Untold (2021)
Infuriating
This is a good documentary. Unfortunately, they don't do a good job of portraying the catfisher Tuiasosopo as the horrible person he is. There is no excuse for what Te'o was put through.
Ted Lasso (2020)
4 Episodes In. I'm Hooked!
Wow. This is a fresh and inventive sports comedy. I'm on episode 4 and Ted Lasso's character is watchable for all the right reasons. He's completely unaware of what is in the works behind the scenes. His endearing attitude and love for all is so genuine. It is impossible to not root for his success. 10/10!
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
Remarkable
Completely engrossing from the moment this documentary begins. This is because of the octopus. As a consistent viewer of documentaries, I will put this right up there with the best I have ever seen. Highly recommended for all ages. It's a triumph.
Be Water (2020)
Bruce Lee - A Powerful Figure
The best part of this documentary is that Bruce Lee is almost always on screen. We saw so little of him because of his early demise. 30 for 30 does it again with this gem. It is chronologically presented and very in-depth. Highly recommended.
Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich (2020)
Horrifying Doc That Stays With You
Vividly detailed account of Epstein's devilish treatment of young innocent girls. This documentary will anger you. It will leave you scratching your head. Hard to stop watching once you start. We already know that the rich and powerful get away with grievous acts. Will this documentary change anything for the better? I certainly hope so. What a tragedy
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez (2020)
If you start watching, you will finish this documentary.
This enthralling documentary will make you sad. It will enrage you. It will also cause utter frustration at why this young boy died for absolutely no reason. I watch many documentaries. This one in particular has remained with me long after the final credits rolled. What a senseless tragedy.
Booksmart (2019)
Almost Great
Some obvious political statements throw this film from where it could have gone, which is a shame. Both main characters excel in their roles. Liberal Hollywood is going to far.
Arctic (2018)
Mikkelsen is mighty
Laborious. Bleak. Sad. Colorless.
Barely a word is spoken. Mikkelsen is rarely out of your sight, and his skill is on full display. Stay for the well-earned payoff. One of my favorite movies so far this year.
Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes (2019)
Descriptive and Chilling
All the facts are laid out chronologically. This documentary draws you in. I watched all four episodes in one sitting. More than once I felt goosebumps at the depravity of a man who seemed so normal, yet was downright evil. I have seen many Netflix docs. This one is well worth a watch.
Droppin' Cash: Los Angeles (2018)
A tragic train wreck.
Steer clear of this. After 15 minutes of Iggy Azalea and her foul mouth and fake personna, I stopped the bleeding and bailed. I have never rated something a "1". Congrats.
QB1: Beyond the Lights (2017)
Truly Binge Worthy
I now understand what "binge worthy" means. Both seasons of QB1 have been just that. Each episode adds to the intensity. You start to feel like part of the community of each team. You hurt when they hurt. You cheer when they cheer. Well worth watching.
Sunderland 'Til I Die (2018)
Not A Soccer Fan. A Fan of This Doc
Simply put, this documentary connects you with the management, the players, and most importantly, the die hard fans and community of Sunderland. I grew up in an atmosphere filled with sports. I played. I coached. Passion is the name of the game. This doc is filled with it. You feel the pain. You feel the hurt. You feel the town yearning for success. Thank you Sunderland, for letting me feel your passion. A must watch!
Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski (2018)
Top Notch Documentary
A very thorough documentary about a man who lived a remarkable life. I did not know that Leonardo DiCaprio and his father were producers until the credits rolled. Szukalski was an artistic genius who was eccentric from a very young age. He was also controversial. A must watch.
Downsizing (2017)
Chau Saves This Movie
Chau saved this film with her emotional performance, otherwise it would have been mostly unwatchable. Too many twists. Too many turns. The plot was muddy and could have used some "downsizing".
Roma (2018)
Unlike any movie I have ever seen
Hard to put into words what this movie means to me. One thing is for sure, there is endless color in this black and white film. Please find a quiet place without distraction while viewing. The subtitles are important. Highly recommend.
Breath (2017)
Not What I Expected
The movie started with what felt like a coming of age sports movie. The first 45 minutes followed that storyline. This included impressive cinematography and character building. Then comes the sudden change. I was startled. The only way to make this work is with professional direction and capable actors. What is surprising is the fact that this was Simon Baker's directorial debut. The two young boy's are also in their first film roles. Samson Coulter, playing the role of Pikelet, is tremendous. His transformation from precocious teen, to young man dealing with adult themes is completely believable. This movie is a bit long at almost two hours, but the ending wraps everything together. There are controversial portions that won't play well with some audiences. For me, the mature themes are dealt with tastefully. This is a credit to Baker's direction and the acting strength of Coulter.
Second Act (2018)
Better than expected...
Lopez shows her acting prowess, and Hudgen's pairs well in the role of her daughter. The story has more strengths than weaknesses, but is bogged down by some head scratching plot twists and minor roles, especially the young boy who is a fan of cursing. Treat Williams is solid throughout. Worth a watch.
I Am a Killer (2018)
Eye Opening
Each episode delivers different levels of emotion. All are worth watching. Some will move you to tears. It's raw. It's real. It will stay with you.
