Yakhanyeongung (2022)
The writing, the directing, the acting - pure magic!
This is the first time in a long time that I haven't been able to stop thinking about a show!
I'm a huge fan of silent storytelling, and this show is full of it! So much of the storytelling and emotions are conveyed through subtle images and the actors' faces, rather than through words. The three leads are particularly good at this. There are tons of cool fight scenes, but the quiet, still moments are some of my absolute favorites.
I've seen plenty of great big budget shows with casts full of high profile actors, but sometimes shows like this are even better, in my opinion. It's the magic of really great writing, directing, and acting.
A heartbreaking and beautiful show. Absolutely brilliant.
After We Fell (2021)
Far better than the first two.
I wasn't expecting much from this movie as I really disliked what they did with the first two. One of the many reasons I thought I wouldn't like it was due to the continuity issues with several of the cast members being switched out throughout the films. With the first two films, I felt the leads had no chemistry, but they were quite a bit better in this one. The first two movies were full of scenes of them screaming at one another and it got old quickly. I highly enjoyed being given so many scenes of them speaking normally to each other and conversing more like adults. These scenes made their relationship seem more real (that's not to say that arguing doesn't happen in real relationships). I also have to mention that I love the new actors who play Landon and Kimberly! Chance Perdomo especially brought life to his character and I enjoyed every minute of his screen time. I also really enjoyed the music in this film. I'm hoping the next film is just as good, if not better.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
It was fine. The first two felt real while this one felt like a movie. Didn't leave me scared & I felt no connection to/sympathy for the victims.
This movie just didn't have the same charm. The first two focused heavily on the families and I felt such sympathy for them. This film however did not leave me desperately wanting the survivors to "win". I didn't care as much for them. The first two films left me feeling a bit nervous when I turned the lights off to go to bed. This film felt very much like a movie the whole time and left me with no such feeling. While I think this movie is the weakest out of the bunch, I think it would be okay as a stand alone film. A positive is that the acting is great and the chemistry between Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga is wonderful, as usual.
