If you have not yet seen The Hobbit trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, then you should stop immediately and go watch those films in order. For the ultimate viewing experience, it is highly recommended to view the extended version of this film for the greatest effect.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King serves as the epic conclusion to both iconic trilogies, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings.

With Isengard no longer posing a threat, the forces of men focus on combating the evil forces unleashed from Mordor, which have targeted Minas Tirith. Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam, along with their deceptive guide Gollum, seek a path into Mordor.

As the final battle between good and evil unfolds, Gollum reveals his true intentions as Frodo and Sam leave him and embark on the most dangerous leg towards Mount Doom to destroy the ring. Aragorn must embrace his destiny as the rightful King of Gondor and lead the armies of the dead, while also keeping the Eye of Sauron off of Frodo and Sam.

This film is emotionally resonant as characters face their fates and make sacrifices. The exceptional performances in this movie make it an unforgettable cinematic experience, bringing perfect conclusion to one of the greatest epics ever told on film.

If you have not yet seen The Hobbit trilogy and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, then you should stop immediately and go watch those films in order. For the ultimate viewing experience, it is highly recommended to view the extended version of this film for the greatest effect.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers seamlessly continues the epic journey that began in the first film. Frodo and Sam enlist Gollum's help in their quest to reach Mordor, while Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli set out to rescue their captured hobbit friends.

As Sauron's forces grow stronger in Mordor with wraiths ever seeking the ring of power, Saruman's army is unleashed on Rohan in an attempt to wipe out the race of men. This leads to an intense and gripping final encounter at Helm's Deep..

Dated but faithful and engaging adaption
4 March 2024
The 1981 BBC television adaptation of John Wyndham's novel "The Day of the Triffids" is an abridged six-part mini-series of the classic post-apocalyptic tale.

While it's now showing its age, the series stays true to the overall dystopian story-line of the novel.

The gradual unraveling of society and the breakdown of civilization are effectively depicted in this post-apocalyptic world. The Triffids were also convincingly menacing and deadly.

The adaptation does take liberties in condensing certain plot points and characters to keep this at around 150 minutes. However, the core themes of the novel - survival, human nature, and the consequences of tampering with nature - remain intact. The acting and settings were solid throughout, and also managed to capture the essence of the core plot of the novel, delivering a unique viewing experience.

At the time of this review, I believe it is the best adaption of the novel to film.

If you can look beyond the dated sets, this is definitely worth a watch, especially if you're a fan of the novel.

Pretty much a waste - it's pop-garbage.
3 March 2024
Do yourself a favor and go watch the Dune mini series from 2000 and then the Children of dune mini series from 2003. More story, more substance. Unless you are concerned primarily with visuals of course, which is all this movie wins in. The two miniseries are a better depiction of the stories in the books, whereas this film is extremely empty and slow and boring.

Part 2 was pop-garbage, a rip off exploiting the story and other stories to change it completely, where it only expanded on its wasted opportunity of part 1 to make a complete waste of time. It's very difficult to recommend this film and its prequel for anything but 'nice visuals'.

So, your best bet is to read the books or go and watch the two mini-series mentioned above between 2000 and 2003.

Hauntingly Grim.
29 February 2024

Threads is a hauntingly grim, yet important film that portrays the devastating effects of a nuclear war. Set in the UK during the 1980s, it follows the lead up to a worldwide nuclear crisis and the aftermath of the bombs wiping out most of the country. The film paints a bleak picture of the first year post-apocalypse, as well as the subsequent 8-15 years of survival. It doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of a nuclear disaster, showing the struggle and desperation of the survivors. The film serves as a stark reminder of the horrors of war and the catastrophic consequences of nuclear conflict. It's a powerful and thought-provoking film that will leave a lasting impact on viewers, highlighting the importance of never engaging in such destructive warfare. This is a must-watch for anyone seeking a sobering look at the potential horrors of nuclear war.

This was such an eye opening documentary.
17 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This documentary is a truly eye-opening and timely piece that delves into heartbreaking irreversible decisions and the alarming criminal actions being forced upon children today. In the modern information age, it is imperative to live by truth and reality, safeguarding families and, above all, our vulnerable children from detrimental choices. With hopes of enlightening parents and children, this documentary serves as a powerful tool to make informed decisions and avoid potential regrets.

