Black Widow (2021)
Past of a Superhero
I was not that keen on watching the female marvel heroes but I enjoyed this one. I liked the story how she came about, the family she came from. I found it quite interesting from the beginning. When Black Widow joined the Avenger movies, I had no idea who she was and how she got to be one of them. Its good to finally know the back stories. It is full of action which is what you expect in superhero movies. I like the plot of mind control. Its a good movie.
Prey (2022)
Not predictable the sequels
I like it better than I thought I would, even after I read all the negative reviews. Its a good addition to the franchise that is different from the sequels. I am not a fan of the lead actress but I think she pulled it off in this movie. A good screenplay helps.
Last Seen Alive (2022)
Last Sighted
The negative, first the title is deceiving because when one states "last seen alive" that would simply mean one is dead. The beginning also shows that they want the viewers to believe that she is not alive anymore. The screenplay is lazy because that is the twist, nothing more. The other actors besides Gerard Butler are B grade. Story is definitely predictable, they failed to make the story more interesting than what it is. The ending, not well thought off. The romance between the couple is forced, not believable.
The movie is ok because of Gerard, I woudnt have thought to see it if he wasnt in it. It still entertains but unfortunately forgettable.
Mirrors (2008)
Sinister Reflection
I am very surprised at all the negative reviews. This movie, remake or not is an effective horror movie. The story line is not exact as the original and the actors delivered the goods. Makes you glued from the beginning to the end. I saw it for the first time many years ago and remembering it being a good movie and since I cant remember the details, I decided to watch it again. I still enjoyed it. I realize there has been many horror movies made using mirrors in slightly different scenarios. It didn't take away the scare factor this one brings. I like the ending as well. Suited better with the twist conclusion.
Jungleland (2019)
Brotherly Bond
I have never heard of this movie and came across it on Netflix. I like Charlie Hunnam so I thought it would be a decent film. I really enjoyed the movie, almost teared up in the end. Along similar story of The Fighter except the brothers here are poverty stricken. The acting from the boys is great. Not really a fan of the female actress, I havent really seen her before. I like the plot. There is room for improvement in the screenplay, maybe a little character development and it would have been extraordinary. A solid film nonetheless.
The Gray Man (2022)
The Action Nomad
Its good to see quality movies you don't have to go out to watch at a cinema although since its a great action film it is good to see in a big screen. I think the story line has been done many times before, the plot is nothing new but it was great to see some new action stunts and good actors on a Netflix movie. I have no complains. I hate seeing good actors on Netflix films with boring screenplay and dialogues with not much effort put in. This is not one of them. I enjoyed the movie so I am not sure about the negative reviews. Its a fun solid action flick, remake or not.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Ungodly Mess
I watched this because the preview looked interesting and I have not watched a good Zombie movie in a while. Well, its forgettable and will not be recommending it. Its just a mess, the dialogue, the plot, no character development, confusing story, weird Zombies, bad editing. It is all over the place. I am being generous giving it a 4. I know a couple of actors in this movie from Upload and Maze Runner and they just wasted their talent on a poor script.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Wanda Vision Multiverse
There has been a lot of negative comments on here and one thing I agree with is that this movie is mostly about Wanda and not Dr. Strange. Not to mention the introduction of America into the plot. It is still an enjoyable superhero movie. I never watched Wandavision series but I picked up on where Wanda's story was at from Avengers End Game. I am not really a fan of the America character, I don't think she will be able to pull off a stand alone movie on her own. Wanda on the other hand showed that she is more powerful than Dr. Strange. Therefore this movie definitely has the wrong title.
Malignant (2021)
Malevolent 80's Theme Horror Film
Let's start with the good. I like the story line, not predictable like some movies in the horror genre. I like the twist and a kick of the psychological thrill. I don't mind the quick funny lines. This movie keeps you guessing til the end. It does have the 80's horror vibe. I like the jump scares. Good twist. Interesting plot. Now, the bad is the acting from some scenes from the beginning of the movie. Not sure if that is intended but it shouldn't be. There should not be a reason or excuse for poor acting in the story. The only other question I have is how did Gabriel learn how to fight like that. Good martial arts right there.
