Thaen (2021)
An emotional and beautiful movie based on true events.
The movie begins with aerial shots of the Kurinjimalai showing nature in a beautiful way. A man and a woman living on a hilltop want to get married. Due to archaic traditions, the marriage is considered unsuitable. But, Velu and Poongodi marry each other and vow to care for each other forever. Things, however, turn out different, as Poongodi's health declines and Velu cannot get much medical attention on time.
The movie throws light on how poor people are ill treated and how bureaucracies/corrupt practices exist in the government offices. Several times, the movie mocks the government and how some practices fail to help the poor or needy.
Given the fact that the director wanted to illustrate a point, so the pace of the movie was bit slow.
The movie focuses primarily on contrasting nature with civilization. It's definitely worth watching once.
Kaun Banega Crorepati? (2000)
KBC - an excellent show only if you skip the fluff
KBC is one of the few Indian shows which not only entertains but also tests your knowledge. The show has much fanfare primarily because of the host - Amitabh Bachchan. His very down-to-earth personality and humbleness charms the viewers. Contestants play the quiz to win the prize money worth seven crores, but for them, it presents a lifetime opportunity to meet Amitabh Bachchan in person.
In recent seasons, however, the show displays many personal stories of the contestants, depicting that they belong to diverse backgrounds. Still, those stories exhibit a deliberate endeavor by the producers to boost the TRP ratings.
Interestingly, while the participants try to win the coveted prize worth crores, Amitabh Bachchan himself bags about 3.5 crores per episode.
Overall, the show is a good entertainer only if you skip the fluff and watch the main parts of the show directly.
De De Pyaar De (2019)
An entertaining Rom-Com movie!
The movie had a decent plot. A 50-year old NRI businessman (Ashish Mehera) and a young 26-year-old woman (Ayesha khurana) fall in love, and eventually want to marry after seeking approval of businessman's parents, who live in Manali. But there is more chaos and confusion involving Ashish's ex-wife (Manju Rao). Over the time, Ayesha and Manju fail to get along, and in the turn of the events the confusions get cleared.
In terms of story, the movie dealt with subjects such as mid-life crisis, pressure of a single-mother raising the kids alone. The 1st half of the movie was pretty well-paced with intermediate humor. The 2nd half started tad-slow but picked up the pace and touched upon some good comic moments involving Ishaan (Ashish's Son) and Ayesha. Ishika's (Ashish's daughter) character, however, was a bit irritating as she was frustrated with his father's appearance almost all of the time. Rakul Preet acted quite well, but the character she assumed had a superlative role. The movie ended quite well with a simple age-old message "When it comes to love, age is just a number"
All-in-all it's a one-time watch with family or friends.