I was left utterly shocked by the illogical and irrational reactions displayed by supposedly highly educated individuals within the film. Their dangerous ideologies pose a clear and present threat, warranting the stripping of their positions. Many of them struggled to provide straightforward answers, resorting to intellectual dishonesty in order to fabricate fallacious and deflective counterarguments. Fortunately, amidst this chaos, there were also rational voices offering clearer explanations, particularly the tribe from Africa.

Before watching this documentary, I had no idea the extent of challenges faced by children in today's world. It is our duty to shield them from being subjected to medical experiments and protect them from authority figures who have lost themselves in misguided ideologies, rendering them unable to grasp truth and reality.

The rating on this movie is too high.. even 4 is probably too high.
8 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly, this is a very boring movie, long, drawn out, and rather confusing with its time jumps.

Secondly, what the kids do is completely pointless because the mother already knew the letters could be delivered right in their home town instead of half the world away.

Thirdly, the story is a completely ridiculous and unlikely tragedy. A woman's lover is killed, but she still gives birth to his child. The child is taken away, and she spends years trying to find him, but gets put in jail. It just so happens she gets raped jail, and of all the ones who raped her it's her son who gets her pregnant with twins. She escapes to canada with her twins, and then before she dies she sees her eldest son once again at her local pool. But she sends her twins on a twisted journey to give a letter to "their brother" and "their father".

Honestly regret watching this movie. Should have listened to the bad reviews.

The Sandman (2022– )

Not for kids, will gross out sensible adults by episode 7
6 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I am a big fan of the original sandman comics, by Neil Gaiman, released between Jan '89 to Mar '96.

This series had settings, dialogs, and points taken directly from the comics, which served to be the series' strongest area.

The problem is they were nullified by the unhealthy and deranged focus on sexuality on screen. Which was over the top, and unnecessarily forced. It started slow, kept piling on, started trampling all over the story, until 1/2 way through episode 7, where i said "That's it, i give up", and tuned out.

This is not how the comic was, it was focused on the story, not pushing sexual themes in your face. Yes, some sexual themes were discussed in the comic, but they were more subtle.

I eventually went back to finish it, but it didn't get better.

If you want to get the best version of the story, check out The Sandman comic series instead. This series can be summed up by a line that was in the 11th episode (which was added to that story and wasn't part of the comic), where the author had to hit diversity targets in the screen adaption of their work.

If it gets cancelled, it's because of the above.

Bad.
14 January 2024
What a disappointing start. No desire to watch this anymore. It's pretty clear that this series is on par with the train wrecks disney has been doling out for the last decade. Another outing in a long line of wastes of time where they dropped the ball on casting, realism, pumped up cringe, or ditching the story or changing it to fill a checklist.

Hope is now lost for this series too. But you can now set your watch and expect disney will keep doling out disasters. The track record is clear after what they've done to other things, like Doctor Who, Star Wars, etc. Disney was once great, but it's now in the gutter.

Like another user said, this makes the movies looks good. This is set up to fail.

Attack on Titan (2013–2023)
10/10
Attack on Titan is a unique and captivating sci-fi fantasy masterpiece.
31 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The comic itself is exceptional, but the animated adaptation elevates it tenfold with its stunning colors and visuals. If you want to witness a flawless transformation from comic to animated series, look no further than Attack On Titan's comic, this series, and its related films. The artwork, animation, and storytelling remain faithful to the source material, adding to the immense world-building.

The initial premise of gargantuan human-eating giants is fantastical, but as the story unfolds, it reveals a vast and intricate narrative. Every aspect of this series was captivating, including the ending which was the best conclusion it could have had.

I fully recommend you stop reading in case you spoil it, and give this outstanding series a chance, starting with the full first season. If season one hooks you, you might want to pause there and search out the best order to watch the films and the movies in. You can get away with watching season 1 to 4, but the movies add expanded world-building context that will add to your entertainment.

I hope this series gets released as a full Blu-Ray set. But if not I'll be buying the full series and movies when they're all available. This one is a keeper!

The New World (2005)

Wow!
27 December 2023
This would have been a totally awesome movie if the year was 1913, and they showed it in full color - it would have stood as the movie to beat for decades! But it's not. I saw this movie and i thought it was alright at the start, but it was hard to understand the dialogue and there was a lot of voice overs too, which didn't help too much. I don't know the real story of Pocahontas, and i guess if i did the movie would have made more sense. Anyway after watching about 1h 30m of this movie i got really bored and i started skipping a little bit ahead, and as it went on i started skipping a bit more ahead with increasing intervals until the movie was over. I compressed the last hour into about 20 minutes, and got most of the idea. But i tell you if this was a movie i went to see in the theater, i would have walked out for sure.

