The Scientist (2020)
It is what it is
This is a strange movie, because it technically isn't too good but to say that it didn't hold my interest would be a lie. The greatest aspect was the idea of the events leading up to a zombie outbreak instead of focusing on the outbreak itself, which I don't think is a spoiler since the movie is clear from the beginning that said outbreak is coming. This is a unique way to tell a zombie tale.
The production value is what it is. It isn't necessarily bad but it's far from good; perhaps boring would be the proper choice of word here. That said, the film maintains itself through a compelling performance from its leading actor Robb Hudspeth. He portrays a wide range of emotions throughout and he is mostly convincing at all times, which is a must since he is in nearly every scene of the movie.
It isn't a complete winner and it isn't something I would even go so far as to recommend, but it's just compelling enough that I look forward to seeing what Derrick Granado does next.
Silhouette (2019)
Not for the youtube generation
I'm going to start by saying that when it comes to a movie like this it isn't always going to be loved. It has its good reviews and it has its bad ones and I don't think it would be right to say who is wrong and who is right.
The director, Mitch McLeod, has created something that is filled with twists and turns and requires the maximum amount of attention to grasp the scope of the dark and haunting story that is being told here. Let's get something out of the way right now: this is a bleak movie. Anybody watching this who might prefer something that allows the viewer to breathe may want to look elsewhere because this is not that movie. There isn't a lot of hope in this one. It's filled with grim imagery and a depressing storyline that can only lead one to surmise that our storyteller's outlook on life is just as dreary as the film he has created.
This movie is another low budget effort, which is my favorite because it really shows you what the film makers are all about. They work with what they have here, and the result is something that I have fallen in love with. When met with such low budgets, one must have a compelling story and hopefully strong performers on hand to really drive it in and it certainly isn't lacking in these departments at all. Every performance in this movie goes beyond expectations and the performance of April Hartman is particularly heartbreaking.
This movie is not for everybody. It is slow, it is upsetting, and I agree with anybody who thinks that it might be a tad too long. In fact, if it hadn't been for the excessive length, I might give this a perfect score. It doesn't really detract from the experience, and I recommend this movie to anybody who doesn't mind something that takes a little time to get to its destination.

There's probably a timeline where this movie is good
Oh boy. What to say on this one. I'm leaving it a 5 and it's almost painful to do it because the moments that are great in this movie really are great but the ones that aren't significantly drag it down.
As you've already seen in other reviews, this movie deals with separate timelines. It does it in a way that is somewhat unique and I appreciate what writer and director Bruce Wemple set out to achieve, but it feels like he either didn't quite understand his own concept or didn't have the time to flesh it out. Where most indie movies could use some time shaved off of them, this is a rare example where I feel like we could have easily had another 15 to 20 minutes added on to really develop this story, or maybe we could have lost the nearly 20 minutes of "buildup". I appreciate a story taking its time in the beginning for character development but this bit did little for developing its characters and until the end their characteristics are nearly indistinguishable.
The cinematography is another thing that aggravated me throughout because at times it was simply splendid and at others it was painful to look at. How do you get something so right in one moment and so wrong at others? This question is the one I found myself asking with so many pieces of this puzzle.
The one thing that is never off course is the acting. Bravo to every performer in this movie, as they all did very well in their respective roles and the performances all felt natural and comfortable.
Overall, this isn't a terrible movie by any means. It has some genuine humor and some legitimately frightening bits to it as well. At times the differing styles don't always mix the way they should but there was only one moment where it completely took me out. I can't decide if this movie was too ambitious for its own good or not ambitious enough, which is also strange. This entire thing it a conundrum that I would neither recommend for or against.
I'll be interested in seeing where Wemple goes from here.
Inner City Rats (2019)
Great low budget
This movie was better than I would have expected it to be. Great soundtrack and characters and both the action and comedy deliver as well as can be expected, especially on this kind of budget.
I can genuinely say I had a smile on my face the whole time.
Survive the Night (2020)
Bruce Willis saves the day
And not in the way that you're used to with his action hero antics, but he is the only thing about the movie that's any good at all. Without him, the movie is mind numbingly bad with little in the way of saving grace.
Who the hell decided that Chad Michael Murray should be allowed to keep acting? Seriously? Who did it? I need to know.

Believe the good reviews.
I stumbled across this flick based on and imdb recommendation next another movie I had rated. I didn't know anything about it going in other than the brief synopsis offered on the page so I had no idea what to expect.
The frights and delights are in full swing here and I often felt myself on the edge of my seat. The gore is intense and the relationship is very believable. Excellent example of how to do a good psychological horror movie.
Please give this one a chance.
Cherokee Creek (2018)
Don't waste your time on this garbage
Seriously, don't do it.
I love a good horror comedy and I was excited to check this out after reading some of the user reviews (although the overall rating should have been a dead give away).
I can get behind low budget, but this is just bad with very little redeeming qualities. The camera work is depressing. The acting is mostly awful (with a few exceptions). The script had no appeal and the few scenes that DID manage to be funny went on entirely too long.
I don't know if the majority of these reviews are coming from friends and family or if there is just that many braindead people out there but this is just not a good movie.
