Damage (2012)
Love without other implications
Smith's short film has an immediate effect and an after effect. We are taken immediately by the "preciousness" of the image. Limpid, exquisite and slightly detached. The after effect is a whole other story. Burton's face comes to haunt you. His pain and his deep period of reflection has a powerful, contagious effect. Adam Burton creates a character that contains a doses of his D'Arcy of Pride and Prejudice and a pinch of his Adrian LeDuc of Apartment Zero but the rest is totally inedited. Love without other implications, because love is all there is and I wouldnt doubt it for a second. A marvellous effort.
Hacker: Trust No One (2021)
Lazy Lockdown Movie
Hacker, aka Hacker: Trust No One (2021) doesn't acquire much hacking at all. Here, we focus on desperate loner Danny Miles as he searches for his partner online. However once he meets Alyssa, things start to take a turn for the worst as she's held captive online and it becomes more of a ransom story. This must have been made during the covid outbreak so things are very limited here in this dramatic thriller. There's too much talking to the camera and very little decent sound quality. The technical aspects are shockingly appalling. Sam Mason-Bell doesnt do himself much justice as it just looks lazy and uninspiring.
Todd (2021)
A fake horror film
Todd not a cohesive movie by even the kindest stretch. Todd is not Drama, Mystery, Thriller, and it's certainly not a horror movie, despite the horror-movie-esque poster art. Todd is a master class in too many cooks and not a single workable idea. I would have rather seen 3 short character studies (with script doctoring and plot work). I didn't so here we are.
Todd (2021) is unrated but I would rate it PG-13 for swears, brief and pointless sexytimes, implied violence, and random pill taking. It's also a very painful 91 minutes, so I've done all I can. And after the movie pops off its "climactic" ending, the movie continues ANOTHER 15 MINUTES reflecting on how this maniac changed all of their lives for the better.
Leaper (2020)
Leaper review. The review
A great drama. This film would go out in places. Very well written and great character development. Leila Kotori does it again with another great performance.