This is like the first movie i've ever watched that i actually didn't want to watch anymore. I'm glad downloaded it instead and didn't pay to watch this movie. Hollywood films have been sucking a lot lately, which is why so many people are downloading flicks instead - they're tired of being ripped off! People want to have a good time in the theater, not pay 10 bucks to nap in an uncomfortable char, or get utterly bored to death. I'll give this movie another chance if they show it on cable or if I find the DVD out on the street. Hopefully it might be a better with the subtitles, and the ability to play 2x 3x speed.

Bottom line: wait for cable/DVD.

Poor excuse for a movie.
27 December 2023
Well i watched this movie last night. And i think i'm developing a bit of esp, because this junk is getting easier to spot as it appears on the horizon. For example, when i first heard of this movie i though "oh no, another America movie, by some American company, trying to make as much money as they can, over-using cgi, and totally destroying a good thing, that being the original G. I. Joe cartoon".

After watching the film that followed the usual modern day formula for a story: -BEGINNING- hype some silly problem (the missiles, you might have heard) -MIDDLE- send in captain CGI to save the day, and -END- advertise for the next installation of the film. It leaves nothing left to say except that my initial thought was right, oh, and please don't waste your time making G. I. Joe 2.

Superman: Red Son (2020 Video)
4/10
It was ok, but does a disservice to the comic.
27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is based on the 3-Part 2003 comic of the same name.

The art style is roughly the same as the comic, but in 3D in some places, and the art is probably the best thing that transferred over.

Some quotes were directly taken out from the comic, but their placement in the story wasn't always well thought out. For example there was a line about a 'bloodless' revolution in the comic that worked there because it was bloodless revolution in the comic, but it's not so in the movie, and so is out of place and makes Superman look delusional.

The plot of the movie goes off in different directions for the various reasons and is loosely tied to points in the comic. For example, Diana can't be with Superman because she's from a 'island of all women', but this wasn't part of the comic. Or only one superman-fighter was developed when several were. Ultimately the movie could have used more care to pull it all together and keep the plot intact, and ditch the PC stuff.

Probably the most glaring issue in the movie is the omission of the last few pages of the 3rd episode of the comic

If you want to get the best Superman Red Son experience, go read the 2003 comic. If you want to get a watered down/twisted version of Superman Red Son, watch this movie.

They should have made it like the comic.

They did to the Bill & Ted series what "disney's star wars" did to Star Wars.
27 December 2023
This should not have been made. It was unfunny, cringe-worthy, and a huge waste of time that ruined the former movies. If you enjoyed 1 and 2, I'd urge you to stop there and avoid this.

You've seen all the same kind of disasters before; Blade Runner 2049, the Star treks since 2009, and Star Wars since 2015. Now throw Bill & Ted's 'face the music' on that garbage-heap too. It's about what you would expect after making a new 'addition' decades later - empty, disappointing, embarrassing, and weak, all to earn a quick buck. The trailers tell you how much of a wreck this will be if you have a keen eye.

Great film!
27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film is undeniably intriguing and thought-provoking, shedding light on a situation that should make us all pause and reflect. In a time when our dependence on new technologies has reached dangerous levels, the movie unravels numerous flaws in our modern society. What's particularly eerie is its sense of predictive programming, leaving the impression that someone may be using this film to reveal their imminent plans.

It's puzzling to encounter several negative ratings for this film. Yes, it directly exposes how our excessive reliance on technology could easily be hijacked, throwing our societies into chaos. However, dismissing or ridiculing this over-reliance and its potential consequences instead of preparing, mitigating, or planning for such a scenario is what truly raises eyebrows. I reckon these critiques may have come from individuals who were similar to the unseen characters implied in the film, who found themselves trapped in cities devastated by nuclear attacks, propelled into the ocean by self-driving vehicles or malfunctioning planes, or even confined to food-deprived concrete condominiums perched on the fortieth floor.

Great watch!

Star Trek: Picard (2020–2023)
3/10
Tried very hard to like it.
27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Star Trek Picard started out all right for the first episode. By the 2nd episode, it started to become obvious that this was never going to be as good as the Star Trek shows and movies between 1966-2005.