Lost (2004)
The Lost Souls
This show finished 12 years ago. I decided to watch it while waiting for my other series to come back on. I read the reviews first, I did not want to check out series that is not worth my time. Oh boy what a find! This one is an absolute gem. The whole 6 seasons of it. As much I as needed to find out the million questions I had, I did not want to see it ever end. There is so many things to love about this series. The actors are awesome though Clair is my least favorite. The best character development I have ever seen anywhere. The story is just so wonderful. Hats off to the writers and editors that kept us guessing the whole time and make us question what happens as it happens. The great mixture of characters is fantastic. I am glad I got to watch it all without having to wait one episode a week. That would have driven me crazy. This show definitely has everything, mystery, action, love story, supernatural, science fiction, time travel, drama, witty dialogues, what more could you ask for. This one wont be forgotten. Watching this made me feel for each character. It is an emotional ride. For those who did not get it or understand what its all about, its their loss because it is a beautiful story. I felt it. You cant watch this and just worry about getting answers to your questions in the same episode or season for that matter. If you do you will miss the meaning and what it is truly about. This is a masterpiece.
Good Joe Bell (2020)
Powerful Message Unsent
This is a very important movie. I wish people concern watch this as well so they can understand how it feels. It's sad and heartbreaking that lives get lost from not having empathy and compassion towards others. Its disheartening to think that they died in vain because some people still do not understand. Bullying still exist and it is up to everyone to put a stop to it. This was a cry for help but unfortunately not heard.
This movie is very sad and moving. The acting is very believable, thumbs up to Mark Walhberg and Reid Miller. My heart ached for Joe and Jadin as I watch it. The screenplay is good enough to get the truth of the story across. I hope the message reaches to all concern.
Dopesick (2021)
The Legal Drug Traffickers in One Family
This is an important show to watch. It shows the behind the scenes and extensive effects of any addictive drug in our society. It shows the heartbreak an addiction brings to any family. It shows the hard work, futile, endless efforts that have been tried to achieve to bring justice to this corruption and greed by the Sacklers family. They simply do not care, it came down to profits, no matter the cost. I am glad this is out in the open so people can decide for themselves with eyes open. Yes, Oxycontin is still available to those who actually need. At least now more people are aware that this drug has damaged a lot of lives in the process. Knowledge is power.
This show has a good cast worth mentioning like Michael Keaton and Kaitlyn Dever. Their characters are crucial to the show. The story is powerful. The heartache is real. I was moved when the character Betsy dies and her mother's cry as she learns of her daughter's fate. Its any parent's nightmare.
I am not a fan of the way they show the timeline. You can figure it out without it. It just confused people more. Other than done, its well done. I recommend that everyone should watch it as it can affect anyone.
Deep Water (2022)
Shallow Affect
This is a movie with mindless situations so you can not watch this and try to put yourself in the character's thinking or behavior. Otherwise you would hate it and keep asking questions as to why they act they way they do. Watch it simply for pure entertainment as if like studying a completely dysfunctional couple lacking self respect and morals. It is a fiction after all. I do have a question about the relevance of the snails in the movie. I failed to find the point. At any rate I enjoyed it. Both characters did a good job including the little girl.
Girl in the Basement (2021)
Hell on Earth
How to begin to say how I felt after watching this movie and know that someone actually went through all of it and more. I felt pure hatred, sick with anger that this evil man did all of this this and to his own flesh and blood. This movie has been even toned down as it did not show that Sara has been getting raped by his own father since she was 11 and that is why she wanted to leave as soon as she turned 18. Unfortunately her plans failed and her worst nightmare became her reality for 24 long years. I am very sadden with disbelief that a mother did not sense or feel the horror that came upon one of her children under the same roof for years. I am exasperated, as a mother I sense the slightest discomfort my child feels. How did she not feel her child was crying out for help when she was raped as a child years before she went missing. Her passiveness can be unforgivable in my eyes.
