Blonde (2022)
Superb
Strong David Lynch vibes going on, creating an unhinged, dreamlike feel. There is also a brilliant disregard for handholding the audience through the story, whilst the cinematography is incredible in parts, perfectly recreating the look of classic photo shoots. There is some really impressive directing which is definitely more towards an arthouse, indie style than your typical Netflix movie. It may not appeal to those who like the multiplex sugar rush type films, but for anyone who likes a bit of craft and creativity this is going to hit a few buttons. Great acting, especially from Ana de Armas and Adrien Brody, help this all add up to a bit of a gem!
Red Rose (2022)
Really bad.
Quite possibly the worst thing I've watched in a long time. The camerawork, direction and internal logic of the plot are bad enough, but the acting is on a whole other level, absolutely appalling. How this got approved for the BBC is mind boggling.
Severance (2022)
Television of the highest quality
Get through ep1, and then from that point on it is simply superb. One of the best things I've watched in quite a while. Great acting across the board, a strange, somewhat disconcerting atmosphere, and a genuine sense of intrigue. Already pining for S2.
Pieces of Her (2022)
A tale of two actors.
Toni Collette is superb, as usual. Bella Heathcote on the other hand is awful, to the point of being unwatchable!
What should have been a really gripping story is turned into Heathcote pulling a string of very strange and baffling faces which often don't seem to really reflect an actual emotion.
Collette however, can somehow tell you absolutely everything about the character right at that moment, without moving a muscle in her face. Extraordinary.
O.J.: Made in America (2016)
Masterful
A superb documentary which presents very detailed and well researched historical strands until they intertwine at O. J.'s first Trial. By the time you get to the verdict not only has the decision been explained and contextualised, but it feels entirely inevitable!
Furthermore, the the vast array of 'talking heads', many of whom are key characters in the events, are left to freely air their views, clearly revealing the sinners, saints and those in between.
Highly recommended.

Missed Opportunity.
There is a great series somewhere in this, they just didn't quite get there. It's so muddled in its plotting and structure, chucking way too much at the core story, which is a shame as some of the ideas and scenes really hint at how good this could have been.
On the positive side though. Martin Donovan is incredible and steals every scene he's in.
Midnight Mass (2021)
An intriguing start which rapidly descends into nonsense
It firmly believes itself to be intelligent and insightful, but is nothing more than total gibberish. And those endless monologues the characters engage in, so, so boring!
