Color Out of Space (2019)
Nicholas Cage RUINED an otherwise amazing movie
Seriously, who keeps casting this guy? he can't act. I very much liked the story but the whole movie I was hoping Cage would be killed off. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
Midsommar (2019)
Unsettling and phenomenal
To me, this is what horror should be. No cheap jump scares. No brain dead decisions made by characters in an obvious attempt to force the story forward. Just a really unsettling story with amazing camera work and acting. LOVE the juxtaposition of the idyllic scenery and the pristine frocks worn by everyone versus the horrors happening just underneath the surface. Give this movie a watch, you (probably) won't regret it. I'm not really a horror fan but movies like Hereditary, The Babadook, and Midsommar are making me reconsider that stance.
Men in Black: International (2019)
Score depends on if you know what the MIB is about
If you haven't seen the old MIB movies, this is an okay movie. Like a 6/10. Super predictable but some novel concepts and good production values.
If you have seen the older MIB movies though, especially the first 2- this is a travesty. There is NONE of what made the old movies awesome. The gravitas, the mystique of the MIB, and the intelligence, all gone. Frankly it's been a downward slide since the first one but even the worst MIB movie prior to this still had... "it". With the newest entry though, the franchise is MIB in name only.
The writing is terrible, the plot is meh, and it's just dumb. The movie is dumb. 3/10.
TL;DR if you're looking for an MIB movie, this ain't it chief. Hard pass. If you don't know anything about the franchise, and want something to pass the time, might be worth it.
God Eater (2015)
So unoriginal and formulaic it hurts to watch
It's cringeworthy how bad the writing is. It's as if the writers sat down and compiled every cliche possible and then got to work. The saddest part is the action is quite good. The monsters are awesome. Everything else just absolutely ruins it though. The characters are so stupid it hurts. Especially the two main ones. It's hard to watch something so dumb so this is going to get a hard pass from me.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Tom Holland was born to play Spider-Man
I was skeptical but this movie sealed it for me. Tom Holland is Spider-Man.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Way too much pandering
Could have been a phenomenal show. However it spends too much time and effort trying to be PC, much to the detriment of the show. If you're looking for a gritty show dealing with the subject material, this isn't really it.
The Signal (2014)
Writing so lazy it's cringeworthy.
Intelligent writers portray their characters as smart by having them do smart things. They show via actions. Dumb writers tell you their characters are smart and rely on you to take their word for it. This movie's writers fall squarely into the second category. Unwatchable movie due to how stupid the plot is and how dumb the MIT genius characters are. Hard pass.