The real Sara had 7 kids in the basement, 3 were taken to live upstairs and one died. What an extraordinary woman and a great mother.
I have seen a few movies based on true stories about captivation. It is just absolutely heartbreaking seeing unspeakable horror, it stays with you.
I saw "I know my first name is Steven", "Cleveland Abduction", and "Room". They were all unbelievable sad stories of abduction. I see some critics did not like the movie because its real and horrifying. For me movies based on true stories are made because these stories need to be told. It might make you uncomfortable seeing that bad, crazy, awful things do exist. Movies can entertain, illuminate, educate, move you and take you to different place you might never get to see, it can also make you forget for a little while.
I think this movie executed the story well. The acting is good. The only thing that probably didn't gel is the neighbor that saw the light signal from underground but didn't check it out himself. The make up to show the aging appearance of the actors as they age 20 years is not consistent. Also not a fan of the romantic ending that is used that Sara reunited with her ex. In reality, she did fall in love with someone that helped her after she was freed. I hope that wherever she is now that she finds peace and happiness. I recommend this movie.
Upload (2020)
Science Fiction Future Uploaded
I love this show! Its innovative, fun, clever, and amusing. It has likeable cast and characters. Robbie Arnell is great as Nathan Brown. The story though it may have had a bit of similarities with other movies that have had a character die but still around, and that is it. The story line is original and fresh. I really enjoy the futuristic vibe, dialogues flow, no boring scenes or dialogue. Acting is believable, it is a comedy so I disagree with people that said that the acting was bad. They are acting the part. I really cant wait to see what happens in Season 2 and hopefully more seasons to come. This is interesting and easy watch. Highly recommend.
Hush (2016)
Solid Invasion Thriller
I like this movie, its not bad at all. The tension is good, plot is good. I would have scored it higher but I got a little frustrated on the main character's friend's husband. Did he actually buy that the intruder was a cop answering the distress call from the house? There was not even a police car in sight! He eventually got suspicious but it was just too late for him. He should have kept his distance from the killer while sussing out the situation. I am surprised that the killer did not kill the cat and he had no problems killing people. With the other thrillers, the pets are the first to go.
The main character is believable. I would have liked to see more of her life before the invasion started. I actually thought deaf people can hear/sense vibrations. That's why I thought she would hear when the killer is bashing her friend's body against her door.
The Wrong Son (2018)
The Lost Son
The Lost Son would have been the title I would have picked instead of the Wrong Son which gives away the plot or Her Son's Secret. This is obviously one of those Matinee, B grade movies but one of the better ones. The plot though predictable still gives you a twist. The actors are decent and the dialogues run smoothly which I appreciate. I am not sure how much of the story its based on is true as I have seen a few movies about lost child. I enjoyed the movie just the same.
There's Something About Mary (1998)
Something To Laugh Out Loud
This movie is hilarious. The Farrelly Brothers have made a lot of really funny movies and after There's something About Mary, later on did Me Myself and Irene, Shallow Hal, Heartbreak Kid which are some of my favorites. You just cant watch them once and you would still laugh the next time around. I enjoy this type of humor.
This movie have a great casts and with Ben Stiller you know you can expect to be amused. There is countless of hysterical scenes, it may not be everyone's taste. There are things that some people might not go for as its subjects that should not be laughed about because its crude. For me however its a must see if u want a good laugh.
Dying Young (1991)
A Sad Love Story
I love this movie! I have seen it a couple of times and still makes me cry. There is a scene near the end when Julia Roberts tells Campbell Scott to fight for them, Julia says I quote "Because I love you. And if you come back with me to the hospital and fight for us. Fight for us, I will never leave you Victor. But you have to fight. And if you get well, when you get well, I'll be there with you. And if you die, I will hold your hand. I'll hold your hand and the last thing you will ever see will be me because I love you." That is absolutely one touching speech.
