The acting was great in this film. Unfortunately the music was inappropriate at times and actually hindered the mood. The raging electric guitar during a poignant scene in the hospital was particularly jarring! Just showing how very important music is to the film and likely why so many ratings are low.

Really bad story line, continuity sucked, acting marginal at best. But the worst was all this to just be an anti-abortion propaganda film. Awful awful film. Don't waste your time if you're looking for a horror film. I guess the horror is that I sat through this film.

I don't understand the high rating of this film. I do like Casey Affleck and other actors in it. They seemingly gave their parts their all. However the editing of the film is where it fell apart. Flashbacks were meaningless at times, such as the brief flash of Lee on the boat while he's driving to the hospital where his brother is. One would think you would be thinking of the person in the hospital at the time. There were several like this. Also, the musical score was strange and did not add to the film. The classical music stuck out like a sore thumb. Certainly did not add to the mood.

This is a beautiful film shot in beautiful locations. Dialogue may seem dull and droll to the critics but it is pensive and just enough. It has you questioning what is the main character thinking initially but all flows together seemlessly through time. I love the occasional film that is as thoughtful and wonderfully produced and acted as this. I highly recommend The Sea of Trees.
