Roar: Lions of the Kalahari (2005)
A Beautiful Film
This film is so beautifully shot. It has stunning footage of lions and other animals surviving in Africa. I highly recommend this film. It didn't really make use of the 3D. i was more annoyed having to wear the glasses then it was worth but none the less the film is wonderful. Its almost like a real life Lion King. Its also educational which is always important. We should never stop learning and this film taught me stuff i never knew.
Some of the action shots are actually very engaging and got a guttural reaction out of me. Watching the lioness's catch their pray was amazing. There is also one shot in the film that i cannot stop thinking about. It is an aerial shot that shows all the zebras and other animals returning to the water hole after it rains. AMAZING!
If you get a chance to see this film, i think you should.
Blades of Glory (2007)
Will Ferrell does not Disappoint!!
This movie is a must see. If you enjoy Ferrell you will love this film. It is just a feel good laugh out loud comedy. There is not a bad performance in the movie. I didn't care for the Hector (Nick Swardson) story line. It was mildly funny in a sort of creepy/annoying way. That is the only blemish on this hilarious movie though. Ferrell and Heder play very well off each other. I am glad to see Heder play something a little different then Dynamite. Yes he sounds very similar but thats his voice. Poehler and Arnett make a great pair that you love to hate. Its great to see Craig T. Nelson doing what he does best, playing a coach. The end of this film rides the line of being either so stupid or comic genius, For my money its GENIUS!!
This film is a must see. Especially if you are a Ferrell fan. It is great. Full of new lines destined to become classics quoted by the teens of America.
Wild Hogs (2007)
Very bland with a few out loud laughs
I went into this movie optimistic. I think that William H. Macy is a great actor, Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence are funny, and i have enjoyed much of John Travoltas previous work. I wasn't necessarily disappointed but at the same time i don't think it was wonderful. It was sort of bland. Many old played out jokes, many of which fell flat. The plot line was feel good, very predictable but gave you a kinda warm fuzzy feeling at the end. I think the two best performances and funniest parts of this film are Hector Jimenez as a store clerk and Kyle Gass as a singer at the Chile festival. I do think that this film is geared more for middle aged people, mainly men which may be why i didn't enjoy it as much, i'm a 21 year old. All in all, it was OK.
If you ride a Harley, are middle aged, or are going through or have recently gone through a mid life crisis, you will probably love it.
The Departed (2006)
A Great Film
This is the best film i have seen in God only knows how long. It was amazing.
Every performance in this film is flawless. Mark Whalberg is amazing, i didn't know he was that good. Jack Nicholson is the top of his game. Yes he is always amazing but in this film i think he is extra wonderful. The scene where he is talking about smelling a rat is stunning. I could go on and on but as i said there is not a bad performance in this movie.
Now let us talk about the genius that is Martin Scorsese. Now i am a little biased on the judging of directing because i think Scorsese is brilliant but, if you don't already agree with me, see this film and i am sure you will. The film is stunning. This has to be Scorsese's year at the Oscars or something is up.
The writing of the film is brilliant. You must see it to believe it. You will not be able to predict a move in the movie, especially the ending.
Highly recommend this movie to anyone who wants to see a great piece of art.
Babel (2006)
3/4 Great.
Babel is almost a great film. However only see this film if you are ready to think, and possibly get a little depressed.
There are four story lines in this film that entangle in a very interesting way. I feel however that it would be a much more effective film if there were only three story lines. That is not because four is to many, its simply because only three of them really worked. The story lines that followed the Moroccan family, Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, and the Mexican nanny and the kids were great. The story line that took place in Japan however did not work. It was totally unnecessary and took me out of the story every time it came up. It interrupted the flow of the movie. I did not understand the need for this story line. However, if you can sit through the unnecessary parts of the film and weed them out then it is quite a wonderful story.
As for the acting there was not a weak performance in this movie. If you want to see a lot of really great work on the actors part then definitely see this movie. Brad Pitt breaks your heart. No weak performances but i think the stand out great performances in this are Brad Pitt, Adriana Barraza, and Gael Garcia Bernal.
The cinematography in this movie was beautiful. They made full use of every landscape and backdrop they had available to them.
A great movie overall. My only real complaint is the very big unnecessary story line in the film that took place in Japan.
Right Foot, Left Foot or The Daring Young Man in the Cubicle (2004)
What a wonderful movie
This movie was excellent. Such an original idea and so well executed. I was very impressed and entertained. I would have to say my favorite scene in it is the one at the costume party. I don't want to ruin it for anyone so I'm not going to say much but the age difference between the characters and the use of that device was very interesting. I very much enjoyed the lead actor. He was wonderful. For that mater i would have to say that all of the acting in it was wonderful. THe direction and writing of this film were very well done as well. It was a seamless piece that entertains and brings you into the world of the characters. VERY VERY VERY well done. I just wish it was longer.
