Drink Masters (2022)
Visually beautiful but...
In terms of cinematography and visually pleasing elements, I was very entertained. The concept is exciting and unfamiliar which is what pulled me to the show to begin with.
Despite offering me a mindless, fun watch, I believe many, many things could have been better excited. As many other reviewers mentioned, there should have been more transparency regarding the way the judges marked the drinks.
Two, and this comes out very, very obviously to a non-American viewer, but there's a blatant sort of play on minorities, identity and marginalised groups. This is not strictly a bad thing, but when it comes to the marking, it becomes apparent that there's some agenda in the play. This is a competition. It should depend entirely on skills and concepts and very, very, VERY little on background.
I felt like the elimination process was not entirely fair. There were some really strong competitors unfairly knocked out in the early battles, and some who I was frankly shocked to see advance.
Lastly, for the finals, the least likely competitor won and I could not understand it. Some pointed out she played the race card, and perhaps that could hold some truth to it, but regardless of that, there was only one display that truly and clearly blew the judges away, and blew us the viewers away, so unique and creative, and somehow didn't win. I'm simply shocked, there could have only been this one winner.
Over all, entertaining show, but I sense some bias and the ending was far too abrupt for the build up.
Violet Evergarden (2018)
Authenic, heart-wrenching and very very beautiful.
What struck me most about this show is how we, much like Violet, keep wishing every episode that perhaps the major is alive. It's very heart-wrenching, when you think this exactly how Violet lives her life day by day. Hoping from the bottom of her heart that he's alive somewhere. To the last minute I kept wishing he'd just appear. And that's very much like loss and grief in the real world. We might understand that someone we love is gone, but we never truly expect it. This show is very authentic, you can't help but cry and grieve with those characters; with the little girl that lost her mother to illness; with the father who never got to watch his daughter grow; with Violet who lost the only man who ever cared about her.
Words are very powerful, they're able to bring closure. And when you write them down you're able to release all bent up emotions and grow and move on from there. The Auto Memory Dolls weaponised this. I think it's a very powerful message that an ex military moved from using guns to using words as a weapon.
Amazing show, hit me right in the heart and I would recommend this to anyone.
Forrest Gump (1994)
Great Film
A brilliant, inspiring film that speaks of courage, happiness, sorrow, love and loss. I liked the transition of events that took place in the film, the symbols and the ideologies. We are shown amazing character growth; it was portrayed beautifully. If you're looking for a movie that can make you laugh and cry, too, Forrest Gump is the one for you.
