True Detective (2014)
Waste of Time
This TV series 'True Detective' tries to hard to be artistic. It seriously struggles with mastering the Euro style slow burner and appears to force artistic elements. The attempt to emulate the slow-burn Nordic Noir style feels out of place, as the show fails to capture the depth and complexity of its European counterparts.
Instead, it relies heavily on American cliches such as the forced at whatever cost of the inclusion of a female lead, the hero of the show, LGBTQI angle, and multi-racial components, which come across as forced and lacks cohesion.
As much as i wanted to like the series, sadly the show lacks soul and fails to develop the complex character flaws characteristic of Nordic Noir. Additionally, the now very common element of weak male characters further detract from the overall quality of the show. Ultimately, 'True Detective' fails to improve over time and may not be worth the investment.
Silo (2023)
It's for the patient. Slow Slow Slow paced
"Silos," the TV series, had a lot of potential and initially intrigued me with its concept. However, the pacing of the show became a major issue, causing it to drag significantly. It felt like they stretched what could have been accomplished in just three episodes into a ten-episode season.
While I haven't read the books the series is based on, if they follow a similar storyline, I would probably skip ahead to the last chapter. Even after finishing the entire season, I'm left with unanswered questions about what lies outside the silo and how the characters ended up there in the first place. It can be frustrating not to have these essential aspects explained.
As for my patience, I'll probably wait for season 2 and catch just the season premiere and season finale episodes. Alternatively, I might resort to watching one of those convenient YouTube recap videos to get a quick summary of the key events.
Prodigal Son (2019)
Yet Another Poor American Police Procedural
I should have known better than to watch another American procedural. Regrettably, "The Prodigal Son" follows the disappointing trend of American procedurals, failing to deliver on its promise. It joins a long line of letdowns, leaving viewers yearning for more original and skillfully executed storytelling.
I'm not a fan of this show. It seems like another attempt to copy Dexter's success with a intriguing serial killer. I was hoping for something more original and thrilling, like a combination of Dexter and Criminal Minds, but instead I got this nonsense.
One of the show's missed opportunities is the portrayal of a series lead with mental health/illness issues, a concept reminiscent of Homeland. However, the execution lacks depth and fails to capitalise on the potential for compelling character development
The writing is poor and the jokes are not funny. The writing falls flat, especially when it comes to the supposed funny lines. The show's attempts at humor often miss the mark, leaving the viewer unamused and questioning the choice of a comedy consultant
The flashbacks are annoying and distracting.
The excessive use of irritating and infuriating flashbacks further detracts from the overall viewing experience. Instead of adding depth or enhancing the narrative, they become a source of frustration.
.
"The Prodigal Son" falls short of its potential, delivering a disappointing blend of familiar elements from other shows.
This show had the potential to be a captivating series, its execution falls short. Weak writing, unsuccessful attempts at humor, and frustrating flashbacks contribute to a very poor viewing experience.
Braqueurs (2021)
Utter nonsense.
What a waste of money on their part and time on my end.
"Ganglands" is a shallow TV series that fails to deliver anything new at all or exciting to the crime drama genre.
Everything they tried and failed to deliver has been done better a 1000 times.
The storyline is predictable and childish, lacking any depth or complexity. The characters are all one-dimensional and the acting is mediocre at best. Overall, "Ganglands" is a disappointing show that is not worth your time. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for quality entertainment. Yet another disappointment from the folks at Netflix.
Wisting (2019)
Why Americanise it?
Really wanted to like this. I could have liked this if they didn't add the American element and Wisting's annoying as hell daughter.
Yet another ruined Nordic Noir by trying to target and appease potential American audience.
If Americans love it, they will make their own "inspired" watered down version like The Bridge & The Killing.
Mayans M.C. (2018)
Disappointed
I really wanted to love this show, but it just lacks substance. If you don't watch it, you are not missing anything.
If empty calories was a tv series.
The Big Family Cooking Showdown (2017)
Loved Season 1, Hated Season 2.
Whoever is responsible for changing the hosts/judges, should be fired together with Tommy Banks and Angellica Bell. This second season was a great let down. If there is a third season, revert back to almost everything in Season 1, especially Nadiya Hussain.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
Prolonging it, weakened it.
All the idiots are men, most if not all the heroes/praiseworthy characters are women. I am all for female empowerment, but the exhaustive feminist agenda ruined this show for me.
Utred's daughter is smart, his son weak & useless.
King Alfred's daughter is brilliant, his son is an idiot.
The disowned Mercia siblings, same story exemplary daughter, idiotic son.
The list is endless. I'm out, enjoy on your own.
Mo Gilligan: Momentum (2019)
Not funny.
Wanted so bad to like it, I couldn't. Seems people who like him, have been fans for a while. As a potential new fan, he bombed. Not funny. He did try to go for a certain shock factor (the ohh did he just say that), didn't work. Couldn't finish it.
Night Hunter (2018)
Really Disappointing
A crime was committed, Blackmail or nepotism, what else could have made such a talented cast agree to be part of this incompetent effort.
You give this storyline to a decent screenwriter, add an above average director, Get a competent editing team, and this cast would have produced a masterpiece.
Madam Secretary (2014)
America is right, Everyone else is wrong.
Simplistic, idiotic, offensive to almost anyone who isn't American.
Bow down world and kiss America's ring.
