Rabo de Peixe (2023)
Poor direction and action scenes that belong in a spoof movie...
It's not all bad here but the bad bits are indeed REALLY bad. The voice over from Pepe Rapazote is mostly cringy, the script is often very amateurish and the action scenes involving the police are so terrible that look like they were taken from a poorly made spoof movie. If there's a second season I'll definitely watch it but they gotta up their game to get anywhere near the level of other foreign TV shows like 'La Casa de Papel' and other much better crafted shows. Overall, a disappointing effort which has received a lot of undeserved hype, and as a Portuguese I look forward to seeing a real quality show being produced within our shores.
The Last of Us (2023)
It's starting to feel like a poor remake
The biggest risk in doing an adaptation of a videogame which is as story driven and cinematic as 'The last of us' is that if you're not careful, it may end up looking like a poor remake. And that's what's clearly happening with this show, as some of the most pivotal scenes have been handled badly and the acting of the main protagonists in those scenes often pale in comparison to what we've seen in the videogame. Unfortunately more and more I'm starting to believe that 'The Last of us' didn't need a TV adaptation, as the videogame gave us everything we could possibly want and some... Would have made more sense to expand its world by creating a whole new story, with new characters, instead of giving us an inferior remake of a videogame which you could hardly do justice, let alone improve upon.
The Last of Us: Infected (2023)
Has the potential to be one of the most overrated series of all time
How's this getting +9 ratings on every episode so far is baffling. There's hardly any sense of purpose and the tension is kept to a minimum... Just 3 characters strolling around, which is fine in a videogame where you actually doing something rather than just staring at a screen. In a TV show though you need way more plot threads to keep things interesting. Like a video-game, this feels way too mechanical so far and will only appeal to fans of the video-game that it portrays. Let's see how it unfolds and if they can find a better balance between being faithful to its source material, while adding something to keep viewers engaged.
