How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)
How to leave your dragon
First of all, let me start by pointing out the following: the fact that the ending of a movie moves you to tears, doesn't make it WOW THE MOST AMAZING MOVIE OF ALL TIME.
I am a huge fan of the franchise but this movie was a huge let-down. I agree with the criticism I've already read on this page. Story underdeveloped, the villain extremely underwhelming... The whole movie is basically shown in the trailer. Sure, I had a tear in my eye when the dragons leave at the end, but hey, it's toothless and Hiccup... The hidden world only seems to be a few miles away from the island and is accessed through a simple waterfall and a cave. Why then can't the dragons just move there, safely out of the way, but come and visit sometimes? Why do they suddenly turn savage? Why does Toothless go away and just leave Hiccup behind, without saying goodbye, when last movie he would have given his own life to save him? Just a lot of loose ends and irregularities, really. Very dissappointing.
Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)
See it for what it is.
I feel like some of these reviewers want to see a movie that chills them out of their skin regardless, and are disappointed when the movie turns out as something less haunting, less than the perfect horror movie. Yes, this movie had some in-depth character development and family drama. Does it make it a worse horror movie? I don't think so. The final scenes genuinely brought a tear to my eye. I didn't find it out of place. Don't forget that the insidious movies are all about the further, the light and dark that wait for us when we pass. It's only natural that they talk about the deceased at one point, and the effect they still have on us living people.
There's no rule book that says that horror movies can't contain some family drama, some romantic notions... Stop expecting them to be 100% tense and frightening all-the-time and you should be fine watching this.
Exorcist: The Beginning (2004)
Boring chain of events
I generally found this movie dull and lacking in story. Nothing much really happens. The characters are highly stereotypical, the plot and ending predictable. There's no action whatsoever, up until the last 5 minutes of the movie, where we finally get to see the demon. And even so: all the priest really finds out is that Sarah's posessed. We discover nothing about the demon, other than the name that is mentioned on the dvd case. Who is he? How did he get there? How old is he? What's with the church? How did Sarah die? Was it a last act of revenge from the demon? Is it vanquished then, or not? And who the bloody hell is the man who enrolls our priest in the first place? Why does it seem like he knows stuff that we don't? I feel like the viewer is left with a lot of questions when the end credits start rolling. For some movies, that works. Here: not so much. Dissapointing.
