a 2nd season.

The negative reviews all seem to be people who have very socially conservative views or have never read the books. As someone who has been highly critical of each screen adaptation of my favourite series, I can't say enough good things about this one.

For every chick flick fan
3 February 2007
Despite getting bad reviews, this movie was truly enjoyable and laugh out loud funny. Of course the critics didn't like it, but that's only because it was formulaic of its genre and caters to mainly a female crowd. I would totally recommend this film to mothers and daughters who like cheesy romance flicks. The humor will have you in stitches and you'll find it was worth the price of a ticket.

Diane Keaton is hilarious and not afraid to be a complete dork on screen. Critics had a lot of complaints about her performance, but throughout the whole thing, all I could think of was how much she reminded me of my own mother. Mandy Moore was sweet as always, painting a perfect picture of a 20-something looking for love. Lauren Graham's Maggie was an excellent "conscience" character for Keaton and Moore. Not sure why they had a 3rd sister, as Piper Perabo had few lines and didn't seem to contribute much to the film. Gabriel Macht was adorable and such an "every guy" that it didn't make the film over the top. Yes, his character's personality was too good to be true, but thankfully he is attractive more in the boy-next-door sense, than some magazine cover boy.

One note though - there is definitely a lot of sex talk, so unless you want to do some explaining later, leave the younger ones at home.
