Geomsaekeoreul Ibryeokhaseyo: WWW (2019)
Worth your time
A Korean drama that portrays feminism at it's best.
Politics: Barro and Unicorn are 2 different giant web portal companies with very different work cultures. One is diverse and the other conservative with govt. support. The story evolves around these 2 work space with reasonable causes. Along the storyline, there are lessons learnt on friendship, (business and personal) relationships and trust.
Love/Romance: There are 3 kinds of love in this drama. 1. An elder woman falling in love with a young man, 2. Love grew from a fan 3. A married couple realizing love only after their divorce.
All of these characters played their part well. It tends to be a bit slow on certain episodes but it is bearable and doesn't end up using the fast-forward button.
What I like:
Im Soo-jung and Jang Ki-yong's are superb as a couple.
Other main and supporting actors and actresses also plays it's best role to make this drama entertaining.
My take:
This is good if you want to lay back, relax and enjoy watching a kdrama. The rich 'looking' status in this drama doesn't just come easily from the characters. They work hard to reach the level they are at. Unlike some kdrama, the characters are born rich and famous without any probable reason.
Laipeu (2018)
Different angle of life in a hospital
We have great actors in this series.
Be ready with serious discussions, new discoveries, hidden agendas, dark secrets in running a hospital.
If you are wondering how a hospital is being run, why there are so many red tapes, why a hospital is transforming into a money generating giant, why there are change of ownership, merging of hospitals etc., this series will be an overview of all that.
It is a bit unfortunate though, as the ending ended with a feeling of the problems will repeat itself within the hospital all over again. Perhaps that is the reason why each hospital needs responsible, committed doctors and staff to safeguard the vision and purpose of the hospital.
Dukun (2018)
Expected more substance and relation to the real murder
The real Mona Fandey case 25 years ago shocked the nation.
To me, this movie was not an adaptation to Mona Fandey case because the story line, the characters and the character's (death) sentencing is totally different.
Umi (as Diana Dahlan, the Dukun) did a great job in her acting and it is her acting that makes it a watchable movie.
There were a lot of loop holes in this movie. The guy who controls the lawyer's daughter is not a murder suspect? Why her assistant did not face the gallows like her?
The storyline can be more exciting if more suspense is created when the lawyer and the detective do the search for the lawyer's daughter. It is unclear and somehow waste of time seeing them search at places with nothing achieved as there were 'forces that is blinding their search.' That was absolutely unclear.
Bear in mind this movie was made 12 year ago. I appreciate those days when special effects were not overused. The characters of this movie are down to earth real without airbrush or Photoshop effect. The narrative and story line is slow but full of discovery.
Watch it if you have an appreciation of good old Malay movies with old scenes, buildings and vehicles.