Firstly, the writing was all over the place, and the story was, for the most part, superficial to non-existent. So many sub-plots were never followed up with or clarified, and questions were left unanswered. Writers magic was used in so many cases where a more dedicated person would have thought things out sensibly. For example, the 'imagination tool'. Also, the situation surrounding the federation's fall were not on par with what the Star Trek universe lore had set up already, and the only way it could have fallen that way was if people from today took over the future and ran it with today's knowledge. Some of the decisions they made were completely ridiculous, and made it seem like somehow the Star Trek universe lost most of its intelligence since Voyager returned from the Delta Quadrant. It was just a complete mess.

Secondly, the acting was unconvincing. They were just going through the movements of an unbelievable story. They obviously didn't believe it and are clearly rooted in today's world instead of Star Trek's. I didn't care for any of the characters, and found most of them to be unlikable. Even Picard was a shell of his once interesting self, not the strong leader he once was. The actor who played Data was the best of the bunch when he played Data, but was also unlikable when he played human roles.

Thirdly, excessive swearing was difficult to take serious after Star Trek set 40 years of good storytelling, showing a future that had evolved from excessive swearing, or didn't use it at all, and opted to be diplomatic and intellectuals instead. In Picard we had juvenile foul-mouthing in most every episode. In fact, it ruined the whole series and completely took me out of it right from episode 2 when it was first used.

Fourthly, the show-runners were laying heavily on the nostalgia card, betting on name dropping, and character pop-ups from former series. This alone was the first indication to me that they knew they didn't have a story. By the end of the season it turned out nostalgia was the only real card they had to play. It felt like they were patronizing fans and insulting their intelligence with this, and even that turned into a waste since it didn't help a trash-heap story at all.

Lastly, it was obvious they were doing their best to hold back political correctness as much as they could (probably from backlash in Discovery), but it still kept creeping in. They let it ruin much of the Star Trek lore, and now it's clear they're ready to come out with it in full force for season 2, which is poised to be another aimless season that they'll make up on the fly, or possibly plagiarize.

This isn't Star Trek.

Star Trek is about a future to strive for, and to aspire to be like - better than ourselves today. But every movie and show since the finale of the Enterprise show in 2005 has completely ignored this, and Picard is no different. We are presented with a darker future, one that is not inspiring, or even worth striving for. It's now the opposite, and makes me want to fight any future like that from arriving.

I gave it 10 episodes, and after the disappointment wore off and after gathering my thoughts over the last 2 months, I've decided I will not watch another episode of this. Even though Picard is not as bad as Discovery, it's the second worse Star Trek series created, and the second Star Trek series that doesn't interest me at all.

What i wanted was a thought-provoking and intellectually stimulating show, depicting a future worth striving for, wanting to visit. Possibly in stand-alone episodes so they could be watched in any order. I ended up getting an uninteresting soap-opera wannabe, set in a future i don't care about, that heavily mirrors current political correctness insanity, and that i don't want to see any more of.

0/10

-------------------------- Season 2:

I ended up watching the entire series over a few days after hearing it was cancelled. My suspicion of season 2 was wrong. Season 2 was a little bit better.

It had a somewhat good story arc involving Q, the Borg Queen, Picard's family, him falling in love, and time travel back to 2024.

There's more cameos, and some really nice scenes. The series was better than season one, but don't get your hopes up, because it drags, wastes time and has useless side-plots. I had to watch the season at 1.5 to 2.0 speed.

4/10

-------------------------- Season 3:

This time they rode nostalgia again, but did manage to pull off a somewhat entertaining, if not horribly disjointed, season.

It was all over the place, with Shapeshifters, Borg, and featured a lot of the original TNG cast. The original cast had a great reunion in this season, which made it a bit better.

But aside from some nice scenes, it was still the same kind of useless side plots and bad decisions, and swearing, and it completely ignored season 2. The ho-hum ending was a mix-match of things you've seen before.

5/10

------------------------- Overall:

Picard had a horrible start, was plagued with bad, silly, and aimless storytelling, with too many loose ends. It felt like it was always falling apart, unsure of the universe it was set in. But there is a faint glimmer of Trek in season 3 (and 2) if you can see beyond all that.

Overall: 3/10.

Doctor Who (2005–2022)
7/10
It had a good early run, but is now tarnishing its legacy
27 December 2023
I've been a devoted fan of Doctor Who since the 1970's, watching all of the original episodes, the film, and faithfully kept up with every installment of the 2005 series. All throughout I have experienced the ups and downs that come with being a fan of a Doctor Who.

While the gap between the old 1989 series and new 2005 series was disappointing, the stories beginning in 2005 were promising and managed to captivate my attention. Within short order it raised the bar on the original series, and the outings were a lot of fun, highly entertaining, and left me wanting more.

