Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Hard to watch
Though there is a ton of explosions and phaser fire it has the feel of watching paint dry. Forcing a male persona on the character that they chose to make the whole series about says a lot. I only read the synopsis list for season two and I think I'll spare myself. Maybe her daddy wanted a boy. Other than DS9 they haven't focused on one character so much and even in DS9 they eventually had to look into the other characters. I can't see this lasting that long. No depth to the characters. Too much pathos and nothing uplifting about it. Even the tech that they employ was attempting to "wow" the audience but it reminisced to a certain other science fiction universe when it came to holograms for communication. I could even live with them "borrowing" from other iterations of the franchise as they have done that repeatedly as any person who has followed Star Trek for any length of time can tell you. The thing is that they are trying to make it their own with overly dramatic intensity as if their choice of beverage is going to decide the fate of the universe. I bought my copy of the first season cheap on EBay and I think I'll spare myself any future investments. I certainly wouldn't pay monthly for this.
The Mummy (2017)
Waste of time and money
Tom fails as a rogue. As a super spy in Mission Impossible yes. As a mysterious crime solver as Jack Reacher yes. As someone trying to set themselves up for a sequel to this no! The only surprise was having Dr Jeckle make an appearance. Save you money and time. Predictable from beginning to end.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Grab your wallet and hold tight.
Once again no real full story. As I sat hoping for a helping of goodness I was left disappointed. Just about all the characters in the Marvel/Disney universe are brought together only to see them all torn asunder. Marvel/Disney sets you up with only part of the story. Looks like the Bad Guy has won and we are left wondering what will happen in the sequel. I realize this is a time honored tradition that dates back to the days of the "cliff hanger" shows like Flash Gordon but when you are paying the money we do to see a feature film I think it is time to finish a story. Yes another reach for our collective wallets. And now the collective Marvel/Disney people will go back to all the separate stories of all the remaining heroes and we will be left wondering how it will all shake out till they reunite them for another "Blockbuster"! At least those of us who have knowledge of the comic books have some comfort. The biggest spoiler of all so stop reading if you don't want to know. Yes, Thanos has all the stones but the "time" stone can basically redo all that Thanos did when he removed half of the beings in the universe. Take heart. Marvel/Disney would never really do away with any of their moneymaker characters for real. Just once I would like to see them refrain from the opportunity to blatently demonstrate the greed that pervades Hollywood. Just like the remaining heroes I guess I'll just have to decide next time if I will purchase the disc when it is released or wait till it is on Netflix or in a bargain bin.
The Equalizer (1985)
Ex secret agent turned hero for hire
Edward Woodward is an ex secret agent turned hero for hire. His "particular skill set" is now being used to help the helpless. A benevolent man of mystery. If you enjoy this genre you will probably like this. Strange music choices though. Stuart Copeland of the "Police" was in charge of the music and it almost seems inappropriate at times.