The chemistry between the two main casts is undeniable which made this movie great to watch. Its realistic, moving, and sad. It showed the sad truth about cancer. The song "All The Way" which they play in the movie is just so fitting. I love the story where they started and ended.
Against the Ice (2022)
Surviving Ice Covered Greenland
I very much enjoy true stories and survival movies. The cinematography is impressive. The acting and screenplay is believable. It is worth watching.
The movie makes you put yourself in their shoes, the struggle, the fear of not knowing whether they make it back home, if they ever get rescued, will they have enough food, will they survive against the bear haunting them. The isolation alone can bring someone go mad, how does one get through that day by day for all that time.
Candyman (2021)
Underwhelming
First of all this is a sequel to the original that was made in 1992, not a remake. The story line is not bad but the execution failed it for me. I didnt find it scary. Its missing the suspense. It became just the usual slasher film but you dont get to see all the killings. You get to see a few stupid people looking in the mirror saying Candyman 5 times aware that they could be killed.
No Time to Die (2021)
No Time To Say Goodbye
Daniel Craig did a great job in his last time as James Bond. Although this is not the last 007 film, what will they do when they cant use the line, "Bond, its James Bond" anymore. It is the signature line of this franchise.
I am not a fan of the new 007. I didnt feel the charisma or energy coming from her. It has nothing to do with gender but she just didnt seem assertive enough. I think they could have picked a better suited actress/actor for the role.
I like how they finally have a real love interest for Bond, and a child as well, made it more realistic. It will be interesting to see where the franchise go from here to introduce a replacement.
It is a good exit story for Daniel Craig to go out with a bang...literally. I dont mind the length of the movie, it didnt really drag and you get your moneys worth.
You Belong to Me (2021)
Not a Bad Thriller
The good - the acting except for Casey's murmuring, it got a little difficult to hear what he was saying. Good plot, good cast. Good scenery.
I like Sam Claflin and got used to seeing him in romantic drama like Me Before You, Adrift, Love Rosie which fitted him better, thats just my opinion.
I didnt like the empty dialogues between James and Lucy and James and Grace. Relationships were formed in a short amount of time during this seduction part of the movie but it seems rushed and forced. I didnt see the chemistry. No relationship development to show the audience that these attractions towards James could not be resisted. And near the ending when Phillip finally got a copy of James' book and realised that it wasnt the brother but the ex that has been terrorizing him. How did Philip come up with the rest of the story about who killed Daphne and her best friend? I appreciate that there have to be a twist with a good thriller but where is the evidence to show that besides the real identity of James in the book? I know it was mentioned in the beginning that the boyfriend was abusive but that was no proof of the murders. He could just be blaming Philip for Daphne's death and that alone sent him off the edge. Whether its the screenplay or the editing that needs a bit of refining to make this a better thriller.
Blood Red Sky (2021)
Hijack Thriller in a Horror Genre
If you are a fan of horror genre or vampires you would enjoy this movie. I definitely like the twist, I dont think Ive seen that before. Its an unexpected gem. I like the Mother and Son relationship which makes this more than just a horror movie. I appreciate the other critics reference to Snakes on the Plane and Train to Busan similarity but I think this has its own merits for originality. It is action packed, thrilling and fast paced.
Gold (2022)
Greed and Gold
I like Zac Efron and was intrigued to see how the movie made his looks disappear lol.
Movies about greed are interesting. You get to see what people can be capable of. Things I didn't like - the beginning didnt quite set the theme, it didnt really explain the time (era) for which the movie is set. How did Zac get to where he is besides wanting a job at the compound. During the time that he is waiting by the gold, im not quite sure what happened and what didnt because at some point surely he would have been dilusional. Is the girl real? Is she actually looking for her sister? Where did she come from? Who is she? I didnt like her accent or the character. Reminded me of Mad Max scenes. The ending was rushed and not well thought of. I wanted something more to happen to the other guy and not just get killed as soon as he got back. I do like the twist that he just held out and waited for Zac to die of hunger or something.