However, as the 12th Doctor (played by Capaldi) approached the later part of his run, I noticed a gradual decline in the quality of the storytelling. Although there were still some bright moments, the overall trend seemed to be moving downward. This same trajectory continued on during the 13th Doctor's (Whittaker's) tenure, where her regeneration occurred at a particularly low point in the series. With the recent outing for the 14th Doctor's (Tenant's) reign, which was undoubtedly a trip down memory lane, the stories presented were a far cry from the captivating narratives of his time as the 10th Doctor.

What has become increasingly evident with each episode is the show's prioritization of shoving ideological rubbish down the viewer's throat over solid storytelling. Yes, the writers are now sacrificing the essence of the show in favor of pushing certain agendas. Subsequently, the series has transformed into more of a vehicle for these messages rather than a platform for compelling, entertaining, and intelligent storytelling. The excessive use of extravagant graphics, explosions, and elaborate sets seems merely an attempt to distract from the underlying issues, and akin to putting lipstick on a pig.

After much consideration, this last outing helped me make the decision to pull the plug on Doctor Who, since it's only going to keep getting a lower score at this rate. Perhaps it is time for the series to take another extended break, as it did during the 1989-2005 period, in order to refocus on what truly made the show special - its captivating and engaging storytelling. It had a good early run, but I see no point in further watching it tarnish its legacy with the current trend it's following:

9th Doctor - 9/10

10th Doctor - 10/10

11th Doctor - 9/10

12th Doctor - 7/10

13th Doctor - 5/10

14th Doctor - 3/10

Total: (43/60)

7/10.

This film really is terrible
27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My buddy and i watched this movie. I'm not a fan of the Simpsons, and i have only watched about 6-7 full shows. But if anything is for sure, this movie is utterly terrible. It's sexist, profane, foolish, and a downright waste of time.

One part that stuck out, aside from the cartoon pee-pee, was a TV channel scroll advertisement, which popped up on the bottom of the screen, that made it quite clear of how they advertise in movies now. I assume it was made to get someone laughing, and if someone was laughing at that, it's kind of a shame. Because i imagine that's what the higher ups in the American ideal were trying to do, as they try to drop the blindfold of their deluded ways over the American people. If anyone argues.. someone could say "Well that's normal!" or "but they were just stating the truth!" or some other deluded line except for, "This means we're in trouble!"..

Anyhow the point i decided to not watch this movie anymore was shortly after Mr and Mrs Simpson were going to go to bed together, all these fuzzy little creatures burst in the door of the cabin and tried to make it all love-like. I turned to my friend and and remarked "this is the most ridiculous thing i have ever seen". And no i wasn't laughing one single bit. Needless to say it just kept getting stupider and stupider after that.

The lame jokes, which in fact numbered in the thousands if not hundreds, just became too much to bear. It was almost like the director was trying to put every joke possible into this movie, and not caring if only a few succeeded.

I am glad i downloaded this movie, i would not recommend this movie to anyone at all, least of all a child. This is an adult film, made for those who love the American way and all the foolishness associated with it, who love the gossip and rumor mills and who think this junk can bring positive political change. Sherlock (2010–2017)

This series was just excellent! Don't miss it!

What else can I say? Excellent 9/10 = Don't miss it! Meaning stop reading now and go watch it!

You really don't want to be spoiling this one, and it's better to be surprised, so you should stop reading now, and go watch it!

Let me give you a tip for when you watch it - watch it at 0.75 or 0.80 speed, so it will last longer. If you do that you will be thankful you did that, because it does 2 things. 1) It slows down how fast Sherlock is rationalizing so you can make better sense of it, and 2) it makes the whole excellent series last several hours longer and you can get more enjoyment out of it.

But ultimately, what you do is up to you, all i'm trying to tell you is don't miss this!

Wayward Pines (2015–2016)

Season 1 was fantastic, resist the urge to watch further!
25 December 2023
I must say, Season 1 was an absolute masterpiece, delivering everything hoped for. Unfortunately, Season 2 took an unexpected turn and failed to live up to its predecessor. To make matters worse, the disappointment was intensified by the show's cancellation after just two seasons. Therefore, my recommendation would be to cherish Season 1, and consider it the definitive story. Then disregard Season 2 and don't watch it at all (you might end up regretting it if you do end up watching it). It's truly disheartening that the series couldn't achieve proper closure and veered off track in its second installment.
