Dood eind (2006)
dead end? dead movie!
OK, let me start off by saying something nice: 1: some of the special effects were quite good. (some weren't) 2: the lighting was very well done.
now, because I don't want to get too upset about it I will keep it short.
it sucked...it really did. there was no suspense at all. You'll almost fall asleep while waiting for something scary to happen.
The scenario and the director are most to blame. I can't believe he won an award for this! the acting is quite bad but mainly because of the dialog. I'm sure this is the best they could do with it.
the fact that it all happens in Scotland is just ridiculous! and the dutch woman trying to speak Scottish is just pathetic. I mean - they used Scottish kids in the movie so why couldn't they use a Scottish actress? trés horrible! (horror in the wrong kind of way.)
yet what disturbs me the most is the ending. that's probably why it's called dead end. because there is no. It's like they couldn't come up with a good ending so they let the actors improvise or something like that...hell, I don't know.
What I do understand is Tarantino's companies' interest in it because with the humor and real horror I'm sure Tarantino is able to bring in it can make it a good movie. (if he uses different actors and changes the script.) - but that's why they said they were interested in making a remake and not having it released in America.
so, I gave it 2 stars for the effects and lighting. and that's the most I can give to this piece of dogpoo. horror at its worst!
Rabbits (2002)
It's probably the rain.
I must start off by saying that only, and I repeat, only if you are a true lynch fan- you can appreciate this movie.
Now, being the guy I am, I really tried to figure out what this is all about. But as it is with most lynch films, you can never really figure it all out. You can only enjoy what you are watching, and create theories of what you think is happening.
Of course I'm wrong, and I think there is no right in this case. but when I started watching I noticed that some sentences that the rabbits are saying should be placed in order. When you watch it for the first time it may seem that they are just talking a load of nonsense, scary nonsense I must add, because what they are saying has a creepy feeling behind it.
But I wrote the dialog of all 8 episodes down and however it leaves a lot still unexplained; it also made some sense to the story line.
*SPOILER?* When placed in correct order, you have a dialog of the rabbits missing someone, and/or a dog. now, as they are rabbits and refer to each other as human beings, it would not be surprising if the dog was a human-alike creature too. now, something has happened to the dog, something bad. this, you can hear in the monologue, repeated but not exactly the same by all 3 rabbits. The fact that the man-rabbit goes outside and the mentioning of "it's probably the rain", I think, refers to them, waiting for the dog to come home. "He goes out at night, and comes home in the morning." *End Spoiler.*
This spoiler is only a storyline on the surface. Of course this movie goes much deeper, but since thát is something we will never find out. (Lynch won't tell us either) It is up to yourself what you think is the message behind this movie. That is something you have to decide for yourself, and I would recommend you'll think about that before you read a so-called spoiler from someone that gives his theory. It can really influence your own thoughts and I think Lynch wants you to think for yourself, not many people do that nowadays.
Anyways, for this is truly a dark, frightening, but very much weird experience, I would like to recommend it to all who like David lynch. especially if you can appreciate his short movies and eraserhead.
It's a masterpiece that can inspire every film maker.
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
no reason not to like this movie.
I must start of by saying this was one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.
First of all, the suspense was really killing throughout the whole movie, and even at times when really nothing much was happening, I was still afraid that somehow it could all turn into a nightmare in less than a second. I must give a lot of credits to the music/sound as well because it did not only influence my own film-making, but It really completed this movie.
The acting and directing was superb, I really don't have much to say about it. Lynch was Lynch, only the surrealistic plot seemed less hard to believe than some other films he had made. there's nothing wrong with any of his films, I just thought it would be worth mentioning.
I suggest that, when you want to watch this movie, that you pay close attention to ALL details given in this film. from the very first second it begins! I cannot stress that enough. I do not want to give any spoilers because if you only know 1 it would be a hell of a lot less fun to watch. however, if you have seen this movie and still do not get it, just watch it again until you're really sure you can't figure it out by yourself.
I can only give away that the outcome of this movie is worth thinking about. Oh, and I'd like to recommend having a high IQ for this film, or watch it with someone with a high IQ. Cause it will help. It won't be crucial, but it will help.
Now, I started writing this with a rating of 9 out of 10 stars (9/10) but when I tried to explain why I didn't gave it 10 stars, I couldn't find any possible explanation. So here you have it, 10 stars. Lynch is without a doubt one of the greatest directors of all time. this movie convinced me of that.
