Land of Bad (2024)
Good movie. Needed a better military advisor
Good action, interesting cast. The Russell Crowe role was cast badly. No AF captain would ever be that old, that fat, that out of uniform, or with a beard if stateside unless they're an operator. Takes a bit away from the reality for those who served.
The tier one operators were good but there weren't enough for the mission they were on. Typical Hollywood limitations on the number of actors they would use. The rest isn't a bad interpretation of a small professional operating unit. They should have had silencers on their weapons to reduce the risk of having their locations identified. Just little stuff some would notice.
War of the Worlds: Annihilation (2021)
Too many errors
Soldiers, including a flag officer, with beards and way too long hair. The general has lieutenant bars on his lapels. Who was there military advisor, Bozo the clown? They all have different guns. Communications to the troops is awful. Shooting in a fog without regard to other soldiers. Remotes should have gone into the smoke. Military not listening to experienced specialists. Where is the connection to the White House during a National emergency? A trained soldier leaving his helmet behind for no reason. Sending in troops without any armored vehicles. And that's just in the first 20 minutes. Acting is not top notch either. I'll try to watch the rest.
Infinite (2021)
Interesting premise but has a fatal logic flaw
Spoiler alert. Not a bad film. A few too many cliches but also one major logic flaw in the antagonist's desire is to stop coming back as it's an awful experience for him. But he's also developed a gun that shoots a chip into your head that sucks out all your memories and soul, preventing you from being reincarnated. So, why doesn't he just use it on himself and end his own nightmare and leave the rest of humanity alone?
Timeless: The Miracle of Christmas Part I/II (2018)
They got the Band Back Together
This was really a two part episode wrapped up into a show finale movie. Overall, I really liked how they brought everyone back to continue where they left off. It's a great finale to a show that was canceled ahead of its time. Which is the problem for almost all SCI-Fi shows on the major networks. Timeless, had it been on the CW, SYFY, or any other cable network, would be considered a hit and would still be going. There are simply not enough sci-fi interested viewers to sustain shows on the major networks. I was truly hoping it would make the jump to another cable channel but I've not read anything on that. Anyone hear rumors of this?
Point of Entry (2007)
Will be on again
Movie will be on again at 7pm EST, on Lifetime. I didn't see it the first time it showed, but I can see the reviews were mixed, though Holly Marie Combs fans enjoyed seeing her back acting after about 18 months since her last acting job ended with Charmed. Soon after she had gave birth to her second son and obviously decided to take some much deserved time off. With any luck, this will just be the first of either a series of movies or that she may be planning or looking to get back into a TV series role. Holly has been missed by her fans and so this new movie is a refreshing relief that she hasn't given up on acting. Let's hope she can find roles worthy of her talents. She has mostly done projects about strong and difficult social issues to confront. It'll be interesting if she continues this trend. Her current movie, this one, is also about strong social issues including stalking, violence against women, and loyalty in and to a marriage. It'll be interesting if she does more or if she takes on a TV show role and what type of role that will be, dramatic or comedy.
The Lost Room (2006)
A well acted mini series with an interesting premise
The subculture of the objects created in The Lost Room was an interesting side effect of having so many people know about such an incredible secret. There are many unanswered questions, which I hope will be addressed in series. What was the "event" in May 1961 that set things in motion. No real hint is given what this may have been, either terrestrial or not.
The most fascinating thing I've found is how it is still bouncing around in my mind. You just find yourself thinking about all the what ifs and loose ends. Anyway, it was a wonderful show with a lot of twists and unexpected events.
