Man on the Run (2023)
Huge amount of superfluous long scenes
The movie positions itself as a DocuDrama. DocuDramas have a general script of chronologically illustrating how the events progressed. Unfortunately, this movie kept enumerating countless examples of depraved and perverted behaviors of various celebrities.
It's ok to drive the point that celebrities were head over heal with Jho Low, but to keep coming back to this point over and over again is distracting from the main theme.
Worse yet, the movie is a disjoined set of events, hodgepodged to attempt to make a poor story telling.
The director needs to learn from other famous docudrama producers and directors to acquire the necessary knowledge to make such movies.
I gave it 2 stars because it does have some semblance of history, but not enough to capture my attention to the end. I found many 1MDB youtube documentaries much better made and information than this waste of time.
Takers (2010)
Wish I can reclaim my hour of watching
So the entire movie premise is based on robbing an armored trunk. This car is full of armed guards, safely protected inside a bullet and bomb proof trunk. So what should the guards do when there are bullets flying? Of course leave the protection of the trunk without vests armed with small pistols.
As if the movie up until this point hasn't been a total failure and disappointment, this specific scene just capped the absurdity.
The only thing that drew me to this movie were the cast. I like Matt Dillon, but I thought he was more selective of movie scripts. I just wish I can ask the movie makers to make up for my lost 1 hour. Pathetic movie.
The Northman (2022)
Script started well but degenerated towards the end
The four stars is mainly for the acting & special effects, certainly not for the script. The story in the beginning was good and sensible. Then when Amleth arrived at the village seeking revenge, the story quickly degenerated worse & worse especially towards the end. For instance, the last battle at the village depicts him as invincible, then somehow he freezes (WTF!) then taken prisoner instead of killed (double WTF).
The absurdity continues as he's not killed in captivity and escapes death. Then he comes back to kill his mother and her son, topping it off, Fjölnir challenges him to a dual by hells gate instead of killing him right there.
Pretty much, one absurd premise built on top of another.
Very disappointing since it somewhat started off well.
Vikings (2013)
Started good and had no where to go but way down
The first seasons was good. Not as good as Marco Polo or Last Kingdom but good enough to keep me watching. Afterward, it becomes very clear that the producers wanted to prolong the series so they forced the writers to put in a lot of fluff. That reached it's worst in Season 401 with completely tangential and useless scenes like: 1. the Wessex king kneeling before Chris begging for forgiveness but confessing his weaknesses 2. Ragner's sex scene with his Asian concubine in the hot tub 3. and on and on and on.
Very depressing when producers sacrifice substance for fluff.
